Chapter 16

“We're here.”

Jenny blinked. She took in her surroundings again and looked at Jack in confusion. “Here? You wanted to bring me here?”

Jack tensed. “Yeah. Why? Would you rather go somewhere else? Don’t you like it here?”

“No. It’s just…” She paused “I’m just surprised.” Then she shrugged. “Whatever. It doesn’t matter. I don’t care where you take me because the result will be always the same. No matter where the journey would be always an unpleasant one as long as you are there to accompany me. I’d better get over with it as soon as possible.” She said and got out of the car.

Jack followed her grinning after he removed his coat and tie and left them on the back seat of the car as they won’t fit with the environment of what he had in his mind for this date with Jenny while Jenny was watching his every movement with confusion in her eyes. He knew that though Jenny won’t admit it just now, she actually enjoys his company. Why else would she be coming on a date with him? Granted she only agreed to it because he proposed it to her in front of the office stuff while she was playing the role of a perfect wife but she had no need to actually go along with it when they were safely out of the office building. It’s not like he’d have forced her to go with him. She could have easily denied to go on that date with him after they left the office. And knowing Jenny that is exactly what she would have done if she hated his company as much as she claims. But the very fact that she didn’t do it proves the fact that she likes being with him no matter what she says. He knew she liked spending time with him, he knew that she was beginning to accept him as his husband and he knew that she was beginning to love him. In fact, he knew that somewhere deep in her heart she already did love him. Now all he has to do is make her realize it. Though he wasn’t so sure on how long it was going to take. Because, though his wife is very smart and intelligent, she is surprisingly slow and dense when it comes to the matter of her own heart. But that’s okay. He was a patient man. And for Jenny, he could wait a whole lifetime. He’ll keep trying no matter how much time it takes for her to realize her own feelings. But something in his heart tells him that she’d be realizing it soon. That today’s date would turn out as a great leap to their relationship towards the next level.

He smiled remembering Jenny’s surprise at his choice of place for their date. At first, he tensed because he thought that she didn’t like it. But later he realized that she was just surprised as she certainly didn’t expect him to take her there! And he could tell that she was excited over it as much as he was though she was trying her best not to show it. He knew that it came to her as a surprise, but it was one that definitely pleased her.

Yes, she was definitely surprised. Jenny thought as she entered the playground with Jack. In fact, the word “surprise” would hardly be sufficient to express her state when in reality she was utterly shocked. But not in a negative way that is. When Jack told her about the date she figured that he’d take her to some boring elite restaurant or somewhere of that sort but she didn’t imagine that he’d take her on a playground! She tried to act really nonchalant about the whole thing as she entered the playground with Jack but could barely contain the curiosity within herself! Seriously, can she ever understand that man? She really wanted to know what’s going on inside his head. Finally, she just couldn’t take it anymore and asked him “Seriously, why are we here? What’ll we do here?”

Jack grinned with genuine excitement and Jenny’s heart skipped a beat. His eyes were shining like a little kid and Jenny was entranced by it. “Isn’t it obvious? We’re on a playground so we’re going to play!” He replied with the same excitement that was shinning in his eyes.

Jenny was really startled now. She couldn’t believe her eyes! If anyone, who knew Jack saw him right then, then there’s a huge possibility of him having a heart attack! How could anyone help but be shocked when the man they always knew to be so rough and tough looked so childish, so innocent?

Jenny couldn’t help but smile softly at the angelic image in front of her. “But we’re not children Jack.” She spoke softly as if she was persuading a stubborn child set on getting his candy.

Jack grinned mischievously “Yeah? You think so? Then let’s become children for just this one day!” Then he suddenly kissed her and started running as he shouted: “Come on Tomboy, catch me if you can!”

Jenny just gave him an incredulous look and said “Seriously? What on earth gave you the idea that I’ll actually do that? What adult on their right mind would? This is absolutely crazy!”

Jack stopped running and narrowed his eyes at Jenny while placing his hands on his waists in a childish manner. Jenny almost broke into laughter again. This was so not like Jack, these childish behaviors.

“Well, last time I checked you were crazy. In fact, you and I both are crazy, that’s the reason I married you remember?” Jack finished with his gorgeous grin. But Jenny didn’t say anything nor did she move. She just stared at Jack.

“Come on Jen, don’t be so stubborn. This will be fun trust me.” Jack prompted again which brought him no result.

Jack released an exaggerated sigh and then suddenly his face lit up as if he has come across a brilliant idea! “Okay, then how about this? If you can catch me I will give you a kiss!”

Jenny just raised one brow at him.

“Well then, maybe if you can catch me then I’ll not give you a kiss?”

This time Jenny started laughing. Jack threw his arms in the air in exasperation and said, “Sometimes you are just too stubborn!” But soon his frustrated face was overcome by an evil grin and Jenny went on full alarm.

“So,” Jack said as he started walking towards Jenny with clear mischief in his eyes and his signature smirk while she automatically started walking backward, “It looks like you need some prompting Mrs. Cooper.”

Before his sentence was even finished, he was already at Jenny’s side snatching her cell phone from her hand and throwing it far away on the ground with full force where it broke into a thousand pieces while Jenny stood there dumb folded.

After a few seconds when Jenny regained consciousness she was fuming. This time she placed her hands on her waist and narrowed her eyes at Jack.

“Jack Cooper, you didn’t just do that!” She stated calmly while emphasizing on every single syllable.

“Yes, I did. What’ll you do now? Punish me?” Jack said mockingly. “Too bad. Because for that you’ll have to catch me first. And I bet you can't do it.” And he started running.

“You bet I can!” Jenny growled as she started running after him. This man was impossible! How dare he break her cell phone just like that! How dare he even touch her cell phone! He just can’t do everything as he pleases not with her anyway. This arrogant, conceited, self-centered man needs to be taught a lesson and she’ll do the teaching. And she will do it now!
