“The thing is…I felt like I was running away from you. The last thing I ever wanted to do was force you into something you didn’t want, but then…” my voice once again trailed off and I looked down at my hands. “The other day when you told me you had known…you looked happy?”
“Are you asking me or telling me?” he asked, and I smiled as I looked back at him.
“Asking…because I need to make sure,”
“I was happy,” he admitted. “Until…well, there was just something about the look on your face that made me doubt what Kayley had told me. I thought that it could be entirely possible that you didn’t want me, and I had just made a big fool out of myself,”
“I’m sorry you felt that way. You took me completely by surprise and I didn’t want to scare you with my…well, honestly Luca, I didn’t want to just grab you,”
“Like you did at the beach?” he asked softly, and I nodded. “I’m sorry I said that to you,”
“Which part?” I asked curiously. The thing was, his rejection had hurt more than he would ever know, and his parting words had dug into my already broken heart.
“All of it. See…I got it into my head that I had to reject you first. I couldn’t handle the thought of you rejecting me, so I thought if I could do it first, it would be all right…then you…”
“I kissed you,”
“Yeah, you did, and I didn’t mean what I said…I was just so shocked by it. The kiss, the way it made me feel, it scared me,” he revealed, and I felt dirty about it once again.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
“No, you don’t need to be. I am the one that acted like…well, I mean like a kid,” he laughed, but I could tell that it was his way of covering up his embarrassment.
“You had every right to act that way, Luca. I forced myself on you and that is not one of my proudest moments, I can assure you,” I looked away, trying my best to hide my own embarrassment. The truth was, I had been replaying that kiss in my head since it had happened, and I regretted the way I had taken our first kiss away from the both of us.
“Will you do it again?” he asked so softly that I wasn’t sure I had heard him.
“No,” I promised. I would never do that to him again.
“Will you kiss me again?” this time his question made me look at him and the hope in his eyes had me breathing in his scent.
“I want to,” I admitted. “But…I think we need to establish something first,”
“And what’s that?” he asked, and I didn’t miss the way his eyes lingered on my lips.
“I think we need to establish that I don’t want to reject you, Luca. I want to be with you,” his eyes shot up to mine, and the smile that graced his lips made my heart skip a beat.
“I want to be with you too,” he revealed, but even as he leaned in, something stopped me, and I abruptly stood up. There was one thing that I was worried about, and I wasn’t sure if I should bring it up with him or not. Luca looked hurt but curious and I awkwardly laughed as I stepped away from him.
“I suppose this is the moment that I admit that I have no idea how to cook,”
“You don’t?” he asked in surprise, and I nodded. “Well, luckily for you, I do,” he stood up and held out his hand. Nerves hit me once again, but I managed to put my hand in his and the electricity that shot through my body took me by delightful surprise. “Wyatt…?” he whispered, and I tore my gaze away from his lips and stared into his beautiful blue eyes.
“Hmm?”
“Kiss me,” the soft demand had my head spinning, but I couldn’t deny it any longer and I pulled him closer until his chest was pressed right up against mine. I carefully ran my hands up and down his arms as we gazed at each other, slowly leaning in, inch by antagonizing inch. When he reached up and wrapped his arms around my neck, pulling me closer, I couldn’t help but feel thrilled at having him this close. Finally.
“Luca,” I whispered his name right before our lips lightly brushed against each other. It was barely a kiss, but neither one of us pulled away, so I did it again and again. Luca moaned softly and the hunger and need I had been suppressing came forward in full force. However, with as much restraint as I could muster, I didn’t kiss him the way I so desperately wanted, but I did press our lips together harder. Luca moaned again as I licked against the seam on his lips and when I ran my hands over his back before settling them on his hips, he gasped in delight, and I gently pushed the tip of my tongue inside his heat. The whimpers of need that he made had me deepening the kiss and when we both needed to breathe, I pressed my forehead against his.
“Now that…was…”
“Amazing?” I suggested, and I felt him tense for a second before he relaxed once again.
“Yes, amazing,”
“That should have been our first kiss,” I said softly, but Luca gently shook his head.
“No, it was perfect,” I wasn’t sure if he was being serious about it, but I didn’t want to dwell on the past anymore. I finally had my Luca, and I wasn’t about to let him go. Ever. Of course, the fact that Rain was also my mate had me worried, but I didn’t want to think about that right now either.
“So, dinner?” I asked, but as I looked down at him, I had a feeling he had other plans and that should’ve scared me – and it did – but I also wanted to be with him.
“How about we order some pizza or something and just hang out?” the sparkle in his eyes gave away exactly what he meant by ‘hang out’ but I wasn’t going to complain.
“Sounds like a good plan,” I said as I let go of him and took out my phone. I immediately dialed the café as I watched Luca get comfortable on the couch. “You good with something from King’s Apple?” I asked him, and he nodded.
“Hello, you’ve reached King’s Apple, how may I help you?” Noah’s voice filled my ear and I smiled as I sat down next to Luca.
“Hey Noah,” I greeted.
“Oh hey, boss…what’s up?”
“I’d like to put in an order,”
“Sure, what will it be?” he asked, and I could hear the sounds of the crowd in the background. “The usual?”
“Ah…no…I’d like to order two triple hamburgers, two large fries, and one coleslaw,” Luca snapped his head to me when I placed the order and I blushed.
“Oh, boss! Are you on a date?” Noah asked as I heard him moving around. I had to guess that he was probably on his way to the back to put in the order.
“Yes…”
“Well…you do know that Toasty buns' burgers are way better than ours,” he teased, and although he had a good point, I also knew that Toasty buns didn’t deliver.
“Right well, I’ll have two large strawberry milkshakes with that,”
“Alright boss, I’ll even deliver it myself,”
“Thanks, Noah,” I said before I hung up.
“Hmm, so how do you know what my favorite thing is to eat that isn’t made by my mom?” Luca asked as he snuggled up against me as I wrapped my arm around his shoulders.
“I know quite a bit about you, Luca,” I admitted. “As soon as I got over the initial shock of you being male, I followed you around quite a bit…” I should’ve been embarrassed to admit that, and, on some level, I was, but I did not regret it.
“Stalker,” Luca teased as he leaned up and pressed his lips against mine. It was like two puzzle pieces finally coming together and I felt the heat wrap around us like a fuzzy blanket and I couldn’t help but deepen the kiss as I explored his mouth. We sat there on the couch, kissing, and snuggling until the buzzer went off in the apartment.
“Be right back,” I whispered against Luca’s lips before I jumped up and hurried to the intercom. “Noah?”
“Yes, boss,” as soon as I heard Noah’s voice, I pushed the buzzer and opened the apartment door. I desperately wanted to look over my shoulder at the man sitting on the couch, but I didn’t. A small part of me still couldn’t believe that this was happening. I heard the sound of the elevator and soon thereafter Noah was striding down the hallway. The second he spotted me, he smirked.
“Special delivery!” he sang out and I rolled my eyes at him.
“How much do I owe you?” I asked him as I stepped back inside to let him in.
“Nothing, the boss said it’s on the house,” I snapped back at him even though he was now curiously looking over at Luca – who was hunched over what I had to assume was his phone.
“Rain?” I asked as I turned my direction back to him as I grabbed my wallet off the entrance table.
“No, Adam,”
“Adam?”
“Yeah…he was in the kitchen when I placed the order and, well…let’s just say he seemed impressed that you were on a date,” Noah explained as he continued to try and see exactly who Luca was. I was surprised that he didn’t seem shocked or disgusted by the fact that my date was male. “Who is he?” Noah whispered, but as I glanced over at Luca, I knew he had heard.
“Luca,” I said with pride, and Luca turned to face us and I didn’t miss the smile on his lips. Noah nodded as he waved at him. Luca simply nodded in greeting before he turned his attention back to his phone.
“I’ve seen him around,” Noah whispered. “I didn’t know you two even knew each other,” I debated on how much to tell my fellow employee as I took the bag and cupholder from him and carefully placed the items on the kitchen counter.
“We do, quite well actually,” I said as I then took out some money. Noah waved his hand, dismissing the money, as he continued to stare at Luca.
“How well?”
“Noah,” I warned.
“What? He is cute…do you think he has a single friend for me?” he asked as he finally tore his gaze away from my mate.
“I didn’t know you were-” I abruptly stopped in shame for the word that was about to come out of my mouth.
“Gay? No, bi, yes,” he said with a wink, and I relaxed at the fact that he hadn’t taken offense to my comment – almost comment. “I didn’t know you were either,” he added as he left the apartment. “See you tomorrow boss!” he sang out and I quickly closed the door.
“Special delivery,” Luca sang from his spot on the couch, and I laughed as I grabbed the items and headed over to him.
“Most definitely,” I said as I set the food and drinks on the coffee table. Our juice was still there, but I didn’t pay any attention to that as I turned my attention to Luca as I sat down next to him.
“Kiss me,” he softly ordered, and I smiled.
“Abso-f*****g-lutely,”
