I reach for the nagging alarm clock and punch the snooze button with a groan.
Urgh!
Do I have to go to work today?
I groan and pull myself into a sitting position, supporting myself with the headboard. I feel some itching in my nose and reach for some tissues. I sneeze and blow it groaning the more.
I hope I’m not getting sick. I was rained on yesterday and the god, you who is an asshole made it worse.
My head aches. I run a hand on my face and reach for my phone. I have one hour to get ready. Maybe I can go back to sleep.
I slide on the bed and lie in a crouched position. I toss the phone on the nightstand and shut my eyes but before I can catch some sleep, Daniella storms into my room, with music blasting from her Bluetooth speaker.
“f**k you Daniella!” I curse and cover my ears but it doesn’t help because the music is so loud.
“Wake up you lazy bone. We will be late for work.” She slumps on my bed and shakes me with a grin.
“Remind me to look for my own apartment. You suck!” I glare at her and sit up again, shutting my eyes.
“Oh please! We know I’m a darling. You have been saying that for over a year now. I'm the best roommate ever.” She laughs and turns the music off.
“You are so annoying.” I sneeze making her give me a worried look.
“Are you getting sick?”
“I don’t know. My nose and throat feel itchy.” I sneeze again and snort.
“Oh honey. Let me get you the concoction. It will help.” Her concoctions are made of honey, ginger and lemon.
“Thanks Danny.” That’s what I call her sometimes.
“Get ready. Remember the event is today.”
“Yeah, I remember.” I say in a bored tone and get out of bed as she walks out.
I take a towel and walk into the bathroom lazily. I remove the hair tie and turn the faucet on. The warm water falls on me, and drips down my body making me feel at ease.
I’m falling sick. How am I supposed to catwalk on the runway with a cold? The good thing is that it’s a charity event to support the children's homes and not a competition but still?
I want to do that. Especially after White told me that we would meet there. How am I supposed to talk to a prince when I have a running nose?
Talk to him?
Oh yeah! I intend to do exactly that.
I turn off the faucet and dry myself. I walk back to the room and style my hair into a bun after blow-drying it. I pull a red gown out of the closet and put it on after doing some make-up. The rest will be done at work so I take my phone and car keys. I slip them into my purse and walk out.
Our apartment is not that big. It’s a two-bedroom but we are so okay with it. As long as we are comfortable, I don’t see the need for a mansion. This is okay.
Daniella is already dressed and has prepared my concoction when I walk into the kitchen.
“You know you amaze me.” I plop on a seat.
“Why?” she slides the mug towards me and I give her a grateful smile.
“When did you do all this?”
“My hands are magical darling.” She places her mug in the sink and looks at me. “Let’s go. You will take that in the car. I'm driving.” She offers and walks out, with me behind her. I take the shotgun and lean back on my seat, with the mug still in my hands.
“Ouch!” I sneeze.
“That’s a cold.
“Yeah, I don’t think I can walk down the runway.” I scrunch my nose and look outside the window.
“Oh sweetheart! And the way I had good news for you.”
“Which good news?”
“My crush will be there. He is the top guest.”
“Oh please! As if I’m interested.” I roll my eyes at her making her laugh.
“You should be. He is like a f*****g prince.”
“Let’s say I was, how do you know these things anyway.”
“Stalking the dude on i********: and f*******:. I bet you will die for him when you see that.”
“I bet my ass not. Your crushes have never been my crushes.”
“Meaning?” she fakes wounded.
“You overrate them.”
“I assure you this is not the case this time round. You will see.” She grins pulling into the parking lot.
“Okay. Won’t walk down the runway but will be in the crowd to see your man.” I give her a smirk.
“That’s my bitch.” We get out of the car and get into the building.
Emmy meets us with a glare but we ignore her and Daniella walks into the changing room as I walk down the corridor to Patterson’s office.
“Lexi!” he beams at me.
“Morning Mr. Patterson?”
“Morning dear. You look unwell. What’s happening?”
“I caught a cold. I don’t think I can walk down the hallway.”
“It’s okay Lexi. Your health first.” That’s why I love him.
“That’s as a result of being rained on yesterday?”
“Yeah.”
“Sorry about that.” He picks the phone and dials a number.
“Morning Ciara? Come to my office.” He hangs up and gives me an assuring smile. “Everything will be okay.”
Ciara knocks on the door and walks in.
“Morning Lexi?” she gives me a friendly smile. We are not that close. Emmy on the other hand, is like her best friend.
“Morning too.”
“You called for me sir?”
“Yes. Lexi is a bit under the weather. She won’t do the cat walking so get Emily to wear the dress she was supposed to be wearing. You know it’s our best.”
“Yes sir. I will.” She forces a smile at me. “Sorry about that Lexi.”
“Thanks Ciara.” I say and stand.
“Thank you sir.” I follow Ciara outside and we walk back to the room in an unnerving silence.
“You are wearing the dress she was supposed to wear Emmy. Daniella will wear your dress.”
“Why? Mr. Patterson realized I’m better?”
“Nope. Lexi is sick and can’t. We should get going. The event starts soon and we are the curtain raisers.” She addresses all the models in the room.
They all scramble to their feet and follow her outside.
“Coming?” Daniella asks.
“Nope. Will join you after some time.”
“Cool. Take these.” She throws me her car keys and follow the rest. I walk to the mirror and do a touch on my make-up. I undo my hair and style it into a ponytail. If I’m to talk to White, I need to look good.
I look at myself in the mirror and smile.
There! That’s my look.
I grab my purse and the car keys and walk out.
The hotel where the event is happening isn’t far from here so it doesn’t take long to get there. I park next to some Lamborghini and walk into the hotel. The event is in the hall, which is on the top floor, so I walk to the elevator and block the doors from closing.
“Wow! What a pleasant surprise!”
