Emails

809 Words
I wake up the next morning in a panic. I can not be late! I take a fast shower, not touching my hair because there is no time. I get out and lotion up. Then I got dressed in the outfit I picked out. It's a pinstripe skirt with a navy blouse and navy heels. I put my hair up in a nice, clean, high pony. I decided to use some makeup today. I feel like a real adult right now. When I look in the mirror, I look like I have it together. When I leave my room, I find mom is still sleeping. It was silly of me to think she would wish me luck on my first day. I try to eat a piece of toast while I wait for my ride. I am just too nervous. I see Ross's car pull up, and I throw my toast in the trash and open the door. He gets out of the car, which I didn't expect. "Ross, I am ready to go." "I see that. Where's your mom?" "Still sleeping. " "Well, I want to get a picture of you on your first day. Come stand by the car." He makes me smile. At least someone is excited for me. I stand by the car, and he takes a couple of pictures of me using his phone. "Alright, let's get going." I take deep breaths on the way there. I am so nervous. What if mom is right and I ruin everything? "Sweetheart, it will be fine. You are with me. Nothing bad can happen." "I just don't want to mess up and hurt you or your company." "You won't trust me." We pull up to the building, and my heart keeps beating out of my chest. Ross helps me out of the car, and I am grateful. Having heels on makes things much harder. Now, I am going to have to try and keep up with Ross. When we walk into the building, everyone we pass greets him. There must have been at least 20 or 30 people just from the door to the elevator. Could he really be this close with so many coworkers? Once we step onto the elevator, he hits the 4th floor button. Elevators make me nervous, so I hold onto the little bar on the wall. I think he noticed because he is now rubbing my back. As soon as the elevator stops, I get off. I am not sure how I will get used to that. "Edith, let's go over a few things here." "Okay." "You are my personal secretary. I will need you to help with emails, phone calls, and answering the door." "Answering the door?" "My office is right here." He opens the door, and it is a nice-looking office. There is a coffee bar and great views out the windows. "There are two desks?" "Yes, yours is the one closer to the door. when someone knocks, I need you to stop them from coming in. Only tell them to come in if I say it's okay. Any questions?" I am sure I have lots of them, but I have one that is bugging me bad. "What do I call you?" "How do you mean?" "Well, I can't call you daddy here that's inappropriate. Calling you Ross might look too formal as well." "You can call me sir or Mr. Miller." "I think I like sir. It sounds so authoritative." He gives me a face that makes me think he likes it, too. "I have something I need you to do." "Yes, sir?" "How about making me some coffee." "Right away, sir!" He gives me a playful smack on my butt as I pass him. I giggle and go start his coffee. I make it just like at home. At least he has never complained out loud about it. When it's done, I put it in his work mug black. I never have seen him use cream or sugar before. I walk it over and set it on his desk. He takes a sip and looks at me. "How did you know I like it black?" "I have watched you drink coffee before, sir." "Good eye for detail. I have my email set up on your computer. I am going to need you to separate emails into folders. Separate them based on who sent them and then get rid of the trash emails. Can you do that?" "Yes, sir." I go to my desk and get everything pulled up. "You have over a thousand emails here, sir!" "Well, I haven't had the time for them. Surly, you can see why I need your help now." I take a breath and just go down them one at a time. Before I know it, a couple of hours have passed.
