The necklace that she knew was bad luck had been mended and that was all that concerned her and the sooner she could climb wearily into bed and go to sleep the better. She pulled the curtains over her window and, taking off her dressing gown, got into bed. Then she blew out the candles. Almost automatically, because it was the last thing she always did at night, she said a prayer.
