Chapter 6: New Worlds

2070 Words
Scorch's POV I woke up to a beautiful giggle that gave me chills. I shifted into my human form. I was still basically wrapped around with my arms, and I was sitting behind her with my legs at her outer sides. "I know I'm supposed to take you to the Enchanted Forest, but I want a day with you..." I whispered near her ear. She had bed head, but hair still looked good. She lifted her head and looked up at me with her big emerald, green eyes. "Okay." She agreed then closed her eyes leaning back against me. "But why is that?" she questioned. "Because after this I'm never going to see you again." I answered then stood up. I needed as much time with my mate as I could get. "Plus, I want to show you, my world." I walked in front of her to extend my hand to her. She took it without thought and stood up with the help of my hand. "Your world?" She slightly tilted her head to the side. "What do you mean? More of the dark forest or..?" I chuckled then let go of her hand and turned my back to her. "Find out for yourself and get on my back." She smiled and jumped onto my back with her legs wrapped around my torso. Her arms wrapped around my neck as I smirked. "Hold on tight kid." I shifted into my dragon form and my mates’ eyes widened out of surprise. I shot out of the cave and into the clouds with a loud embracive roar. Carissa's POV I held onto Scorch tightly and yelped as we shot into the sky. He went so high so fast. I looked around and we were already among the clouds. We flew peacefully beside birds. Who knew birds even flew this high! I let out laughter and giggles of joy. I felt in control like I was the one soaring when it was actually just Scorch. This was easily the best thing I had ever experienced! "Let go." Scorch roared. "What?! Are you crazy?!" I freak out and hold on even tighter, why would I let go?? Even I had my limits to the crazy things I do. Scorch laughed loudly then roared. "Trust me! You'll love it and if you fall, I'll catch you! You have to trust your me I'm your mate!" His voice sounded rough and deep in his dragon form. My ears were also plugged from being so high, and the wind was loud against my ears, so I barely heard him. But what I did hear was, “You’ll love it,” “trust me,” and “catch you.” So, I let go and threw my hands up. I took my phone out and took pictures before putting it away. The wind in my hair and the rush I felt, letting go was amazing so guess what? I wasn't going to stop there, slowly I stood up. "Hey sit down!" I heard him roar, but it didn't stop me, I started walking then running. "Sit your ass down you're being crazy!" I ran until I reached the front of his giant head and I jumped impulsively. Yes, but actually not jumped. I dove right off of him and thru the clouds. This was me trusting him. I couldn't possibly trust any other person this much. I trusted him with my life. I could die now, and I wouldn't regret a thing. In this moment I felt like I was flying. Within 30 seconds I felt Scorch under me roaring loudly and we landed on a nearby cliff. I quickly climbed off him while I still felt the excitement from jumping off of him. He shifted into his human form and glared at me. "What the hell were you thinking?! You could have died!" He scolded me as if I were a child. I looked up at him. "I was thinking I could trust you. That was me trusting you!" I protested with a smile from the adrenaline rush and my heart was still racing. He shook his head and sneered. "That was you being crazy! You gave me no warning! You're small I barely felt you stand up and run on me! So, your two small feet didn't give me much of a warning either!” He calmed down face palmed. “That was the first time I let someone outside ride me." I flinched slightly as I was scolded. "I-I am sorry... Scorch I'm sorry." Scorch dropped his hand and loosened up. "Look I'm glad you trust me so much, but I need to know I can trust you, that you won't just do whatever you feel like. I'm not the best at flying directly under something to catch it since I haven't had much practice in it. You could have easily been elf pancakes," he joked to lighten the tension then chuckled. "It scared the f**k out of me." I bite my lip in anticipation. "Okay. So... Again? This time I'll stay seated, at all times." I smiled and jumped right onto his back. Oh, and I barely just realized I never gave him my name... oh well I'll wait for him to ask. "Hold on too, please." He shifted into his dragon form and took off. He showed me a lot of the dark forest, the mountains, the lakes, even the Kingdom’s city that I wasn’t even aware of. I’m not sure how many elves were aware of it. The common elf probably wasn’t but, I’m sure my father the king was well aware… he kept a lot from me. "Hey uh, have you ever seen humans before? Not like us but humans who are only human and don’t shift into anything." He asked me. "No. I heard they are no different from us, the only differences are they have no magical abilities, are typically taller, and have round ears like you in your human form. Why?" I felt like we passed through something, like a magical barrier. He didn't answer, instead he landed and shifted into his human form. He took my hand, and we walk beside a tree and in front of us this strange place. "Is this a mage city?" I looked around at the people. “It seems too plain to be a mage city.” It didn’t seem too magical. There were a lot more cars on the streets than in elf kingdoms or mage cities. Mages usually got around by portals and teleportation. He chuckled at my observation. "Mages look like humans like we do but these are all actual humans. You can tell because of the overwhelming technology instead magic." Humans weren't behind or head of us in technology, but they relied on it a lot more. I wanted to get a closer look, but I knew it wasn’t a good idea. "We’re in the human realm? I thought we’d have to use a portal?" I took a few pictures for memories. “Mages use portals but there are access points in out realm that act as invisible doors into different realms,” He explained. We were watching from a distance. I saw tall buildings that had a lot of windows. Their city wasn’t very different than ours just flashier, a few things here we don't have, and few things we had that they didn't. "Scorch you know this is forbidden for us to be here?" I mentioned. I did like seeing a world different then my own, so far today I saw two. The world of a dragon, through the sky and the freedom. Then a small glimpse of the human world, one without magic or magical beings which sounds weird. Although I still hope I get to explore the human world one day. He was staring at me. "I know. For your people it is, a few dragon shifters actually live among humans blending in. I wanted to show you something new. Maybe one day we'll get you a disguise. You know cover your ears get you their clothes and-" He just stopped, probably realized I wouldn't be coming back to the dark forest. That we would never see each other again. Neither of us said anything else. He flew us to a cave near the border, the cave we met in. Scorch was tired from all his flying. “When you go back home, are you going to tell anyone about this?” He sat down. “No, if I did, I’d get in a lot of trouble.” I started pacing. “Could you image a world where elves and dragons got along?” Scorch laughed. “No, I couldn’t but it would be nice.” I stopped pacing. “Close your eyes and think about it.” I closed my eyes. “Are your eyes closed?” “Yes, your majesty, they’re closed,” He teased. I took a deep breath. “Start with a small village. In this village there are dragons and elves living together. They help each other out in this community and have for decades. The children of both species play together.” “Do we live here?” Scorch asked. I bit my lip. “We do. We’ve been friends since we were little. We’ve never known of a time where our species didn’t get along. When you look up you can see dragons flying even with elves on the back of some. They see each other as equals with respect and enjoy each other’s company. I heard Scorch stand up and he walked closer and closer to me. “Do the elves and dragons date each other?” I scoffed. “Of course, they do. They fall in love and have families together. They teach their culture to each other and share it.” I felt both his hands holding mine. I opened my eyes and looked up. He was so close I could feel his breath. I pulled my hands away and took a few steps back with a blush on my face. “Sorry,” He apologized. “No it’s fine…” I walked to the opening of the cave. Scorch followed me. “Don’t go too far. There’s a lot of dragons who would take off their frustrations with elves by killing you. I don’t want them to spot you. We’re pretty close to the border so there won’t be too many. I had to fly so high earlier so none of them would spot you on my back.” I stared at the sky and spotted a few dragons in the distance. “Scorch we’re friends, right?” “Sure.” “Why can’t we see each other again? I’ve been here all day without my life being threatened. All I have to do is stay out of plain sight.” I stared down at the ground. He pushed my hair behind my ear. “It’s dangerous. There’re more than dragons to fear. There are vampires, ogres, and a werewolf pack if you go too far in a certain direction. They don’t have the best history with elves either.” “I don’t fear any of them.” Scorch sighed. “I’m glad you don’t fear then but you should be cautious because they don’t generally like elves. If they feel threatened, they’ll attack in defense. Elves have a history of being threatening so it won’t take much for them to feel threatened. Your magic can only do so much. You’re safest in your own kingdom.” So, this was it, this night was the end of our time together. I would be back in the enchanted kingdom in the morning. To tell the truth I don't want to go back but I had to. If wasn’t only for my safety. I was the princess after all, I couldn't just disappear.
