Jasmine POV
I took a few minutes to breathe and release the tension from my talk with Sean. His rage was something I couldn’t deny. For a moment there, I feared he might lose control again. I didn’t know where the behavior came from. Sean was not like that. I never knew Sean would have that kind of temper. He was usually understanding, and I thought he would empathize with me.
“Hey, Jas. Are you okay?” Reagan stood by my open door. “I can feel you, you know.”
I smiled at him and immediately felt better after seeing him, just like the old times.
“I’m good. Thanks,” I replied. “I’ll just pack a few things then we can go.”
“The jet will be ready in two hours. You don’t have to rush,” he said. “You don’t have to pack a lot. We can get things for you there.”
“Wait. A jet?” I asked in shock.
“Yes. A private jet.” He put a smirk on his face. “I bought one when we were in the heat of searching for you.”
Embarrassed and guilty, my face crumpled. “I’m sorry.” The royal family didn’t like flying, so my guilt doubled.
Reagan then laughed. “You knew I would do anything for you, even if you told me I didn’t have to. Finally, everything we did paid off.”
I remembered the letter I had written before I left the pack and understood what he meant. There was nothing I could reply, so I kept quiet.
“Well, I’ll be right outside if you need me.” He took his leave, and I was left alone again.
Shaking my head, I took a small luggage out of its storage and decided to pack quickly. I was about to get clothes from my closet when my phone buzzed with a call from Sean. My heart skipped a beat, and I hesitated before answering. Perhaps he would apologize for what he said earlier.
“Sean?”
“Jasmine. I’m coming. We need to talk,” he said in a strained voice.
“Sean, now isn’t a good time,” I replied as I looked toward the bedroom door. I walked to it. Reagan could already feel what I was feeling. He didn’t need to hear me arguing with Sean.”
“It’s important,” he insisted. “I’m coming to see you.”
“Sean, no–” I replied, but he had already hung up. I had not even closed the door. Without looking up, I knew Reagan was back.
“Trouble in paradise?” he asked gently.
I looked at Reagan. “Sean’s coming here.”
Reagan’s expression darkened. “Do you want to see him before we go?”
I stared at him, not knowing what to say.
“Maybe it’s time for me to meet your little boyfriend. Hmm?” One corner of his lips turned up.
“No. I don’t want trouble.” With that thought, I turned and stuffed my luggage with clothes. With Sean’s behavior, I didn’t want to see him until he was calm enough. Reagan and I had to get out of my apartment before he arrived.
“Do you need any help?” Reagans asked from behind me.
“No need. Thank you.”
I rushed around, picking up things I would bring. Just as I had zipped up my luggage, the doorbell buzzed, telling me that Sean had arrived. I stood up straight and decided to face the inevitable. I passed by Reagan, who was on his way to my bedroom and told him to behave.
I had just opened the door when Sean stormed into my apartment.
“Jasmine,” he said in a voice dripping with danger.
“Sean, this isn’t the time,” I said as I kept myself calm. “We had to catch our flight.”
“No, it is,” he insisted. “It is the time. We need to sort this out now.”
Reagan stepped out of my bedroom, pulling my luggage behind him. “Back off, Sean. You heard her. This isn’t the time for a talk. Give her some space, man.” Reagan’s presence was imposing. “Anyway, I’m Reagan. I’m Jasmine’s best friend and mate.” He smiled smugly at Sean. “I would love to shake your hand, but we have to go.”
Sean’s expression was filled with loathing. “Stay out of this, man. This is between Jasmine and me.”
“It’s not that simple,” Reagan replied. “We need to go. Didn’t you get the memo? Jasmine’s grandmother and uncle died.”
“Sean, please,” I pleaded. “Let’s talk when I get back. I promise.”
Sean’s eyes flashed with anger, and he grabbed my arm, pulling me towards the door. “You’re coming with me. Now.”
Reagan, who was taller and more muscular than Sean, moved faster than I could react. He grabbed Sean’s arm and yanked him back. “Get your hands off her.”
The two men stood facing each other, and I could feel the tension in the air had thickened. My heart raced, fear and anxiety coursing through me. It was a disaster waiting to happen.
“Stop it, both of you,” I said as I stepped between them. “This isn’t helping.”
“Jasmine, you need to choose,” Sean said. “Him or me.”
I looked at him with my heart breaking. “Sean, I can’t do this right now. I told you. My family needs me. I have to go.”
“And what about me?” he demanded. “Don’t I matter to you?”
“Of course you do,” I said in a trembling voice. “But this isn’t the time for this conversation.”
Sean’s expression twisted with rage, and he lunged at Reagan. The two of them grappled, fists flying. I watched in horror as they fought, their anger and frustration boiling over. The fight leveled up in intensity as both men were determined to come out on top.
“Stop it!” I screamed. However, my voice was drowned out by the sounds of their struggle.
Reagan managed to pin Sean to the ground, his eyes flashing with furry. “This is over, Sean. Leave now.”
But Sean wasn’t done. He snarled, his eyes flashing a strange red. For a moment, I was frozen and shocked by the sight. I didn’t know if it was another hallucination, but it couldn’t be. It was real.
Who was Sean? What is he?
“Reagan, get back,” I warned.
Sean’s strength seemed to increase, and he threw Reagan off, standing up with an eerie grace. The scent of burning wood filled the air, more intense than ever.
“You’re not taking her from me,” Sean growled.
“Sean, please,” I begged. “This isn’t you.”
Sean didn’t listen. He lunged at Reagan again, and they continued their brutal fight. Reagan managed to hold his own, but I could see the toll it was taking on him. It was clear the fight wouldn’t end easily.
Desperate, I tapped into my own power. I focused, channeling my energy, and with a surge of power, I pushed Sean back, sending him crashing into the wall.
