Damon’s P.O.V.

I was sitting on the bleachers with my gang. It was our P.T. period but who cared about doing those exercises. My teachers were also scared of me. My father was an influential figure of the town and also one of the trustees of the school. So, the teachers also avoided having a conflict with me. I hated being called the shadow of my father. I was an underground fighter and also my gang dealt in so many other areas.

“Mike and his gang are messing with us intentionally. Last night, they caught Terrence and beat the s**t out of him. Fortunately, Peter and Ryker reached there and saved him. Terrence has a fractured leg and arm and also he was struck hard on the head also”, Jasper, my left hand told me and I hummed.

Mike had really wanted a beating. He was the basketball team captain of our school. His father was also one of the trustees of the school. He was a complete playboy who f**ked around. We both had this rivalry since middle school. The reason behind our rivalry was…. Only one person. He wanted to destroy her innocence and wanted to use her as his play toy. He knew that I had a crush on that girl and he was using her from time to time to threaten me. To hell with his threats, I would never allow him to get around her anytime.

“Why don’t you tell her?” Stefan asked me while drinking coke from his bottle. I sighed and then leaned back on the bleachers. I looked at the sky. There were clouds flying above my head. Birds were taking their flights here and there. It was so peaceful. Why can’t I have this peaceful life?

“You know, I can’t. It will put her life in danger. I don’t know what she feels about me but I know one thing”, I sat up again and looked at him. “She will be loyal to whoever enters in her life. She believes in love and I can’t give her the security that she needs”, Mike scowled at me and then looked away from me. Yeah… I had this crush on her since middle school when I took her bruised body in my embrace. She was so soft and fragile. The urge to protect her was bigger than any other thing. When she looked at me through her semiconscious eyes and passed me a smile, I lost my heart in her smile that very moment. She had an angelic smile.

“I am not saying you to express your feelings to her. Just propose to her and make her your girlfriend. It would protect her from so many other things and you know a thing”, he again insisted on me and I glared at him. He always got on my nerves on this issue. I knew that if she was in my protection, no one would dare to mess with her or would approach her. But there were so many ifs here that I didn’t want to put her in any danger.

“There is no need to drag her in this mess. If Mike approaches her, then I will think about what to do next. Till then, there is no need to make her more afraid of me”, I said to him and stood up from the spot. The next period was chemistry and I wanted to attend this period. She would also be there and it was the only time during our classes when I could see her for more than 1 minute. After our encounter last Monday, she was avoiding me like I was a ghost.

“Let’s go to our next class. Whatever we are doing, we still need to graduate from high school”, I said to everyone and they all groaned. No one wanted to study but we had to.

We all went towards the locker to get our books for the next class. As I crossed the corridor and moved towards the left, my whole body fumed in anger due to the scene that I was seeing right now. Shanaya had cornered Elena. Elena was not looking scared this time but I knew that she was hell scared of this time. Her body language was not supporting her expressions on her face right now.

I took a step forward when Paul stopped by grabbing my shoulder. I glared at him while looking back at him.

“We need to see this. Look at Mike there”, Paul signalled me towards a direction and I followed his gaze. I wanted to murder someone right now. Mike had this sinister smile on his face and he was looking at Elena with lust in his disgusting eyes. He had done something to provoke Shanaya against Elena.

“Don’t you f***ing give me your lame excuses, Elena”, Shanaya shouted at the top of her lung and I snapped my head towards her.

“I know your kind of girls very well. You are nothing but parasites who suck others blood to survive. Listen to me very carefully this time. Keep your filthy hand away from Damon. He is my boyfriend and he only belongs to me”, Shanaya’s words confused me completely. When did I say that I am her boyfriend? We had s*x a couple of times but that was it.

“I don’t need a man in my life, Shanaya. Keep your f***ing boyfriend to you. I am not interested in a playboy who f***ed around”, Elena snarled at Shanaya that made Shanaya widened her eyes in shock. Elena’s words shattered my heart in thousand of pieces. Whatever she was saying about me was true. Still, it was hurting like a hell.

“ha…. Ha… haa...ha…. ha…. What did you just say? You are not interested in him? Ha… ha.. ha… ha”, Shanaya was laughing like a crazy woman and I looked at my boys. They all shrugged their shoulders as none of us knew a thing about whatever was going there.

“Says who…. Who has a crush on him since primary school”, Shanaya blurted out in a loud voice and I heard gasped all over the corridor. Even I was shocked to hear her. Elena instantly went pale and I could see the fear on her face right now.

“You don’t need a man in your life, huh?? That’s what you said right now, right? Was this the reason your father abandoned you before your birth?” Shanaya taunted Elena and I could see tears in her eyes. I wanted to strangle Shanaya with my bare hands. Both Paul and Erik were holding me back by my shoulders. “Let her face this, King. She needs to learn how to stand up for her dignity. She had done this before, she will do this again”, Stefan whispered in my ears while holding my arm. I knew that he was right. Still, I wanted to save Elena from all this humiliation. She didn’t deserve this.

Shanaya was laughing like a maniac and there were whispers in the whole corridor. Elena was standing still on her spot while lowering her head.

“You are right. My father abandoned me before my birth. You are right…. He is nothing else but a sperm donor for me. You are right. I don’t need a man in my life because….”, Elena was saying everything while remaining in the same stance. She inhaled sharply and then looked straight into Shanaya’s eyes.

“I don’t need a man in my life, Shanaya, because I have the best mother who stood for me and gave me birth against all odds. I have the best mother on this earth who struggled hard to fulfil my all needs and keep me intact. (her voice was rising with every word and she started taking forwards steps towards Shanaya)… I don’t need a man in my life, Shanaya, because I have my mother by my side who gave up all her dreams and hopes and all happiness of her life just for my sake. So…. I don’t need a f**king man in my life just for some stupid hormone's games”, she literally roared at her last words that silenced the whole corridor at the same time. I could see the shock on Shanaya’s face. She was looking at Elena without blinking.

“You can keep all the men in the world to you. I don’t need one”, Elena’s words were like thunder that shook the whole corridor.

“Hey Shanaya…. Easy baby… you can’t insult our mate like this”, I shot daggers on Mike who was lurking towards Elena like a predator. Before he could complete his words, Elena shut him that very instant. “Did I ask for your help, Mike…. No???? Then mind your own f***ing business and leave me alone”, Elena said to him in a stern but a cold voice. My heart did the happy dance while seeing the expressions on Mike’s face right now. It seemed that someone had drained all the blood from his face.

Elena shot daggers on both Mike and Shanaya and then stormed out the corridor. There was dead silence in the whole corridor for a while. Then the final bell for the class rang and everyone came out of their stances.

“Whaoh… bro…. that was amazing”, Ryker chuckled this time as we hurriedly ran towards our lockers. I looked at him with a blank face but I knew that he was right. It was really something else. "Ryker... take my books too, I am going behind her", I suddenly changed my mind and asked Ryker. Before anyone could say anything, I ran towards the direction where I saw her retreating figure.
