Brooklyn’s off-putting attitude has me completely stressed out. When she finally got out of the bathroom, I was waiting to talk to her. She pushed past me and got into her bed without so much of a glance. If she’s mad at me, I’d rather her yell and scream at me than give me the silent treatment. Who the hell wants the silent treatment?!
I woke early this morning to do a slight warmup before she woke up. I figured I’d get her some of her favorite donuts, and then I’d be able to get to the bottom of what’s wrong with her. If that didn’t work, I didn’t know what I’d do.
I step into the elevator and push the button for my floor. I have the white box in my hand: enough chocolate-sprinkled donuts to cause a sugar high. I used to find sprinkles all over my car when I would treat Brooklyn before school.
Just before the elevator doors close, a man steps in, and the scent of sweat and dust fills the small cabin. I shut my eyes, not caring if the grimace becomes visible or not. I can’t believe this s**t! I so don’t want to deal with this asshole this early in the morning or at all. “Good morning, beautiful. What luck I have seeing you here right now.” I step to the opposite side of the elevator and push myself against the wall. If I could transport out of here, I’d do that just to stay away from him.
Brady settles across from me, leaning against the wall. He crosses his arms over his chest and looks me up and down. I have on super short shorts with a tight tank. It’s the perfect outfit for a warmup, but now I wish I had worn something else. I catch him licking his lips out of the corner of my eye. I roll my eyes and focus back forward. “You are a sexy woman. I’m sure you get that all the time, but I can honestly say that it’s not just something men are saying to you.” I really wish he would shut up. “Cat got your tongue?” I don’t respond and can’t tell if it angers him. “There’s no point denying this; I know you feel it. We should just explore those feelings in my room before the matches today.”
“The only thing I’m feeling is disgusted…you continue to talk to me unwanted.” Brady chuckles.
“You secretly love it, I know. Don’t worry, baby, you are my number one priority.” Before I could respond, the elevator dings and I see it’s my floor. I hold my head high and wait for the door to open. I see Jax looking at the elevator. When he sees me, he walks toward me. I take a step out of the elevator and feel a smack on my ass. No, this b***h didn’t! I toss the box and hope that Jax catches it. I turn back into the elevator and push my right fist into his arm. Brady grabs his arm, his face contorting in pain. I waste no time turning back to my right, making my left leg come up and kick him in the head.
Brady’s body is crumpled on the floor, and I stand over him, breathing heavily. “Don’t ever put your f**king hands on me again.” I turn and walk out of the elevator. I expected to see sprinkles everywhere, but Jax holds my white box. I guess he was closer than he looked, and that’s a good thing.
“Uh, do I want to know?” I shrug and hold my arms out for the box. Jax hands it to me and quickly looks into the elevator as the doors close.
“He hasn’t learned to keep his hands to himself, so I had to give him a quick refresher.” Jax watches me as I open our door and follows me inside. Brooklyn is sitting on her bed, facing the window. I set the box down on a small table and take a few deep breaths. “Good morning, Brooky! I got a surprise for you.”
Brooklyn doesn’t move or make a sound. I hear the door on my side and see Shanice creep in and lean against the doorway. I turn back to Brooklyn, determined to get through to her. I take a deep breath and move closer to her, gently touching her back. “Brooklyn, what’s wrong?” I was not prepared for what I saw next.
Brooklyn turns to me with puffy eyes and face. She has tear stains on her face, with tears falling from her eyes. Her bottom lip is quivering, and there’s a mix of anger and sadness in her eyes. Brooklyn flinches away from my touch, and that breaks my heart, along with her painful appearance. “Hhhh….how could you?” Goddess, what did I do?! “How could you leave me?”

My body shakes, making me feel a bit nauseous. I try to turn my head, but pain shoots through me, causing me to groan. The shaking continues, and I really think I’m going to puke. “Man, wake the f**k up!” I peel my eyes open and look around.
Two warriors from my pack are huddled around me, looking concerned. I open my eyes all the way and roll onto my back. The pain is otherworldly, but I bear it. I look around and realize I’m still in the elevator.
I slowly sit and rub my face. My face hurts, and my arm throbs. What the hell was in her hits?! I’m the top warrior in my pack, so I’ve trained with almost everyone. That being said, she must be possessed or something because the pain is still there. “What the f**k happened to you?”
I roll my eyes and slowly get to my feet. There are people waiting to get into the elevator. I nod at them and stumble out the opened doors. I stop at the wall across the way and lean on it, taking deep breaths.
I stand up straight and turn to my warriors. I’m pissed…..I’m pissed and impressed. I grin at the warriors, and they look at each other, confused. “That little minx is definitely going to be mine, boys. It’s only a matter of time.”
