For two weeks, we didn't hear anything from the Alpha of the fiery pack, it's as if the Alpha went on some sort of holiday.
It's either that, or he has decided to finally let my pack and I have some rest.
Walking through the pack like I do every morning, I was met with the hunters we have in our pack.
Seeing them this early in the morning surprised me. As hunters, they don't make an appearance until late in the evening, when they must have gotten their game of the day.
As a self-reliant pack, we mostly produce the things we eat by ourselves. We hardly import things from other town, and when we do, it's mostly to get important things we can't produce by ourselves.
“Good morning Alpha.” The head of the hunters who is also a childhood friend of mine bowed lowly when they came to a stop in front of me.
“Good day.” Looking at how forlorn their faces are, I don't need anyone to tell me the problem must be too grievous. The expression on their face is enough to tell me that all's not well. “Any problem?” I ask them as I tried to think on the reason for their early morning appearance.
It can't be the bullets as I had that stocked last week, neither can it be the arrows.
I had those carved and delivered before the full moon, and the ones I ordered can last for more than three full moons, but it hasn't being up to a full moon yet.
“The border is surrounded.” Dik answers.
“Surrounded? By whom?” I growl in anger.
My mind going straight to the rogues that like to frequent our pack.
Just the mere thoughts of those wolves and their stupid lawless live, makes me want to bash their individual heads on a wall of some sort.
“The fiery pack.” Dik lowers his head.
“The fiery pack? They're here?” I ball my palm into a fist, my face morphing in anger.
“Their Alpha…”
“There you are.” A running Teny stopped in front of me. Heaving like an average human, he narrowed a glare at me.
“What's wrong?”
“I've being running around the pack searching for you, didn't think I'll find you in this place.” Straightening a bit, he breathes out before he fully stood to his height.
“What's going on? Why were you looking for me?”
Without answering my question, Teny gives the hunters an indecipherable look before turning to look at me. His eyes conveying a message no other person aside from us can be privy of.
It's like some sort of secret code, one that can't be decoded by anyone.
Getting the meaning of the look he gave me, I wave at the hunters, “you can go back to your houses, we'll address the issues later.”
“But…” Dik starts to say, but I wave him off. “It's okay, Dik, we'll talk about this when I return. Currently, I have something I need to discuss with my Beta here.”
“Okay Alpha.” The hunters bow lowly before walking towards the pack houses.
“What's up?” I ask Teny the moment the hunters were out of earshot.
“The elders called a meeting.”
“And you deemed that essential?” I whisper, shouts at him. “If not for one thing, Teny, I would have had you thoroughly beaten.”
I can't believe he made me dismiss those hunters, all for telling me of the meeting set by the elders.
“The Alpha of the fiery pack sent another warning, this time, it seems he's not joking at all.
Currently, he has more than three thousand werewolves from different packs backing him up.”
“And they're currently surrounding the entire pack.”
“Who told you? Never mind, the hunters probably did.”
“That was what we were talking about before you came in.”
“Let's go then.”
“To the border, I presume?” Smirking as I thought on how bloody and epic the battle will he between our packs, I head towards the right border?
“No silly. We need to go to the judgement room.” He links our hand together as he tried to gently force me towards the judgement room.
“Why should we do that?” Angrily glaring at him, I remove my arm from his hold. “I don't think you expect me to go to the Elders' judgement room when I have something important to do?”
I don't think he meant what I thought he meant.
“Don't be too stupid, Dess.” He looks down, “am sorry for that, my anger caused it.”
“It's nothing.” I grit out.
Presently, I have more urgent things that need my attention, a slip of tongue in his case isn't something to be looked into.
“According to what I said which you clearly didn't listen to at all, the Alpha is backed by not less than thirty packs, and they've all sent their representatives with him. Should we head over there right now, despite your strength, it won't be long until we're overpowered.” Teny sounds more comported compared to my angry self.
Currently, there's a thin line between rationality and anger, one am afraid will be easily cleaned by my anger.
“And what do you propose we do? Stay in like lambs? Give up for them without a fight?
Allow them to treat us like we're nothing but animals who can be controlled?” Growling in anger, I made to go towards the border, but an almost changed Teny stopped me.
“Please, you need to think about this. Going out there is not only suicidal, but stupid.
I envy your courage and love for this pack, but all of that will be in vain if you end up dead. The Alpha will take care of your pack without much Ado.
Your death will pace the way for him to do as he please with a pack you worked so long for.” He gives me a hearty pat on my back, “as the Alpha, you need to exercise self-control. Don't forget, it's one of the many attributes of an Alpha.”
“But he's getting on my damn nerves.”
“I know, but that doesn't mean you should act like him.”
