CHAPTER 17: THE SECOND BORNE PRINCE MEET THE VAMPIRE KING   Queen Nerissa paced back and forth.   After what took place between her and the King, in a haste, she quickly ordered her servants to packed. In accords to her request, although the king is hereby unaware that she is leaving the Palace exactly that day. She just felt like she needed to. There’s this feeling inside of her urging her to meet with an old acquaintance who is inhabiting the Motherland Salem. It was an old friend, whom she had never seen for a very long time. It was of a woman. One of the renown witches who aid them in war to restore the peace they had been thriving for.   “Your majesty, the carriage is already waiting for you outside.” One of the Royal servants, an old wolf said the moment she made her presence known to the Queen.   She nodded her head.   “Very well.” Although it did not appease what she had inside, Nerrisa rushed.   But the servant stop her.   “Don’t you think it would be better if you let the King know, your majesty?” She suggested. “He might grew worried to know your sudden disappearance in the Kingdom, now that he had not been informed that you have set to travel to meet with an old acquaintance.”   But she is not worried even a bit about the aftermath of what she is going to pull.   “I will let him know after my arrival.” She reassured her.   “But your majesty—”   However, Nerissa was long gone now, leaving the servant to think how she could have explain that her lady was nowhere to be found. It was juts a relief that the king is still on his casual hunt alongside with the other monarch, and so she still have enough time to think some excuses she could have come up with or either way, offered her head as a compensation.   “Oh moon goddess, help me get through with it.” She whispered, but no other than to herself.   In the other hand, as the carriage began to move, Nerissa fell into an unfathomable thoughts. She recalls what she had discussed with her spouse.   If Tarik’s mate is a royal same with them, then it would be possible to have him married her and not reject her just like what the customs ordered the chosen Prince. She thought.   Nerissa haven’t had any slightest idea whether he meet her or not, but her guts were telling her he deed. And sudden request, favour he asked if he could turn back from the tradition of their Kingdom may not have been because he was hesitating, but because of the bond. Nerissa chew her lips. If he did, then she was in fact happy, and she would let it be ruined.   She just needed to see who she is, if her witch friend had allowed her to.   She just needed to take a look into the future even it means spending another year of life she have. To risk a year for the son she truly cares without hesitation is what a mother would do for their child. Same with how much she out forth to priority their people, Nerissa also wanted to never take away what Tarik happy.   She smiled at that thought.   “Do we really need to go there, your majesty?” The servant she brings asked.   She somewhat looks scared. Perhaps, because not many of the wolves, a few of them actually don’t fancy witches as often they could become mischievous, mischief driven to made fun of some, but they were actually good ally. The service they provide they had not taken for granted, same with the elves who inhabit the mountains and deepest of the forest. They live side by side with peace, and they hunted the rogues who destroyed it.   Nerissa whipped her head across to look at Lily. She was a young wolf. A beautiful maiden who had found her peace towards the mate, who is fortunate to have a kind she-wolf like her. Lily’s mage is a warrior in the Palace who had been in service with loyalty for how long Nerissa could remember.   “I needed to, Lily.” She smiled softly at her.   Lily was the only one who knew what would be her business in Salem. She is the one who had been by her side, seeing through—peering into what lies ahead, tomorrow that could prevent catastrophic events in exchange of life. A soul for wishes. A cost for what had been granted.   “But your majesty, she will ask for another year—” She looks concern.   Lily had a frown deep set on her forehead.   “You know as we hope for some things, we should of give as well in return what we can. To take something means an offering.” She explained briefly to her. “The world don’t work fair, same with what we wanted. If we ask to have food, we pay for it. If we ask to be part of a pack or a kingdom, we serve our loyalty to them, remember that, Lily.”   Heed, the latter listen before she heave a deep sigh, as if she could comprehend what the Queen was trying to make her understand, but what she couldn’t get was the sacrifice she tends to offer without the king knowing that their victory during the war, the triumph they had feasted upon had a much greater price than they least expect to.   It was the Queen, who foresee it.   She offer something bigger unbeknownst to most of all the one who join to fight for the kingdom, and it was Lily, she was the only one who knew all of it.   She was torn, but if it is her wishes, Lily lowered her head to express her respect.   “If that is how you viewed it, I’ll understand what you are trying to make me, although it cost me sadness.”   The Queen softly laughs. Long before she reached out, and gently brushed her hair.   “Soon enough, you will.” She added with meaning.   On the other hand, at the Reinsworth Kingdom, where vampires ruled, Devon had a much bigger problem than what she thought.   She was nervous. The feeling was beyond how can she better describe it. It was more than the loud thump she had been accustomed to. How ironic that it seems like she often had been put into a predicament she had not been expecting, least to say some discoveries that made Devon whether to wished it haven’t happen, nor took place.   Tarik is here.   It made her insides to gone wild. Her wolf howled with joy, which Devon quickly castigated. How can she felt enthusiastic for his presence, when they are torn? She haven’t told Zachary that he is not the only one whom she had been paired with, but as well as towards the man whom he is going to meet.   She gnawed her bottom lips.     “What to do...” After he disappeared behind those doors, Devon was left alone.   It felt surreal. To hope that everything was juts a dream she was tempted, but she knew it would never be a dream. A vivid image of the chaos it would brought is what made her insides to churned.   But better, how can she explain, when even she doesn’t have any answer to her own questions?   She messed up her hair.     “Oh god, this is literally driving me crazy!” And it was.   All she wanted before was a mate. To feel his embrace, the only person who could have accepted her, and shared the pain she mourned before. It was her wishes and what she was looking forward for. Because they say a mate repelled your worries, every bit of burdens, but...on her situation, why does they are the one who is making her worried more?   Never had she imagined to be entrapped at such thing.   Panic seized her. What made it worst was the sudden call coming from the window, which made her heartbeat picked up a quick pace.   “Devon!”   She jumped on her feet. The loud thump she could hear, which Devon could have sworn relished on her tongue.   Her head whipped to where it was coming from, only to find that the voice belongs to Helena.   Her eyes instantly widened.   “H—how did you manage to come up there.” She was shock.   As far as she can recall, they are on the 6th floor, the bedroom given to her or have she had not been informed that vampires can...fly?   “Silly you.” Helena laughs at her reaction. “Had you forgotten that I am a seer?”   “I did not?” Devon frowns.   “Well, technically it should be obvious, but since you are new—” Helena spread her arms wide.   “Oh my god! Are you not worried that you might fell? “ Devon couldn’t help herself but exclaimed beforehand.   “I am immortal, unless I was stake at my chest, and as you know, I have some witch blood on me, Devon.” Helena grins.   “Still!” It didn’t surprised her or was it because she was busy worrying about her well-being. Or it fell behind, because she was filled with her own things she should be worried about?   “Do worry I won’t die!” Helena reassured her. “But is something bothering you? I noticed that you somehow looks trouble, so I am kind of unsure whether to call you or not.” She explained.   That made her suddenly stop. Hunched shoulders and the far away look that had not escape Helena’s gaze.   “Well?” The latter asked.   Devon looks away.   “It’s nothing.” She lied through her teeth.   “I might be able to help you know.” Helena suggested. “You can tell, but if you don’t want to share it yet, I’ll fully respect it, Devon.”   Their eyes meet. And Devon could feel how genuine, and sincere Helena was. But doubts clouded her mind. As of now, she haven’t shared it to anyone or to anybody, except for Jasper only if soon waken up. The though of him saddens her, so Devon quickly shrugged off her head.   “Thank you.” She smiled at Helena.   “But I can guess.” Helena flew all the way and inched closer at her face. “Are you worried because you are mated with our King?”   That caught her off guard.   “Well...” She trailed of.   “Because if you are, there is nothing you should be worried of.” She sounded assuring. “Our King actually waited for you, you know, but that include us.”     “Us?” Devon blinked her eyes.   Helena nodded her head.   “Yes, us, the whole Kingdom had waited for you, so there is nothing to worry whether you are befitting to be a Queen or not or what would happen if you made some mistakes around in the Kingdom.” She continued. “There is nothing to worry. We might have been the bad guys on each folklore and myth, but we are not savages, we are also like you, wolves.”   What she said touched her heart. It penetrated her core in a good way, and she had never felt so consoled. But what made her worried was that question she could t even speak of....How can she tell Helena that what troubles her were beyond something she couldn’t get off her hear nor she would be able to guess?   “I will remember that.” Devon this time look to be at ease.   The frown diminished. The fear she had retreated back as she composed herself.   “But can I ask?” She bit her lips, but she daren’t show anything to Helena although she looks as if somebody whom Devon could trust.   “What it is?” Helena sounded intrigued.   Devin gulps before she can continue to her question.   “Had you heard about somebody—”She cleared her throat. “—who have two mates?”   “Two mates? That was absurd!” Helena shook her head. “It never happen heed before, because if it does, the means the prophecy we see before—” She stop midway. Her eyes widened as if she spouted something she isn’t supposed to.   “A prophecy?” The made Devon curious.   But the latter only shook her head in a vigorous manner.   “N—nothing!” She looks pale.   “But you said—”   Helena cut her off.   “I—I quite forgotten! I still have some things I need to do, so have a great day, Devon!”     “Wait!” But Helena was long gone now before she could ask many questions.   In haste, she didn’t turned her back, rushing to leave, but what she didn’t about was what she left for Devon to fumble.   A prophecy about the two mates she asked.   @cycy
