I had thought my intuition was sending back to Tuukka for some reason, but as I made the turn onto the dead end road he lived on, I realized it must've been something else.
Because I could see Mandy Carlsen herself slamming shut Neil's front door and charging down his porch steps. I called out to her, but she didn't seem to hear me. I was at a full run, the jars in the bag bouncing on my hip clanging alarmingly together, but before I reached the driveway, she was in her car and backing out at high speed.
It was like she didn't even see me. She nearly clipped me as she slammed her car into drive and took off like a dragster, spraying me with snow and gravel before disappearing down the road towards the highway.
