(Cora POV) It was late—quite beyond 12 AM—when I finally drifted into bed. The weight of everything I had heard before pushed down on me like a stone. The idea that we were taking up all available time and that something terrible was surrounding us didn't leave me. The haziness outside the glass was choking, and I did not know if it was my creative mind or something else. I lay gazing at the ceiling, the wooden pillars above me creating faintly darkened regions in the evening glow. Liam had firmly dozed off, his breathing slow next to mine; however, I was unable to rest.
