6 Ruthven kept the door opened wide as he strode into the room and knelt beside Cate. Her face was scrunched up, but her breathing was normal. He moved on to Adam. The vampire-dragon’s eyes opened and he looked up at Ruthven’s tense face. “What-how?” “You’ve forgotten that fire is a very good purifier, especially for spirits,” Ruthven explained.
