Chapter 2
The storm raged for almost three days and left the entire house tense, waiting. Jason, in a stroke of genius, worked his brothers hard, cleaning the entire house spotless from top to bottom. If anyone had bothered to question him about it, he would’ve defended himself with the answer that he was trying to stave off a mutiny.
With the way his brothers kept side eying him, Jason didn’t think he would be exaggerating.
Danny especially would get fits of pique, attempting to slink by Jason’s notice and wander into Jason’s room to see if he could rouse their unplanned guest. Mostly, he thought it was because Danny was the most skeptical of the family and the stranger was the proof Danny had been looking for, one way or another.
Adam was the least trouble, which surprised the hell out of him. He would just smile when debate broke out between them, theories flying around the living room or kitchen, and was stalwart in his refusal to bow to the possibility that the being could be anything other than an angel.
The wild card was Levi. He was happy to argue the possibilities all day and night long if no one stopped him, but kept his true opinion to himself.
For his own part, Jason did his best to keep their hands and minds too busy to cause trouble and took care of their stranger. Difficult attraction aside, Jason developed a routine. He checked for a pulse every morning as soon as he woke up and then he would painstakingly feed water to the being, slowly rubbing his throat to force him to swallow. Somehow it felt wrong to enjoy caring for the guy, but Jason shook the unease off. After, he would go about housework, stopping to peek in his room whenever he thought about the stranger. Night would bring him back, giving more water and dropping exhausted to his nest of blankets on the floor.
More dreams that he couldn’t remember as well. Only that voice following him to wakefulness the next day.
