Piano

She ruined everything like she always does. I am not staying here tonight. I don't care if I have to sleep outside. I can't be here in the same house as her any longer.
I grab my purse and crawl out my window. I have snuck out many times like this before. This time, I don’t necessarily care if I get caught. I am 18, and she can't do anything about it.
I walk down the street to the park. It is getting slightly dark now, making it feel kind of spooky. Thankfully, there aren't many people out. I just can't stop crying. I want to see Ross. I pull my phone out and try to make the decision to call him. My voice is going to sound bad. I clear my throat and dail his number. He picks up on the second ring.
"Princess, what is going on?"
"Can you come pick me up?" S*** my voice cracked.
"Is everything okay?"
"No!" I start to cry.
"What happened?"
"I got into it with mom. I am at the park. please don’t tell her."
Are you at the park down the street?"
"Yes."
"Don’t go anywhere. I will be there in five minutes, princess. "
"Thank you, Daddy."
We hang up, and I take a seat on a bench.
Five minutes feels like forever, but sure enough, his car pulls up to me. He gets out and comes over to me.
I try to straighten myself up, but I must still look like a mess.
"Princess, your face looks swollen." I start crying again, and he pulls me into a hug.
"Did she do this to you?"
I shake my head, yes.
"I should have a word with her."
"Please don't! she is drunk, and it will only make things worse. "
"Has she done this to you before?"
"Sort of but not like this. She has never hit me before. "
His body feels rigid like he is ready for a fight, but I keep holding him, keeping him from going off.
"I am taking you home from the night."
"I snuck out. Please don’t let mom know where I am."
"Trust me, I am not saying a word to that woman. I will lose it if I do any time soon."
He opens his car door for me, and I get in. The car ride was quite beside some sobs that escaped from me. When we pull up to his house, I can't believe my eyes. It really is a mansion. There are huge gates we have to go through and security outside. The place is so big and classy looking.
"You live here?"
"Yup, this is my home."
He parks his car in a garage that's attached to the house. There are even more expensive cars in here. One of them is a gorgeous blue color.
He leads me through a door that is connecting to a large kitchen.
"Let me get you some ice for your face."
"Thank you for taking me in."
"You are always welcome here." He says, handing me a cold compress.
"This place is incredible. I couldn't imagine living in such a perfect home."
"I hope one day you do."
My heart starts up. I feel like I am having real feelings for him. He has been there for me and is fighting for my dream. Is this really just a crush?
"Can I have a tour?"
"Sure, let’s go."
We walk out of the kitchen, and we are in a massive dining room. It could easily sit 14 people.
"That chandelier is gorgeous!"
"I picked that out myself. "
"You have great taste."
"Your mom wants to change just about everything. "
"Don’t you dare let her."
"I won't. At this point, she won't be living here anyway."
We walk into the next room, and it's a huge hallway area with lots of doors and a double staircase. There is a grand piano in the middle of the room.
"A piano! Do you play?"
"I know a few songs." He says.
I sit down and start playing 'All of me' by John Legend.
Before I know it, Ross is sitting next to me playing along.
My heart speeds up as we go. The hair on my arms is on edge, and I have to remember to breathe.
He looks at me the way he did when I was playing the violin. He leans in and kisses me. We never stop playing while we kiss. It is by far the best kiss I ever had. When he pulled away, I realized that I must be blushing. We continue the song until I hear something behind us.
"How sweet you two are making music together. " I stop completely and about jump out of my skin.
