Chapter 1

1527 Words
“Christine get in here!” exasperated and nervous I walk towards my boss’s office in my incredible tight skirt smoothing the wrinkles out. My heels clack with every step towards my doom as I like to call it.  Joseph my boss is a very handsome man with his dark hair and blue eyes. He’s well-built, super tall, and has the whole Clark Kent vibe going on. The only problem with him is his personality. He is a total asshole who’s sleeping with his assistant. Because of this, Joseph and I have been playing this game for months where he calls me into his office to yell at me for the things his girlfriend Amber did wrong. I accept the punishment because I know he’ll never believe me if I said that it wasn’t me. Perks of sleeping with the boss, I guess. The thing is, I am nowhere near close to being his assistant, I’m the senior artistic director for the whole company. As I approach his door I knock gently and wait for his permission to enter.  “Yes Sir? Is there something you need from me?” I walk up to his desk fiddling with my fingers my eyes shifting towards the floor to avoid his gaze. I hear the creak of his chair as he leans back in his chair and just stares at me waiting for me to look up. “Amber quit this morning when I told her we weren’t working out.” He leans forward in his chair to continue with the contract for the company he’s buying before looking back at me and continuing. “I just wanted to let you know that you’re going to be filling the role until we find someone to take the assistant position. It could be a week could be a couple of months. I am very picky as you know. So, I really need you to step up and try your hardest during this time Christine. I know you relied on her a lot for your work, but she won’t be here anymore for support.” I scoff and try to hold back my laugh. “Sir, it sounds like you want me to step down from my job and fill your empty assistant role. Which I know you wouldn’t be asking me to do because as a department head I am way over qualified.” Joseph huffs and walks around to the front of the desk. Only he doesn’t stop he keeps walking towards me backing me into the wall.  Roughly he grabs my chin and lifts my face.  “Do not forget who signs your paychecks Miss Walker. I am asking you to do this because I Feel like you are the easiest person to pull from their position for the time being. That being said if I have to, I will also start to find someone to fill your position as well if you like. Do not make me punish you for insubordination.” I growl at him and put my hand on his chest to push him away. As I start walking out the door joseph grabs my hand yanking me back before slamming the door shut. My back is held against his front by his arm that caught me while his other hand roughly pushes my hair to one side and whispers in my ear, “Do not walk away from me. Let me tell you something Christine. You may think you own the place walking around in your skirts and lowcut tops that entice me. You even strut around like you don’t know what you do to me, but I am the boss, and I will punish you if need be.” the entire speech his hand lingered on my bare neck stroking the tender skin there. His domineering words working some kind of spell over me turning me to mush. His hand lingering on my neck forces me to look up at him behind my shoulder, and when our eyes meet, I see his eyes darken as he reads the hunger from his words in them.  His gaze flickers down to my lips and I turn around to face him. Taking the lead, I snake my hands up around his neck and pull his face down to meet mine. When our lips finally touch, Joseph groans and pulls me ever closer to him. Our lips move in hot and hungry kisses. I slide my hands from his neck down the front of his chest and loosen his tie before starting on his buttons. Joseph walking us backwards toward his desk where he sweeps his hand across the papers pushing them to the floor before lifting me onto the clod glass top.  His lips leave mine as he makes his way down my neck nipping and kissing his way down… Buzz  Buzz  Buzz Putting my bookmark in the manuscript I’m reading. I reach into my drawer and pull my phone from the abyss of my purse.   Yo Charlotte! Where the f**k are you girl? “s**t, s**t, f*****g s**t!” I exclaim looking at the time. I was supposed to meet Shawn at 34 Planes almost twenty minutes ago for whiskey Wednesdays. This isn’t the first time in our 17-year long friendship that she’s been left waiting on me.  I mean by now you’d think that she would start showing up half an hour late every Wednesday because I always lose track of time at work. Books do that to me, and books being my job means I am late a lot. Uncrossing my legs, I slip my feet into my very expensive splurge of a pair of red bottom heels. I grab my purse from my bottom drawer barely stopping on my way out to excuse my secretary Terry. He should have left at 6 but he’s stubborn and won’t leave till I do in case I need something. I Push the down button and step in when the doors open while I quickly type a reply to Shawn letting her know I was just leaving the office, so I’d be there in 15. She’s not shocked, she never is when I tell her I’m running late.  Rushing out when the doors finally open at the ground level, I rush out still attached to my phone. I make it two steps out of the door before i smack right into a wall of muscle. I bounce off squezeing my eyes shut and bracing for impact with the floor.  I hear a low chuckle about the same time I realize im not falling and open my eyes. I look down taking in the only thing that stopped me from falling on my ass, the strong hands and arms attached to the muscle wall that grabbed my waist.  When I look up to my savior’s face, I’m met by a gorgeous pair of hunter green eyes framed by dark lashes. The hottest face I had ever laid my eyes on was smirking at me. His thick dark chocolate hair was styled perfectly in the classic male model poof, and his brows were thick and perfect except for a tiny scar running through his left. His nose was straight and slightly upturned, while is mouth was lush and kissable with a defined cupid bow. He was at least 6’5, and had broad shoulders covered by a perfectly tailored charcoal three-piece suit. He looked really expensive with his nice watch and what looked to be Italian leather shoes.. Of course, they probably weren't since no one who comes into this building makes enough money to buy custom suits or Italian leather shoes. Especially someone who looked to be mid to late 20's in this building. We’re not hurting for money, but this is San Francisco, and everything is way over-priced here.             Taking a deep breath I step back from the man noticing his hands don’t leave me before rambling out an apology. “Oh my god, I am so sorry. Seriously I’m mortified, and clearly have an addiction to my phone since I can’t put it down to make sure I don’t accidentally take out a hot stranger. Please forgive me. I promise not to do it again.” He grins at me flashing his dimples, and I swear I melt right there. “Don’t worry about it, maybe I can convince you to do it again sometime." He glances down at his watch, "As much as I want to bump into you some more, I'm late and need to go. Have a nice night,” his deep voice rumbles in a southern drawl. Dropping his hands, he winks, catches the elevator doors, gets on and smiles at me one more time before the door closes.
