He pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over his head concealing as much of his face as he possibly could before stepping out of the alley. A thick stench of smoke hung in the air from the few people that were loitering around. Cautiously, he glanced up and down the street making sure no one was following him. The past week had been exhausting with his wild goose chase that lead to nothing but a dead end.  Before he knew it, he was standing in front of his mother’s door, fist raised in the air. But he didn’t knock right away. A small voice in the back of his head told him that maybe coming here wasn’t the best idea. He pushed back the doubt and knocked anyways.  The faintest bit of rustling sounded from behind the door as he waited. Until, finally, the door swung open. “Erik,” she breathe
