He gave a little laugh before he added,
“All the same you are certainly used to them.”
“I am indeed,” he replied, “and I was looking forward to being in my own house.”
“Of course you were,” Major Lawson replied, “but I cannot stress too strongly how dangerous it would be for you to go there alone. I am sure Miss Charlton is right in thinking that the Baker gang are only waiting for your return.”
“Very well,” the Earl agreed reluctantly, “I must do as you propose.”
“What you and I will do, my Lord,” Major Lawson said, “is to work out the best plan of attack, which means, I think, approaching the wood simultaneously from every angle so that there is no chance of any of them being able to escape.”
“If it comes as a surprise, it will, I hope, prevent a lot of bloodshed,” the Earl comment
