CHAPTER 6

1140 Words
" what are we going to do now, she can't possibly stay in the hospital forever? "    Officer Michael asked one of the police officers that had been sent to California to inform Maha's grandparents about taking custody of Maha,  so she can leave the hospital ward and have legal guardians taking care of her, but unfortunately just like Maha had suspected they right out rejected knowing Maha or her parents, they had claimed not giving their son permission to marry that  'African witch he brought home'  according to Mrs Richardson maha's grandmother, hence why they disown James a long time ago.  So anything that had to do with James or his offspring wasn't any of their concern, he chose the path for himself,  his surviving daughter should suffer the foolishness of her father, hence blaming Annetta maha's mother for pushing their son to his death...   All this transpired during the officers' visit to California and they related just as much to Michael while standing outside maha's hospital room, whereas not aware of the fact that Maha was eavesdropping on every conversation and she took it to heart. She moved lifelessly back to her hospital bed, laying on it, as she allowing everything she heard do a replay in her head. This she knows, her grandparents do not love her, no they don't even want to spare the chance to meet her and they think maha's mother is the main source behind her father, their son's death.     The only people who care for her are gone, gone never to return, the relative she has left within reach wants nothing to do with her, simply because her parents chose their love and happiness over her grandparents' wishes. And now she is fallen victim of circumstances of their love story and all this was just too much for her little brain to comprehend, what was so wrong in her parents finding fulfillment in one another, what was so wrong in choosing to be with the one you love, this she couldn't understand and it was putting pressure on her little brain. "I  think she will be sent to a foster home or the orphanage until  someone picks interest in her for adoption, she is still very young definitely a nice family will take her up for adoption, you shouldn't worry too much" the officer said patting Michael on the back, it was no news to them that Michael was already so attached to the little girl, it was obvious in his actions how much he cared for maha . "I really wish I could take her in, if only the chief will let me," Michael sighed, palming his face... " You know it's not quite possible, except you get married, I think if you have a partner like a fiance chief might pull some strings and have you adopt her, but then we all know you don't even have a girlfriend." Michael rolled his eyes at Kevin's reply. "even if I have a partner, I have no less than $10 in my account, so how do you expect me to take care of her everyday needs, maybe I'll just wait till I make enough money then take her off any orphanage home she is in hopefully she isn't adopted before then and I don't mean that in a bad way"  Michael quickly added, defending his speech. He just wants the best for Maha, he knows how hard it is living with adopted parents or in an orphanage facility, and he only wished there was something he could do to spare Maha such experience. But then again, there isn't anything he can do, not yet.   " We will be on our way, we've reported to chief  directly before coming here, and I think he is already working on any available orphanage or foster home to send her to, she might leave here sooner than expected. it's better you spend the rest of the day with her"   Kevin suggests before bidding Michael goodbye and heading towards the elevator with his partner. Michael face palmed in defeat before heading back into maha's hospital room... "Hey there," Michael greeted, trying to not show his worries, Maha gave him a look that says she wasn't buying the casual hay before she sighed sitting up straight.. " Am I going to be adopted or sent to the orphanage? "   Maha asked, letting Michael know she is aware of what her odds here,  he doesn't need to lie to cover up the fact that her own bloods don't want her, that's easy to catch on. " maha"   Michael called affectionately, feeling sorry for the little girl. " It's not your fault uncle Mikey, I know they don't want me and I know why, I overheard your conversation with the other officers. I just want to know if I'm been giving up for adoption right away or being taken to an orphanage." She asked dejectedly, obviously accepting her fate.. " I guess we will have to wait to hear from the chief to know what's next. I really wish I could do something about this Maha. "  Michael replied painfully. Maha smiled lightly. At least there is someone who isn't her blood that cares for her this much. " It's fine, Uncle Mikey, I understand, I just hope you come visit wherever I'm being sent to. "  Maha asked. Michael smiled, pinching her cheeks   "Off-course I will sweet cheeks, and I might even drag Tracy along with me, I wouldn't dare not see you smile ever, I'll always visit." Michael assured, smiling brightly at her, hoping the blonde nurse wouldn't reject the offer ... " thank you, thank you uncle Mikey, you are the best"    She smiled, hugging him.. Even if deep down all she wants to do is break down and cry her little Brian knows it wouldn't change the situation of things, Michael might be there to console her for the meantime but she knows he won't always be there to console her, and she knows no one would give a f**k about her in the orphanage, because she wouldn't be the only kid in there with a heart-breaking story or sad story about how they ended up being orphans, so it's better she accepts things the way they are now, even if it is hard for her..   She has to be strong for her own sake.. Because no-one gives a s**t anymore.. It's just her against the world now and even from this young age she is making up here, made not to face it as a pathetic, scared little orphan girl, no. She is going to be strong grow up amidst the odds and bashing that would come along and she would put her grandparents to shame and make them regret their decision of abandoning her.
