Chapter 9

~Geoff~ I focused all of my anger and put it into my first competition. I ended it quickly, but I didn’t feel that calm after. I really wanted to rip that ass’s head off, but I couldn’t do that without causing a real issue. The minute the match was called, I hopped out of the ring. I caused more damage than planned, but it couldn’t be helped. I grab my water and walk over to Hugo. “Good job. You probably should have pulled back some, but I guess.” “There’s no making you happy, is there?” I wink at Hugo and make my way over to the leaderboard. I’m curious to see who I will end up going against next. I guess it’s too much to hope that it’s that i***t who assaulted my mate. “I was able to get some information for you.” I pull Hugo off to the side, where few people were hanging out. Before my match, I told Hugo to try to find out who my mate was. She wouldn’t be hard to find due to her hair color. I wanted any bit of information that I could get. We end up in a clearing surrounded by thick trees. I lean against a thick trunk and cross my arms. I watch Hugo look around for a bit, growing in irritation. “Well?!” “Her name is Melanie.” I say the name a few times in my head, enjoying the heat that grows in my chest when I do. “And?” Hugo rubs the back of his head. “That’s kind of it.” I roll my eyes and resist the urge to pop Hugo upside his head. “When you said you had information for me, I thought it would be more than her name.” Hugo sighs. “I’m working on it. I wasn’t able to speak to any warriors that were with her. I did catch them talking and heard them call her Melanie. I do know that she won big, and she won fast. She seems to be a great warrior.” That made me smile. I’ve always been open to whoever my mate would be, but getting a warrior as a mate is a real upside. Being on my own made me have to grow up faster and become a lot tougher. I’ve seen a lot of things while living like a rogue. I had to learn how to defend myself, and I’ve even had to kill a few times. I don’t relish having to take a life, but I do what needs to be done to survive. I’m fully prepared to do whatever it takes to keep my pack safe, and it would be wonderful to have a mate that could fight alongside me. I wouldn’t have to worry about her being safe or getting hurt if she could care for herself. Bringing her into the pack will cause some issues with some people. My pack has a history of belittling women. They have always treated women as less than, and it’s one of the things that I vowed to change. They will try to disparage her, and there will be a lot of anger (on my part). We will just have to deal with that together. I will have my mate by my side and won’t let her be any less than she is. I push off the tree trunk and clap Hugo on the back. “I want more information on her, I mean it. I need to know anything I can about my mate before I approach her.” Hugo sighs. “I know, I know. I swear I will find out everything I can.” I nod and start walking back toward the crowd. “Let’s see who I will go against next. I really want to get my hands on that asshat that touched my mate.” Hugo laughs. “I’m not sure that’s a good idea. You may end up ending his life.” Hugo isn’t wrong. If I don’t try to end him, Thor certainly will try. If I get the opportunity to go against him, I will just have to pray to the Moon Goddess for strength. ~Brady~ That entire incident pissed me off. Who the hell did that fool think he was to interfere in my business? I was ready to push her a little to get what I know she wants to give me. That woman wants me, and that is obvious to anyone with eyes. If he had stayed out of it, she would have shown everyone how much she wants me. I need to find out who the hell he is, and let me know who he’s dealing with. I will not be pushed around by someone who’s clearly weaker than me. Maybe I’ll get lucky and meet him in the ring. I must admit that it really wouldn’t be enough if I did. I want to end him, and I know I can’t do that in this competition. I will just have to wait and see how things shake out. I told my people to keep an eye on my girl. They told me that she won her match and did so quickly. I guess her opponent took pity on her and let her progress to the next round. It’s a nice gesture, I guess. When I make her mine, I will make sure that she knows that her place will be at home. She won’t need to strain herself trying to fight others or defend anything. I’m more than capable of handling all that on my own. I will make sure she focuses on our family. The more I think about that red-tipped woman, the more I want to make her mine. He’s gorgeous and feisty. That feistiness will be a benefit in the bedroom. I like a little fight sometimes. Roughness is never anything to turn down, either. “Sir?” I’m broken out of my thoughts. I turn to my warrior and wait. “We’ve found the girl. Her name is Melanie, and she’s from the Summit Mountain pack.” Summit Mountain…… I’m sure I’ve never had any dealings with that pack, but there’s always a first time for everything. “Do you have anything else?” He shakes his head, and I sigh. “I want more information. Find out everything you can.” I pull my shirt over my head and jump into the ring. It’s my time to shine.
