~Geoff~
I plop on the soft grass, sweat dripping down my body. I fall on my back and throw my arm over my eyes. What a day! I’m so tired but also energized. I haven’t worked like that in a while, and I’ve missed it. I knew coming here would bring me back to my active days, the days I would fall out, tired.
I had two matches today, and they gave as good as they got. I knew the best of the best would be here today, and they didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to fight again tomorrow, but I’m sad about it. Tomorrow will be my last day of matches. I can’t risk being found out, so I will have to lose. At least I can enjoy today.
I take deep breaths to try to calm my body. I suck in some air, and a smile graces my face. “What’s up, Hugo? Please don’t tell me I have to handle some business right now. I don’t think I can move.”
“That’s a shame. I thought you might like to watch your mate compete. But if you’re too tired-” I don’t wait for Hugo to finish. I jump to my feet and run my town down my face. I look down at my bare chest and the droplets of sweat. I wipe myself down and throw the towel around my neck. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.
“Lead the way.” I follow Hugo to the competition rings. There are five rings set up, so there’s no issue with crowding. Not all competitions happen at the same time, allowing people to travel between rings easily. It also gives the hosts time to clean up the rings properly before the next competition. It’s a pretty smart setup.
Hugo stops at the seating in front of a ring. There is a big, burly man standing in the ring. He has his shirt off and a pair of basketball shorts on. He has hair all over his body and a long beard. He looks like he’s about 6’5, and he’s got to be bigger than me. I swear his muscles have muscles. I’m a bit nervous thinking about my mate going against this beast. Thor is starting to pace in my head.
A flash of red catches my eye. I see her walk up to the ring and step inside. Goddess, if she isn’t the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen, then I just…..DAMN! She’s a sexy 5’7 with a bit of a behind and ample breasts. Her body has just enough muscle, and I know she probably looks killer in a short dress or skirt. I can see that she has changed from earlier. She must have had some tears in her outfit. She’s now sporting a forest green sports bra and knee-length exercise shorts. They mold her thigh muscles and ass just so.
She stands in the ring and stretches her arms and legs. She does some warm-up lunges and jumps. “Go, Melanie! Get ‘em!”
“You got this Melanie!” I look at the other end of the seating area and see a man, woman, and child clapping and yelling for her. They must be close to her. I see a couple of guys watching with serious faces, but they nod to her. I’m going to guess they are fellow warriors.
A part of me wants to take her out of the ring so she doesn’t have to face this giant, but if she’s anything like a male warrior, that would only serve to piss her off. I need her to be compliant; well, at least let me get to know her. Thor is begging me to save her, but I put a block up. He will have to deal with this one because I’m not interfering.
The bell rings, and they get into a fighter’s stance. I can see Melanie sizing the man up, but she’s not making a move. She’s already showing her knowledge of fighting. Never be the first one to strike. You have to take your time and assess the situation and your opponent.
The man is pacing back and forth, growing in agitation. “Oh, come on, little girl! If you are too scared to fight, just say the word. I will gladly let you out of this.” Melanie doesn’t respond or sneer at him. Her face remains unreadable, and it seems to irritate her opponent even more.
The burly man growls and swipes at Melanie. She leans back and has to scurry out of the way when his missed hit made him stumble forward. The ropes keep him from falling but do nothing to ease his anger. The burly man flips around and charges at Melanie. She steps to the side, missing his assault, but throws her elbow into his back. He pushes forward and lands on his face. The burly man gets to his feet and leans back, roaring in angst. He turns to face Melanie, who’s in a fighting stance. He stalks toward Melanie, but she’s unmoving.
The guy may be big, but he’s pretty fast. He has Melanie off her feet in the blink of an eye, lifting her by her throat. Melanie doesn’t try to kick free or twist herself out of his grasp. She places her hands on his and puts her feet on his belly. She pushes off, making her bottom half swing backward. When her body comes forward again, she kicks him on the bottom of his chin. The kick is so forceful his head is thrown back. His hand loosens, and Melanie falls to her feet like a cat. She scrambles back and crouches. The man brings his head down, placing it in his hands.
He drops his hands and goes for Melanie again. This time she sweeps his feet when he gets close, and he falls on the mat with a thump. Melanie throws an elbow, falling on his body with her elbow in his chest. His body convulses, and he yelps. Melanie pulls his leg up to his head and places the weight of her body on it. Melanie misses his hit and maneuvers her body so that he has an arm by his head and her legs wrapped around his neck. She has his arm pulled tight, and he cries in agony. The man taps on the mat repeatedly, and the bell rings.
Melanie hops to her feet and holds her hand out to the man. He rolls onto this front and stands to his feet. He looks at Melanie and stumbles out of the ring, holding his shoulder. Her people are clapping and cheering. I stand up to walk closer to the ring. I want to get her while she’s here. I see that d**kwad from earlier walk up to the ring on the other side. “Good job, temptress, though he did go a bit easy on you.”
“F**k off!” Melanie climbs out of the ring. I stop just short of her people and watch her make her way over. Her scent clouds my mind, and I can feel my body tremble. Melanie is a few feet away from me, and I step forward.
“Mate.” Melanie looks at me, and I can feel a smile grow on my face. My mate is right in front of me, and I’m eager to make her mine.
“No.” She turns away from me and walks off with her people in tow. I can feel my heart shattering, and I don’t know how to fix it.
