Chapter Eight
The history behind every wall.
Emmi Parker’s Point of View
Being dragged into the house seemed surreal.
Remembering the horror inside this place, I couldn’t see everyone inside of here as the same monster written in my books. From what I remember, I used to have nightmares about this family. Not one person in the realm was not aware of just how scary they were. Leighton Wright is a royal persecutor, a dark knight. He had annihilated. a whole pack from before, all on his own. All their head were cut and hung on their very tree.
All mothers used to terrify their children by saying that this family will have your neck.
Even at a young age, I had nightmares hunted by these families, and here I was, being dragged by the kid who was part of the lineage. Usually, I always have some curiosity about why people have acted in a way that they did. Still, with the countless stories that I have around the Wright—a part of me was not sure how I could need more explanation.
They have killed packs without a second question asked.
I know the terror that this family has over all the Alpha of the world, one that even terrified my own. To see these girls dragging me around with a smile printed on their lips made me question my verses of reality.
Could it be possible that a household like this is the one we learn from school?
“Look at this one, then! You will be surprised!” Karissa proudly announced as she pushed the door open.
Frankly, they had dragged me to beautiful places, so I do not know if I will still be surprised at what they would show me. These girls seemed nothing but serene, and I do not think that anyone else had shown me anything other than kindness, so I really should not be one to talk about anything else until I have no explanation.
But like most, I should have known better than to judge them.
My mouth fell in nothing but awe as I was presented into the library, and when I said library, I did not mean an ordinary room filled with books. This room is enormous, with a great hall in the middle filled with a hallway of chairs and a full table. The bookshelves and the dark-coated stairs that went to the second floor were to the side. The place was shown with Victorian architectural designs. It has high ceilings that will let you see the beauty of the architecture. It even has some glass designs to insert into the shed of light.
This seemed like an actual library.
Why do they have it in their own home?
“She loves it!” Khloe jumped as she grinned. I admit that I gathered to have a terrible habit of cramming about everything that would interest me. “Brother had told me that you will love this place, seeing that you enjoyed reading for us.”
I nodded, smiling at them. “I do love reading. Thank you so much for showing me this.”
“We also have some library nook if you wanted to prefer anything comfortable. Usually, the warriors would use those chairs for some meetings. This usually holds a lot of people, but our brother wanted you to see this in its entirety.” Kamilla mumbled as she looked at me. Her features seemed to resemble something broken as she whispered. “From the way that you were reacting by dinner, have you finally realized what pack you’re currently in?”
I stilled at her words.
The fact that someone of her age noticed that I was acting strange only meant that everyone in the pack knew that I was walking on eggshells. Of course, I could understand why. From the second that I saw Kaiden, I was head over heels to the man. My lips will always be pointed to a smile when I see him, and now, I can’t even look at him in the eyes.
My lips did not know how to answer Kamilla. The child I saw yesterday had vanished as she looked at me as if he was older than me. A small ghost of a smile escaped her lips. “You did,” Kamilla whispered as if she needed confirmation of her thoughts. “Everyone reacts the same. I can not blame you. We were all just scared, maybe. Kaiden has always been excited to have his mate, so he wanted to take his time to introduce everyone.”
It did take me some time, and maybe the fact that Kaiden didn’t bother to introduce himself would have spiked my interest. Perhaps he thought that I knew, or at least hoped to have to build a better connection before I feared him.
My wolf suddenly felt sad, and I could understand why.
These people treated me so well, and I gave them my fearful look in response. Kaiden even gave me the privacy that I needed. He let me sleep in his room alone because he knew he wouldn’t have the control I needed.
He was giving me a lot of space and understanding—while I flinch at him without giving him an area to talk.
Karissa suddenly looked at me as if she realized something as she frowned. Her face seemed nothing but saddened to what she had discovered that I feel nothing but bad to be the cause of such face from her. “So that is what is bugging you. I thought we had done something wrong.”
“Why?” Khloe questioned, holding me close. The small child holding my legs seemed pure for someone who should be considered a monster. “Are you angry at us?”
My hands carefully put a distance between Khloe, surprising the three children. But before they could see it as a bad thing, I simply kneeled at a height that let me face Khloe without any hindrance. “No.” I shook my head. “I could never.”
The twins have excused themselves, probably looking for something to show me. It did take them a few minutes as they had arrived in the middle, placing a couple of books on the table. As Khloe and I walked towards them, my lips pursed into a small frown seeing that it was a history of their pack.
“We do have some dark history, one that I know you are very good are very fearful of.” Karissa smiled as she pushed it on me. “But it was for a reason. As much as my brother wanted to change things, there are things that could never be whipped to people’s memory.”
Kamilla agreed, seemingly wanting me to digest all of these. “All you hear is about our father. Leighton Wright does rule a large portion of his life with an iron fist with those he thinks to need it. As much as he does not condone the action now, he has his own history and reasons that you cannot disregard.”
That is right.
From the way I have seen this place, I do not see anyone in here acting so savagely. In fact, I could see that there are many children here than I was aware of. I do not know why I keep pushing the past from them.
But people are still scared of them.
All because of what they had done before.
“Mother slowly changed his ways.” Karissa smiled.
It was true that the story in our books only covered something to the horrors that they have done. It never said anything concerning their present one, but all were still scared to be opposed in this pack. I was unaware that my mate was now the Alpha of this pack.
“Can you tell me this story?” Khloe whispered as she pointed to the book that was presented to me. “It has daddy’s picture. Maybe it is a love story?”
I look at the twins, wanting to know if Khloe could learn about their history. However, instead of flinching and seeing the faults in the task, it seemed like they wanted to hear it too.
Are they serious?
“Please?” Khloe asked.
I smiled, nodding at her. “Sure, I guess I could do that.”
While there is still something that I needed to understand, I guess having some communication with them would not be wrong. After all, unlike me, who had learned their life solely on books, they live in this household.
Besides, no matter how many times the world had gone into chaos, that man is still my mate, and this will be my family. I will soon stand beside my mate, and I needed to know everything that he was going through.
Whatever happens, I needed to know things too.
