I trudged up the front porch steps of Vinny’s house and walked in without knocking. I expected to see him in the living room with Emmy but was surprised to see that it was completely empty. The television was on, playing one of Emmy’s favorite cartoons. I made my way to the kitchen, hoping to find them there but the room was also empty. But then, I found the back-sliding door slightly ajar. It wasn’t until I stepped up to the glass doors that I saw Vince and Emmy outside. She was sitting on the swing while Vince gently pushed her back and forth, an enormous smile on her face. I felt my own lips twitch up into a smile at the sight of them. I opened the door further to take a step outside. Emmy giggled as Vince pushed her higher than before. Her giggles continued to echo through the backya
