CHAPTER THREEThe Marquis of Buckwood walked into White’s Club.
He had been away for three years and was pleased when the porter welcomed him,
“Good morning, my Lord. It’s so nice to see you back.”
“Thank you, James,” the Marquis replied. “Are any of my particular friends in the Club this morning?”
The porter hesitated for a moment and then he said,
“Mr. Windell is in the Coffee Room.”
“Good!” the Marquis exclaimed.
He thought that it was just like home coming back to White’s.
When he had last been here, he had not inherited his title, yet the porter had not only remembered him but knew that he was now higher up on the Social Ladder.
He walked into the Coffee Room where there was a sprinkling of men he did not know.
Then at the far end of the room he saw his friend, Charles Wind
