Chapter 18

Jack whistled happily as he showered. Today’s date was a huge success and he couldn’t be happier about it. He could feel Jenny opening up to him slowly and today’s date has brought them closer than anything else till that date. His heart danced with joy when he remembered their intimate moment on the car. Jenny was about to kiss him! Granted she did kiss him earlier that day in his office but at that moment she was doing it only for show! But at that time on the car when she was about to kiss him it held no ulterior motive, no game, no show, no nothing! She wanted to do it just out of her feelings for him which was getting difficult for her to hide anymore. He knew that it’s about time when she confesses her love for him!

Getting dressed he stepped into their bedroom only to find his beautiful wife sleeping peacefully on their bed. Gazing lovingly at her, he also got in the bed beside her and then gave her a brief kiss on the lips.

“Good night, princess.” He whispered softly in her ear and turned on his side to get some sleep as well.

But what he didn’t know was the fact that Jenny wasn’t really asleep. In fact, she was far from that. Her mind was too busy with the thoughts of the man lying beside her to let her sleep. Once again, her plan backfired on her but strangely, this time she wasn’t the least upset about it. In fact, the situation was quite the contrary, she felt extremely happy about everything. She liked being herself around him and she liked him being himself around her. Then she remembered how she almost kissed him on the car and blushed furiously. Seriously, what had gotten into her to act like that? What was she thinking? What he must be thinking about her now? Has she gone crazy? What other possible reason might cause her to act like that? Her heart tried to tell her something but as usual, she pushed it away and before these thoughts could hunt her anymore, she gave into her exhaustion and fall asleep. If Jenny wasn’t as stubborn as she was and didn’t let her pride to rule over her emotions then maybe that night she would have finally admitted the fact to herself, the fact what her heart already know, the fact that she had fallen deeply in love with her husband.

Jenny and Jack heard the mixed noise of music and people chattering as soon as they enter the garden of Laura’s new home where Boris’s birthday party were being held. Laura has indeed taken great care of everything and decorated the garden beautifully which really impressed both Jack and Jenny. Jenny’s eyes searched for Boris and Laura and soon spotting them, she started to walk toward them along with Jack.

“Happy birthday big bro!” she said to Boris while giving him a tight hug.

Boris gave her a wide smile and said “Thanks kiddo. I’ve been waiting for this hug and wish from you.”

Then Jack wished him while Jenny turned her attention to Laura who smiled at her but looked a bit…. maybe upset?

Jenny instantly went on alarm. “Excuse us.” She said to Jack and Boris and led Laura away to a quite place with fewer crowds.

“What’s wrong?” Jenny demanded as soon as they were out of everyone’s earshot.

“She’s here.” Laura complained getting straight to the point.

Jenny was confused. “Who’s here?”

“Miranda!”

“Miranda?”

Laura gave her a pointed look.

“Wait, you mean that Miranda? From high school?”

Laura nodded.

“What is she doing here?”

“She is here as the date of one of Boris’s friends whom I invited.”

“And you are upset because?”

“She’s constantly flirting with Boris! She didn’t even give a second glance at her own date the moment she discovered Boris. God Jenny, she hasn’t changed a bit from high school. Actually, she’s worse, flirting so shamelessly with a married man! Not that Boris’s actually giving her any attention but it still hurts watching someone flirt with your own husband on your own house in front of your own eyes.”

Jenny laughed seeing her pouting face. “Came on babes, cheer up. You and I both know that all her attempts are futile as Boris has only eyes for you. I am actually feeling sorry for Miranda. Poor girl, all her looks and antics are doing her absolutely no good.”

Laura laughed along with Jenny but soon got upset again. “Look she’s approaching him again! Urgh, why can’t she just leave him alone?”

Jenny turned to look at the direction where they had left Boris and Jack a while ago and sure enough, there stood Miranda chatting with Boris who seemingly introduced her to Jack. As soon as she saw Jack she almost jumped at him and Jenny saw red.

“Ouch! Looks like her target just changed!” Laura said confirming what she already saw.

“Let’s go,” she said coldly and started walking towards their husbands. As soon as they approached them Jenny sneaked her arms around through Jack’s possessively much to his surprise and pleasure.

Miranda saw it and narrowed her eyes but covered it with a fake smile. “Look who’s here? If it’s not the good old tomboy from school? My God Jenny, I never imagined that someday I’ll see you married and that too to such a handsome man! I thought you’d never marry!”

“Well sorry to disappoint you but you see it’s not every day you come across to a man like my husband. So I just had to change my mind.” She said with a fake smile intentionally stressing on the word ‘husband’ so that Miranda knew her place while Jack watched the whole interaction with amazement.

But Miranda wasn’t one to put off so easily. She placed her one hand on Jack’s arms which Jack shove away politely and said, “Well who can blame you? Your husband here is just too gorgeous! I would have married him too if I were in your place!”

“I bet you would.” Jenny replied with a cold voice again seeing red. “But too bad he already belongs to me. Excuse us now. I want to introduce my husband to some people over there. ” With that, she led Jack away from Miranda toward a small crowd holding his hand while Jack just followed her with an amused grin.

Just like that the party was ruined for Jenny. No matter how much she tried to keep Miranda away from Jack and no matter how much Jack himself tried to dissuade Miranda from her advances toward himself nothing apparently worked on her. She’d follow him everywhere, interfering his every conversation and try to cling into him continuously making Jenny burn. Jenny was on the verge of her anger now and anyone who knew her well would have known from just looking at her that she is about to burst. How dare that witch try to touch her husband like that!

She completely understood Laura’s feelings now and for once she was genuinely happy for what Laura did to her back in the high school. She deserved that. In fact she deserved far worse than getting chewing gum stuck all over her here. She wanted to do something far worse to her, something that will teach her a lesson for life and she won’t even dare to look at Jack ever again!

Finally, Jenny just couldn’t take it anymore and growled at Miranda as she leaned towards Jack seductively showing her cleavage which her indecently low cut dress could barely hide.

“For God’s sake Miranda! Get a man for yourself and leave my damn husband alone! Seriously how more shameless can you get and how more clearly can Jack act to get it through your thick skull to understand that he isn’t interested?”

Miranda’s mouth hung open with shock while she became red with embarrassment. Everyone stared at her with astonishment. While Jenny was always straightforward and had the habit of saying everything straight on the face of anyone no matter who the person was, she was never one to humiliate anyone publicly. Nor was she one who would create a scene like that over something. But at that moment she just didn’t care. She was pissed as hell and nothing mattered to her. Miranda opened her mouth to say something but Jenny hold up her hand in the air signaling her to not to speak.

“Just keep your hand to yourself.” She said with gritting teeth and left the party grabbing Jack’s arm leaving behind all the astonished guests.
