CHAPTER 5 BetrayalBrimstone stormed out of his room, leaving Burr alone to cry at his desk. He stomped outside, through the courtyard, and threw himself down on the bench outside The Grotto. When he was little, before his father left, before his mother’s boyfriend moved in, before all of the trouble that landed him here, he’d learned that the key to mastering his anger was in exercise. He ran, he lifted weights, he played sports. And if he wasn’t able to do any of those things, if he were in a place where none of them were an immediate option, he could tense his muscles and release, tense his muscles and release.
So that’s what he did.
