1 Too alive
“I’m telling you, witches can’t do s**t. They are using their herbs and potions but don’t cast spells. You would need a whole coven to cast a good spell. I am more scared of swords and crossbows than some stupid magic.” One of the guards said, throwing his hands all around the place while talking. “Maybe the regular witches can’t but I heard stories of witches and warlocks who could snap people’s necks with a motion of their hand.” The other one argued. “Maybe hundreds of year ago, but I haven’t heard of an actual spell for years.” The first one threw back at him and the second one frowned. “Don’t you think some witches are more powerful than others and still could do something like that?” The first guard sighed. “I don’t know. Don’t ask me, ask her.” They both turned their heads to look at Aurora, who was silently sitting in the carriage the whole time. She rolled her eyes at the morons in front of her, rubbing her still bloody leg. The arrow was not stuck in her limb anymore but she couldn’t heal it because of the damn werdix. That plant was not something she wanted in her blood as it blocked all of her magic. The first guard looked at her expectantly, leaning closer to her. “Tell me, can some of you witches still do actual magic?” She sighed and tried to stretch her arms a bit. Her hands were restraint in front of her and her wrists were starting to hurt a lot. It was a long ride they were taking. “Some can, but there’s just a few of those.” She mumbled, not really interested in their discussion. She just wanted to sleep, but it was hard for her to fall asleep in front of the guards. She didn’t feel safe. “See? I told you!” the second one beamed in victory. The first one leaned closer to her and glared at her. “She is just talking s**t so we would be scared of her. I’ll believe it when I see it.” He narrowed his eyes and she scooted back a little. “I just can’t believe that a little b***h like her could do something like cursing people or bringing people back to life.” Aurora rolled her eyes, shifting in her place a bit. “You can’t bring people from the dead i***t, no matter how hard you try.” The guard glared at her, leaning forward, invading her personal space. She pressed her head back again the wood, not liking how he looked at her at all. “How about I slit your throat and let those dark witches try.” She looked at the second one for help. He looked like the reasonable one of these two. He grabbed his companion’s arm and made him sit back in his seat. “Darian, you know we can’t kill her, they want her alive.” The guard sighed and calmed down a bit, looking at her with a smirk on his lips. “You’re right. Besides, it would be a shame to f**k up that pretty face.” Aurora definitely didn’t like the look he gave her. Normally, she would just look at what he was thinking, so she would know what to expect, but the werdix in her veins made that a bit more complicated. That was the reason she liked living alone. It was hard to believe someone when you could just look closely and find out what they were really thinking. She tried summoning some of her powers to take a look at the guy. She didn’t really need much, just a little spark of magic. Her violet and blue eye brightened for a moment and she could see what he was thinking about and that image made her nauseous. This was exactly why she didn’t trust men. She scooted back and brought her knees to her chest, hugging herself. The guard saw the flash in her eyes and he panicked. “Hey, what are you doing!?” he asked, turning to the other one. “Give her some more of that s**t, now!” he ordered the second guard and he took out a small vial. He stood up in the carriage, his back bent because of the low roof. He kneeled next to her and grabbed her head to make her swallow another dose of the disgusting thing. She tried to push him off, but couldn’t and he forced a drop down her throat. That was enough to make her dizzy and she felt herself getting weaker again. This s**t was making her feel like her head wasn’t working right. “Was it really necessary?” he asked with a trace of remorse in his voice as he sat back on the opposite side. “I don’t know but she was up to something. She looked too alive for a while now anyway.” The first one replied, folding his arms on his chest. Aurora tried to stay awake, but she couldn’t. She was too exhausted and her eyes slowly closed. When she woke up, the carriage wasn’t moving anymore. She scanned her surroundings and there was only one guard with her. Fortunately, it was the nice one. She straightened in her seat, stretching her limbs a bit. “Where’s the other one?” she asked the guard and he scratched the back of his head. “We are close to the place of handover and he needed to piss, so we stopped for a bit….” He trailed off, looking at her with curiosity. “I’m sorry for him, he’s an idiot.” She nodded and smiled a bit at him. “If you don’t mind me asking,…” he said, making her raise an eyebrow at him. “What did you do to make the witches hunt you?” Aurora sighed, leaning her back against the wood. “I was born.” She said dryly, her eyes looking at nothing in particular. The guard wanted to ask some more but the door to the carriage was snatched open by the other guard. “Finally, “ he said, getting back to his seat. “I was holding it for a f*****g eternity.” He laughed and groaned, making himself comfortable next to the other guard, who made a disgusted face. Aurora rolled her eyes and tried to wiggle her arms a bit in her restraints. It was really uncomfortable. The guard looked at their faces and frowned. “Stop looking at me like that.” They both looked somewhere else and the carriage started to move again. Aurora couldn’t help the shaking of her hands when she thought about what would be waiting for her when the carriage stopped the next time.
