REBIRTH
Bai Lang couldn't believe her eyes. As she looked into the mirror, a youthful and delicate face gazed back at her. It was as if she had been transported into someone else's body. The reflection showed a young girl on the cusp of puberty, just ten years old.
From the faint memories that lingered in the girl's mind, Bai Lang pieced together that she was a neglected concubine's daughter, never considered particularly interesting. Bai Lang stared at the beautiful young face in the mirror, a slow and enigmatic smile forming on her lips, an expression that seemed out of place for both her face and her age.
Bai Lang gently squeezed the softness of her arms, legs, thighs, and the barely budding breasts. It was a reminder that she had been blessed with a body far different from her ailing, bedridden older self. She couldn't help but feel a mix of disbelief and relief, grateful to have escaped from that dreadful place.
"Third Miss, I am entering the room now."
the servant girl announced as she entered. Bai Lang moved away from the full-length mirror and approached the table and chair at the center of the room. The young servant girl appeared to be between the ages of fifteen and eighteen, with features that indicated she was not yet fully grown into womanhood.
The servant girl was relieved to see Bai Lang awake. She had been worried that the fever might have taken a toll on the young miss, but she was glad to see her up and about.
"Master will be pleased to hear that the Third Miss is awake," the servant said. "Shall I inform the Third Concubine?"
Bai Lang dismissed the idea, saying there's no point in thinking that the third concubine would be concerned about her daughter's well-being. It had been nearly a whole day since Bai Lang inhabited this body, and apart from the servant, no one else had come to see her. Reflecting on her past life, she pondered the slim chances of her mother being alive. Being the only daughter, she had not received her father's love and was treated as if she were just another concubine's child.
And She had now transformed into a concubine by birth, her very existence reduced to that of a helpless fly, easily crushed and manipulated by those around her.
"Please inform my father of my recuperation and convey my regrets for not being able to greet him today. My body still requires a few more days to fully recover," she requested.
The young servant respectfully bowed and replied, "I will deliver your message to our master."
As she departed, the young servant couldn't help but cast a puzzled glance back at Bai Lang. Having served the Third Miss for a considerable amount of time, she couldn't recall her ever being so articulate and composed. There was definitely something different about her.
"Is something wrong?"
Startled by Bai Lang's sudden question, the young servant was taken aback. She hadn't even realized she had stopped walking and was still fixated on Bai Lang.
"There's nothing amiss, third miss. Please pardon this humble servant."
Observing the servant, Bai Lang waved her hand in a dismissing motion, observing as the servant girl hurriedly retreated. Throughout the interaction, Bai Lang closely observed the servant's facial expressions and couldn't help but notice her transparency in displaying her emotions. This particular servant was definitely someone worth keeping an eye on.
Bai Ling needed a few days to adapt to her new existence, embracing a different physical form, a new way of life, and unfamiliar surroundings. During this transitional period, she would often approach the young servant, known as Lou Meng, to inquire about the Fu. However, each time she posed a question, it would elicit a wary and suspicious glance from her.
In those solitary days, Bai Ling gradually absorbed knowledge about the Fu she now called home. She discovered that she resided in the Zhu kingdom within the larger Chennai Empire that consisted of three prominent kingdoms, alongside numerous minority counties. One of the major kingdoms, Ka'an, stretches across the entirety of the northern continent and boasts a significant population of men. However, despite its bold ambitions, Ka'an has been restrained from declaring war due to the influence of Horun. Horun, nearly as vast as Ka'an in size, is renowned for its production of steel and iron weaponry.
Interestingly, Horun maintains a close alliance with Zhu, the kingdom where Bai Ling currently resides. Bai Ling closes the book she holds in her hand and makes her way towards the door that leads to the front room. In the shared courtyard, Bai Ling's mother, the third concubine, occupies a space, although Bai Ling has not encountered her since her rebirth.
Bai Lang was on the verge of opening the door when she caught the faint murmur of voices. Despite their low volume, Bai Lang was able to discern the identities of the speakers and the topic of their conversation.
"It seems that the third miss has undergone a transformation. Her behavior has been far from her usual self. I suspect she is under some kind of possession," Lou Meng voiced her concern.
Another person, likely a maid, shot back at Lou Meng with a sharp retort. "That's enough! Do you even realize the implications of what you're saying? It's you, and not the third miss, who is possessed. Do you comprehend the consequences of uttering such absurdities?"
Bai Lang was intrigued by the servant's bold defense of her and wanted to catch a glimpse of the servant.
"It's undeniable. She's completely different from the young miss I've known," the servants wanted to convey to young yatou that the third miss had undergone a significant change.
"I will report this to the third concubine," the yatou declared. Shortly after, a commotion could be heard, and Bai Lang imagined that the other maids were attempting to prevent the young yatou from leaving. In that moment, a flicker of determination flashed across Bai Lang's eyes as she forcefully pushed the door, causing it to swing open with a loud bang, startling the three in the midst of their scuffle.
