Chapter 17

"Yes, we met a strange man at that mall and the king was not pleased with the encounter at all" Elise nodded at her brother, telling him half of what had happened earlier at the mall, "I am pretty sure that the man wasn't a human," She said, tapping her finger against her chin. Ezra frowned, he knows that there are a vast amount of different creatures walking among them across the world, "Then what was he?" He asked her curiously, wondering what creature would have made the werewolf king mad. "Um, I don't know" Elise shook her head, her mind going back to the man she met earlier, his striking features with a set of amber eyes, "His scent was familiar though. I know that I smelt it before but I can't remember when I did that-" "But you don't forget anything that easily" Ezra interrupted his sister in disbelief. Elise nodded at her brother, "I know" She said. It was true, she isn't the one who easily forgets about anything that happened in her life. She might not remember her life before she stumbled into the Red Pride but everything after that is vivid in her memory, "That's why I am confused as well. He called me Eliza. That name sounded similar to mine..." She trailed. Why does it feel like she heard that name before? As if the name once belonged to someone she knows? Was it because it sounded almost like her name? "Well, I heard from somewhere that there a people who look somewhat like you out there," Ezra said, snapping her from the train of her thoughts, "Maybe he has mistaken you for that person" She looked up to see her brother shrugging at her carelessly. "Yeah, that's what I thought" Elise nodded her head, half-heartedly. "But why the King took you to the mall in the first place? You could have told me if you wanted anything" Ezra asked her suddenly making her gulp. What should she tell her brother? That the king took her there and then forced her to pick out some clothes for him after confessing to her that he liked her? She was too embarrassed to even say that out loud. Her brother was still waiting for her to answer him so she smiled sheepishly at him, "Um, we were supposed to look around the kingdom but then he remembered he needed some shirts so we ended up going into a mall" She said, scratching the back of her neck uncomfortably. This is the first time she is lying through her teeth to her brother. Sure, she might have hidden the fact she had some powers but she never lied to him. Ezra gaped, "He shops at the mall? Doesn't he wear only designer clothes?" He asked her, trying to remember all the apparels that the king has worn since they met. That must have easily cost him a fortune. Elise gritted her teeth together, "Apparently he liked to shop there once in a while" She said, hoping her brother would stop asking her more questions about the 'date', "So what did you do when we went out?" She asked her brother, changing the subject quickly. "Nothing much" Ezra answered her sister, momentarily forgetting about what they were talking about, "There is a library in the castle. I spent some time there before wandering around for a bit" He continued, rolling to his tummy, his face scrunching up a little. They were in Elise's room now. Elise came to find her brother right away after she returned to the castle. The expression on Ezra's face suggested to Elise that he might have experienced something uncomfortable when she was away, "What?" She asked her brother worriedly. Ezra's eyes focused on his sister again, "I was stopped by a few butlers when I was about to walk into a hallway" He said, recalling the three butlers who told him strictly that he cannot enter that area, "They said the King doesn't approve anyone going in there" He informed his sister. Elise didn't think it was something abnormal."Well, maybe the King is a private person" She said, raising her shoulders to shrug at her brother. "Maybe" Ezra agreed but he was still curious to see what was there in that hallway, "So when you will start training for your powers?" He asked her, wanting to see his sister use her powers again. Elise made a face, "I am supposed to start it today with Beta Murray" She said, mentally preparing herself for that."I am actually kind of nervous about that. Can you be there for me?" She asked her brother, a hopeful smile on her face. Ezra grinned, "Of course" He answered her without thinking twice making the smile on Elise's face broaden. "You're the best brother ever, Ezra!" She said grinned. There was a knock on the door, gaining both of their attention, "Oh that must be Beta Murray" She said,"Let's go" She nudged him gently to get up from the bed before sprinting towards the door. She flung the door open and found Murray standing there with a warm smile on his face, "Are you ready, Ms. White?" He asked her, stepping away to give her some space to walk out from the door. Elise nodded her head and stepped out from her room, followed by her brother, "Beta Murray, please call me Elise" She said, not politely. She will feel much comfortable if he called her by her first name. Murray nodded his head, "If you insist" He said, gesturing them to follow him as he started to walk, his posture was held high as he walked confidently towards the elevator, his shoes clicking against the tiles, "We will be training at the royal garden for today as you are an earth elemental" He informed them as they walked behind him. Elise tried not to show the anxiousness on her face as they stepped into the elevator, "What I have to do today?" She asked him, hoping he had planned something easy for her to start. But little does she know, Murray doesn't settle for anything less. He watched her for a few seconds, "You're going to make the flowers bloom in the garden" He answered her question after a while when the elevator dinged and opened. Elise's eyes widened, "What?" She gasped, her eyes flickering towards her brother in panic, and found him watching Murray in disbelief as well, "But the sun is almost going down now! Is it possible for me to do that?" She asked, turning her gaze to the Beta of the Betas again but he was already stepping out from the elevator. Elise and Ezra dashed out of the elevator to catch up with Murray, "You're an earth elemental, Elise" Murray said, staring right ahead as he walked out of the castle, "Anything is possible to you" He glanced at her and noticed that she was looking really anxious. "Besides, the garden is scattered with evening primrose which will bloom once the sun goes down. You're going to speed up its pace, just a little" He added as if that is the easiest thing on earth. Ezra and Elise exchanged a meaningful glance, "You're going to do great, Elise. I am sure of it" Ezra tried to cheer her up but it didn't seem like it worked. Elise couldn't concentrate on anything as she blindly followed Murray towards the beautiful garden. If any other day, she would love to be out here, soaking up the evening sun but today, her heart was in her throat. "Alright, we are here," Murray said, making her look up at him. The garden was so beautiful. The well-kept field of grass is contoured by flower bushes. The larger trees stand behind the smaller bushes that were swaying lightly as the wind blew. It was a spacious garden and Elise could imagine how it will be like to host a tea party here. A small pond was built near the left edge of the garden and from the looks of it, there might be some fishes in there. There were some stepping stones that would be the guide to the garden so one could see everything the garden has to offer. Elise's eyes fell on the greenhouse that was situated. She felt the sudden urge to step inside the whole different world but now it isn't the right time to visit the greenhouse. But, she will definitely find some time to do that one day. "Look at the flower buds," Murray said, grabbing her attention again. Elise focused her eyes on the flower buds, obeying what the beta said without any objections, "Let your mind expand towards them, give them your undivided attention" Murray instructed her, once he was satisfied with the way Elise eyed the buds. Elise took a deep breath and nodded her head, "Okay" She said softly, so soft that she didn't know if she told that to herself or at her mentor. She tried to do as he had said. She closed her eyes for a second and pep talked to herself before opening them again, her eyes fixating on the buds. Elise lifted her hands in front of her and willed in her mind to control the roots first. She needs to use some logic here. Flowers need water to survive and bloom and if she was able to get the roots to absorb as much water and nutrients from the soil then she might have a great chance at making this task happen. Golden hues started to appear around her hands like the previous time but this time, Elise was fully prepared for it. She watched as the golden hues traveled in the air like a cloud of fairy dust towards the roots of those plants. The leaves shook a little, overwhelmed by the sudden amount of proteins that were shooting up until the tip of the leaves. Ezra and Murray watched her in amazement. She was so close to making those buds bloom, "Take deep breaths, Elise" Murray encouraged her softly, "That's it" He nodded his head at her in approval when she inhaled deeply through her nose and exhaled it via her mouth, her hands moving in front of her. "Imagine how the flowers would look like when they blossom and will your heart to let that happen," Murray said in a gentle voice, not wanting to startle her so she wouldn't accidentally waver her concentration. Elise pictured in her head just like what Beta Murray said. Like a hyper-lapse of blossoming evening primrose. From somewhere far away, she heard a wolf let out a howl and she gasped, distracted momentarily, "You cannot get distracted by measly things, Elise" Murray said, warning her to stay focused. Elise nodded her head again, not taking her eyes off the buds, "Okay, Beta Murray" She said. Taking another deep breath, she took one last long look at the buds before fluttering her eyes close. Bloom, she thought. And as if the buds heard her command, they bloomed softly, spreading the petals beautifully. Ezra smiled truly proud of his sister for the achievement she made today. He looked to the side at Beta Murray and found him smiling fondly at his sister as well, "Open your eyes, Elise" Murray said to her. It wasn't a command but it was a request. Taking a deep breath, she opened her eyes slowly and once they focused on the buds again, her eyes widened and a gasp left her lips. She raised her hands quickly and cupped her mouth with both of her hands in disbelief. She couldn't believe that she did that. She made the flowers bloom! A delighted squeal left from her lips and she was suddenly up and down in excitement, her eyes flickering towards her brother and her mentor before going back to the flowers again. "There, you did that," Murray said, happy to see her happy, "Congratulations" He added, smiling at her. Elise grinned from ear to ear, "Beta Murray!" She chirped in happiness, dropping her hands to her side, "I can't believe that I just did that!" She squealed as she spun around to look at her mentor. Then, her eyes flickered towards her brother, "Ezra, did you watch that? Oh my god," She asked her brother, pointing at the flowers. Ezra nodded his head at his sister, truly happy that his sister was over the moon. He hasn't seen her this excited over something for a very long time now. Murray cleared his throat, "I am happy that you're delighted to discover this power but you're not supposed to try this out in public" Murray suddenly said, making Elise stop squealing, "There is no one around us so it is okay but if someone catches you doing this, then you will be in great trouble" He reminded her so she wouldn't try on her own. The existence of the earth manipulator should be kept as a secret to prevent anyone from coming after her. The smile on Elise's face was completely wiped off as if it wasn't there in the first place, "So I can't try this out as I would like?" She asked Murray, disappointment coloring her face. Murray shook his head, "I am afraid you can't, Elise" He said, "You have to understand how important it is to keep this a secret. Your life could be in danger because of it" He said, truly worried for the safety of the Luna Queen. Elise blinked, not understanding why she would be in danger, "But why?" She pressed, looking down at her hands, "How something so beautiful can land me in danger?" She asked him in a whisper, still looking at her hands. Arthur who was watching the entire thing from far suddenly appeared right next to Murray in a flash, "Because people out there would do anything to possess the power you have" Arthur told her softly making her eyes shot up in surprise to look at him, "Or even to possess you if they can't have your powers so they will make use of your powers" He explained to her. That does make sense to her. But most importantly, "You were out here the whole time?" She asked Arthur, a small smile curving at the corners of her lips. It felt like there were only the two of them present in the garden now. She could only focus on him, how Arthur was smiling fondly at her."How can I miss such a sight?" Arthur asked, making the smile on her face broaden, "You did well, Elise. I can't wait to discover what else you can do" He grinned at her, nodding his head in approval. For some strange reason, Elise was thrilled and over the moon to receive that compliment from him. She doesn't know why it mattered to her. "Thank you, your highness" She smiled at the King, "I won't do this in public, Beta Murray. I promise" She said, her eyes flickering towards Murray again. Murray nodded his head at her, satisfied with her answer, "Then I believe our session has come to an end. I will meet you again tomorrow at this same spot" Murray told her. Elise nodded and sprinted towards Ezra, "If that's all, please excuse us, your highness" Elise said, her eyes flickering towards the King who was watching her like a hawk. Her heart tugged. Memories from the car flooded in her mind making her turn crimson under his gaze. She tried not to think of everything the king said but it felt like it was impossible. Everything was already tattooed in her brain forever. Arthur nodded his head and watched the two of them walk away from there, "She is perfect, isn't she?" He asked his beta once the two of them completely disappeared from the line of his sight. Murray smiled, "That she is" He agreed in a heartbeat.
