I woke the next morning to sawyer tracing shapes on my shoulder blades. “Hey sleepy head. Want some breakfast?” Sawyers morning voice rasps. I rest my head on his chest before sitting up abruptly looking at my clock on my nightstand and jumped up.
“f**k! I’m late, I can't believe you let me sleep till 9:30!” I yelp. I head to the bathroom wash my face, brush my teeth and then run to my closet. Pulling out a matching navy-blue bra and panty set, a white pencil skirt that falls just under my knees, a navy silk camisole, and my favorite black blazer before quickly throwing my clothes on. I look back to Sawyer still lounging in my bed while smoothing my hair into a smooth neat ponytail. “I have to go, but there’s a coffee maker and you can help yourself to my fridge. I’m so sorry I have to leave." After planting a kiss on his lips, I grab my Black purse today and put on my discarded heels from last night before closing the door behind me.
I rush out to my sleek black Mercedes and drive to my office like a bat out of hell. By the time I get up to my office on the 13th floor, its 10:15 I shoot terry a look when I get there. He just laughs before handing me my morning messages and a cup of black coffee. "Three are from authors worried that their contracts would be dropped with the takeover, the fourth from the Chief Editor calling a meeting at 11:00 in conference room 8." Terry states before going back to going through new manuscripts for me.
I head to my computer and respond to all of my urgent emails, before heading to the conference room a half hour later. I Grab another coffee from the back table before sitting down between Sam and Aiden who are talking about the Giants game last night.
Sam and Aiden were the only other editors in their 20's and the three of us hung out at work a lot. Listening to their chatter I sip my coffee quietly like it’s the key to life. I'm starting to zone out when five the Chief Editor Hannah walks in followed by a group I never thought I’d see again. Luke, Jax, and Declan looking just as hot as they did last night but dressed for business today file in behind Hannah. I notice Sawyer was nowhere to be found and sighed in relief.
Placing my coffee down for fear I’d accidentally spill it all over my white skirt and scoot into the table ignoring the stares and snickers coming from the guys standing at the head of the table. Smirking Jax grabs a chair from the back wall and slides it right next to me on my left while Luke grabs another and sits on my right side super close. Aiden and Sam shoot me inquisitive looks and I just shrug not knowing what to say. Throughout the meeting about our take over the two children sitting next to me kept passing notes and nudge me. I finally give in and pass Jax a note asking if Sawyer was on the team as well.
“Charlie, I know you’re the youngest and one of the best editors we have but if you could control your high school urges to pass notes to cute boys that would be wonderful.” Scolds Hannah.
Jax and Luke snicker beside me while I just glare. Crossing my arms across my chest I stare at Hannah and spend the rest of the meeting ignoring the pokes and jabs the boys were giving me. “Okay guys, time to introduce you to the company’s newest editors coming in from Ellis Publishing House. Luke and Jaxon are the two Charlie is flirting with. Declan is the one up here resisting her charms." more snickers from the boys. "Please give them a warm welcome. Charlie make sure your welcome isn’t too warm,” she shoots me a look.
Hannah’s parting comment makes all three of them laugh, and soon Sam, Aiden join in. I stand up stiffly, just now noticing the soreness throughout my body because I was too rushed earlier to notice. I grab my notebook and coffee and huff out of the room back to my office.
When I sit back down in my chair, I kick my shoes off under my desk, put on my reading glasses, and pull my feet under me in my big computer chair. I grab the manuscript from last night by my biggest writer Ian Klein from the corner of my desk and Soon I’m wrapped up in editing Ian’s romance novel.
Joseph walking us backwards toward his desk where he sweeps his hand across the papers pushing them to the floor before lifting me onto the clod glass top.
His lips leave mine as he makes his way down my neck nipping and kissing his way down, unbuttoning as he goes. My legs wrap around resting on his butt. Hands exploring and removing every thing they touch trying to find more skin on skin contact.
I jump when I look up to find Jax and Declan sitting in the two chairs in front of my desk. I look wearily at them. “What are you two smirking at?” I question placing the bookmark in between the pages and closing the book. I move my glasses to the top of my head wait for a response from them.
It finally comes from Jax, “I see you got lucky with Sawyer last night.” I shift uncomfortably sending a twinge to my lady part that are especially sore. I look at them not saying anything and Jax starts talking again.
“Perchance did you look in the mirror this morning before coming to work?”
I nod my head no and wearily ask, “I was running late because of your dear friend. Speaking of which is he one of the new editors as well??”
Declan Smirks finally speaking up, “He is not, but I hope you have concealer with you for those hickies on your neck.”
I sputter and quickly pull my mirror from my desk. “THAT FUCKER! I am a professional business lady not some high school girl in the back of his hand me down Chevy!” I growl at them. “No wonder Hannah called me out in the meeting! When you see your friend next tell him he better hope to never see me again.” I get up and head to the bathroom to assess the damage done to my neck.
The next couple of weeks pass by in a blur. Having been too busy with the takeover I hadn’t been able to go make Whiskey Wednesday's with Shawn so we agree to have a girl’s night on Saturday. When Shawn walks into my place, she takes one look at me and yells,
“You dirty little slut! You f****d him, didn’t you?”
“No… What about you and Dec? Huh? Did you f**k him? Because the next day he looked as perfectly put together as the night before.” I Question back.
“Oh, it wasn’t a question it was a statement. Your picture in the entry way is skewed to the left. SOOO? are you going to tell me about it or am I going to have to torture it out of you by withholding wine?” She teases. Sometimes I think Shawn knows me too well when she threatens me like this.
“I am indeed a dirty little slut,” I proudly exclaim while taking a bow. "A really dirty one. Are you sure you want to hear about it?”
“Of course, I do! So, spill it girl.” Shawn sits on my couch and waits patiently while I open a bottle of wine and pour us glasses. I sigh hand her the glass of Red and boldly plop down on my white couch next to her to tell her everything.
“I came home to all my clothes picked up and put in my laundry basket. That was nice. Oh, and he left a note on the counter telling me to call him.” Was all I got out before she interrupted me.
“Well did you call him? Seriously Charlie he’s smokin.” She squeals.
“No, and I’m not going to. It was the best s*x of my life, and I know if it happened again it wouldn’t live up to our first night, I mean it was really dirty and you just can't do that with someone you know well.” Sighing I down the wine in my glass and grab the bottle to drink straight from it. “So, what happened with you and Dec?”
“Nothing, we exchanged numbers, but he didn’t even try to kiss me at the end of the night. Also why do you keep calling him Dec? And how did you see him the next day? I didn’t think you guys talked that much that night.” She sighs, “Is there something wrong with me? He hasn’t texted me yet, and he didn’t even try to take me home.”
“Awe babe. I’m sure there’s a good reason why he hasn’t texted you. You drank a lot that Wednesday, he was just being respectful babe. I’ll talk to him at work on Monday for you though.”
Her eyes widen, “What do you mean by 'work on Monday'? You’re probably right about being drunk though.”
“Oh, yea the guys are all a part of the takeover, well except Sawyer. In fact, they’re all in editing with me.” I grin at her. “They’re actually really great guys and have been making work Fun with their shenanigans. It's less stressful through the transition for me with them there. My only worry is that Ellis Publishing House will have to start letting some of us go now that there are twenty of us. If they do, I’ll probably be the first one gone since I’m only 24 and have like half the experience of everyone else. Even Sam and Aiden have 3 years on me.” I take another long pull from the bottle finishing it.
I get up to grab a new bottle and giggle as I stumble. “whoa. I am drunk.”
Sighing Shawn pushes me back to the couch and gets up to grab a bottle. When she comes back, she has a new bottle and a bouquet of two dozen red roses. Confusion clouds my face, “Where’d you get those? You didn't have them when you came in.”
“They were just dropped off.” She grabs the card and hands it to me before placing the flowers on the center of my coffee table. “So, what does it say?”
“You never called me. So, I assume you lost my number. To not call me after that night would be hurtful, and you wouldn’t want to hurt my feelings would you? I told you I wasn't a one-night kind of man. Here’ s my number again, use it this time. Sawyer.” I read to her.
“If you don’t call him I will. I’d like to have lots of dirty s*x with him,” Shawn teases.
Three bottles in we both pass out on the couch with our heads next to each other. Sunday was spent how every hangover day is spent. Shawn and I pick up electrolyte tablets from the corner store and don’t move from the couch. We took turns playing our favorite Criminal Minds episodes, and I move to my bed when Shawn finally leaves at 9pm. I turn on my alarms for work tomorrow and pass out.
