Chapter Thirteen
That was clearly unexpected
-
Emmi Parker’s Point of View
“Do we have some company?”
The reaction everyone displayed speaks that they were not counting on me noticing that there were rogues who are eyeing us. An Alpha’s presence is enough to make a stir in a neutral land, and having a woman by their side is usually seen as a weakness. While I am not properly aware of the responsibilities of being a Luna, I know that they were considered as a tool to take down the Alpha.
For Kaiden’s pack, I am the missing link. Everyone needed to grab something that will elicit a hole in Kaiden. All wanted to take down the very pack that my mate is handling—maybe for bragging rights or just another blot in their bucket list. I was sure that Mint had a hard time being alive while in her reign, knowing that a lot of wolves still wanted to kill Leighton.
Kaiden grinned, patting me in the head. “So you are aware. I am surprised, Angel.”
“I just realized it now, do not praise a bare minimum.” I scowled.
“As long as you are aware, it is good news to me.” The words do hold meaning, and I saw the way his smile lose color. The twins mentioned that Kaiden is not afraid of anything, but having me in his arms puts one list for him to fear: my death.
Slowly looking at Alpha Jasper, I came to notice something new. Despite the desolated smile printed on the Alpha’s face, it would seem like he really is calculative of everything too. I guess that is part of an Alpha’s perks. If I was not that well aware, I would have been surprised that something else was going on.
Fixing his seat, Kaiden let out a question. “Do you have any other handle that we needed to fix aside from this?”
“Nothing else, Alpha Kaiden.” The other Alpha replied, his expression relaxed.
“Good, because I believe that we do not have enough time.”
There was one thing I failed to take notice of: the words were a signal.
My lips let out a small scream as I was pulled down, followed by the table being kicked to serve as a barrier to hide my body. Not even having a full; grasp of what was happening, gunshots rang through the diner. The sound of the glass breaking made me freeze, my hands covering my mouth to die down any noise that could escape.
I saw that the warriors of our packs rose from their defensive stance and whip out a gun of their own, shooting through the other party without much of a restraint. Their expression was dead, as their body move swiftly to dodge all that was targeting them.
They have guns.
My mind made sense of the words, but I could not believe that I would be in this situation. It did make sense why they needed firearms. We are in a neutral land, and humans could be present. The last thing our kind needed was to expose our wolves to the curious species.
Even if they are the weakest link in existence, humans are used to the idea of hunting. We do not want to ruse any hunters in our area, either.
“Is this a friend of yours, Alpha Kaiden?” Alpha Jasper questioned as he squatted on my other side. My heart was hammering. As a bond to them being an ally, Alpha Jasper is set to protect me. Both men are not even bothered as everything around us circulated with gunshots and screams.
I focused to control my heart, followed by the need for my wolf to run away. Slowly pulling my mate’s hand, I whispered. “Human police could pick up this situation.”
“That’s not good. All man who holds power in this part of town f*****g suck.” Alpha Jasper snarled as if disgusted by the idea.
Kaiden seemed to agree. He was still focusing on what was going on around us. The second that the warriors had enough space to run after the perpetrators, he put no hesitation as he lifted me up from where I was. Quickly firing two shots to where the human servers were gathered, he let everyone face us. “Listen everyone.” He said, looking at all of the servers with such dangerous eyes. “The second that this woman had a single scratch in any part of her body, you will all pay for your lives.”
My eyes grew wide as I looked at him. “Kaiden!”
“Now, be good. Make sure you are safe.” He said, not even seemingly guilty of his words as he kissed my temple.
All of the humans in the room looked at me in horror as I sighed, clearly not liking the way that he was talking to people. I know that in the spur of the moment. He had said those things to make sure that these humans would not hurt me.
But I do not think that he would be kidding when he said that a single wound in my body would not result in his wolf lashing its anger at them.
My hands covered my mouth as the fires continue, it was followed by a loud snarl of a wolf and I already realized what was happening. Someone has shifted, probably one of the rogues who was set to kill us.
All the witnesses needed to be eliminated.
As the door whipped open, I had a small sight of what was happening outside. It did hide a lot even with the windows already shattered. Pushing aside the death of rogues, I saw that a girl had the chance to enter the coffeehouse with so much struggle. The human put a lot of strength just to push through the door, her hand clutching her bleeding stomach.
She was struggling. As I saw the pain that was she was going through, my body quivered in guilt. I oath to help people like this, and while I did promise to stay where I was… this was something I could not look away from. Looking around the area, I spot no danger gathering there.
“Miss.” My body paused, looking back to see the waitress that had always cried. “Y-you can’t go there. Your boyfriend will kill us.”
My finger pointed at the woman who was struggling. “I need to save that person.”
“But…”
I did not even listen to her words as I run to the table that was flipped over, giving me some shield as I run into the human and grabbed her in the process. There were some muffled grunts in her voice, obviously struggling with the pain. My hands touched her stomach and she groaned, pushing me back away from her. It was a natural reaction, so I was not even offended by how she reacted.
“I am a doctor, please let me save you.” My voice was firm as I pulled her arms off from me.
She struggled, as if not believing my words. I managed to grab hold of her, but she was adamant about fighting. The second her stomach flexes, I was sure that she had felt the pain. “People are shooting out there, lady!”
“I know. So please do not act so recklessly,” I said.
Kaiden will literally kill me if he saw me out in the safe zone, but I have to help this person. There was just a part of me that has to. My hands were careful to clean the wounds, making sure that there were no dirt specks before I bandaged the area. My hand was slowly pulled as I was dragged down. Confused, I was about to push her away when another rain of bullets managed to go through the broken windows.
“Are you not going to remove the bullet, lady?” The human grumbled, slowly pushing me away from her.
Pushing the small surprise, I did not manage to hide the frown at the words. “I can’t do that. I am not sure about the area that the bullet is in and the areas it had hit. If I pull that out without being careful, you can bleed to death.”
“You’re f*****g annoying as always. Just f*****g pull it out. It is annoying.”
Why does she speak as if she knows me?
“Emmi, I swear to f*****g-”
Surprised at the mention of my name, I pulled the cap out of her head as my eyes grew wide. I only needed to see the small mole on the side of her eye and I was made aware of who I was holding. A laugh escaped her lips, followed by a cringe of pain. My eyes could not believe the person struggling before me right now.
“Moyi?” I whispered, not really believing my eyes.
She grinned. “Stuck with an Alpha who has a lot of enemies on his plate now, are you?”
What is a royal knight doing in a place like this?
She is a lot of miles away from the palace. Could this problem that Alpha Jasper was talking about be so severe that the palace needed to know more?
Maybe Kaiden is really as powerful as I thought.
Maybe even more.
