Chapter 27

1130 Words
~Melanie~ I had a sleepless night and it sucked. I kept going over our conversation in my mind and it made me just as mad each time. He lied to me, he lied to his fated mate. What made him think that was the right thing to do? I didn’t even want to give into the mate bond and it looks like that thought wasn’t too far off base. I finally find my fated mate and he’s a liar. I know he’s been lurking around. I kept smelling his scent throughout the night, which also helped me be unable to sleep. I don’t know what he had hoped to accomplish, but it wasn’t going to happen; whatever it was. I drew the curtains as soon as the morning sun hit. I was determined to get some sleep, finally. Here I am, though, still wide awake and tired as hell. A knock on my door brings my mind to reality and my heartbeat picks up. I breathe in deeply and realize it isn’t him. “Come in.” Kehlani walks in with Kamila on her hip. “Mewni!” Her arms are open, waiting for me to take her. I reach out to Kamila and she jumps into my lap. She snuggles in and gets comfortable on my chest. “How’s hospital life?” “Boring as hell! I want to get out of here and go home.” Kehlani takes a seat next to my bed and smiles at me. “I have it on good authority that the doctor will be releasing you today, so there’s that.” I can’t help the smile that spreads across my face. I may actually get some sleep later. “I noticed that mate of yours sleeping in the waiting room. Well, not really sleeping since he can barely fit on the seats. What’s going on with that? How was your talk?” I focus on Kamila, running my hand over her little arm and her back. I’m pretty sure Kehlani knows what the situation is since they were talking for so long. I’d imagine that she’s going to back me up. “He’s a liar.” Kehlani’s sharp intake of breath causes me to look at her. “What? He lied to me.” “Yyyyyyes, but there was a reason why.” “You’re taking up for him?!” “I mean, maybe…….look Melanie, he may not have gone about things the best way, but he wasn’t being malicious or anything.” “You’d say that after everything I’ve gone through?!” “Don’t do that. Don’t try to lump him and that maniac in the same group. Malachi lied about a bond with you altogether. He used a witch to change his appearance and fake the bond so he could get revenge on you for killing his baby. Your mate just wanted to blow off a little steam before settling into his new role?” What the hell is she talking about? “He didn’t tell you why he lied?” I honestly can’t say if he did or didn’t. Once he told me his real name, everything else became white noise. I didn’t hear the rest of his speech being so focused on the lie. “I did, but I don’t think she heard a word I said. She was a bit too focused on that one aspect of everything.” My eyes rise up and land on the devil himself. I hate how good he looks, even with bags under his eyes and disheveled clothing. “Why are you here?” “You’re my mate and stuck here, so there’s nowhere else for me to be. Also, you didn’t give me a chance to talk to you more, so I’ve been waiting.” I shift Kamila to my side so she could lay down. She’s fallen asleep so I guess she’s been up with the sun. “There’s no reason for you to be here. You can go. I’m sure you have other things to do. You have a pack to run, don’t you?” Andrew sighs and steps into my room. “Please, just talk to me. We can work this out.” “I am talking to you. You lied to me and there really isn’t much more to say. I’ve gone through a lot and having a liar for a mate is something I really don’t need. You should get back to your pack.” I can see the pain in his eyes and my chest is throbbing. The effects of the mate bond suck, but I won’t give in. A phone dings and Andrew pulls his out of his pocket. “So you want me to go?” I nod my head. “Fine, I will go, but only because I need to get back and handle something. This isn’t over, Melanie. You’re my Goddess given mate and I plan to have you by my side. I don’t care how long it takes for you to see the light. I will be here waiting. You can come to Onyx anytime you like, it’s your home. Alpha Kehlani, it was a pleasure to meet you and thank you for your hospitality.” Andrew gives me one last look before turning and walking away. My arm starts to throb after Kehlani slaps the s**t out of it. “What the f**k is wrong with you, Melanie? Have you lost your damn mind?!” “I don’t know what you mean.” I look at the ceiling in an attempt to keep my tears in. “You know exactly what I mean. You don’t even want to be done with him because if you did, you would have rejected him. You let him walk out of here on some stupid s**t.” Kehlani doesn’t curse a lot, so I’m pretty sure I’ve really irritated her. “I know you went through hell, but that’s over now. You need to decide if you want to be truly happy or not. I love you Melanie and I want what’s best for you. Don’t be a fool for too long because no one will wait forever.” Kehlani picks Kamila up and walks out of the room, leaving me to my horrid thoughts. ~Andrew~ I’m barreling down the road, probably going way too fast. Each mile away from her eats at my heart and it hurts. If this wasn’t urgent, I’d make her listen to me no matter how long it took. The problem is that stupid piece of crap is on his way there and I need to get there first. I don’t have time for these games, but I plan to end it all before it even begins.
