Chapter 15

"Where are we going, your highness?" Elise asked when Arthur started the car, making the engine roar into life. This was the first time Arthur was driving a sports car. He personally SUV but Murray suggested him to bring her out in this car. And of course, Arthur agreed right away. The smaller the car, the better, "Just to show you around here" Arthur said, stomping on the gas pedal making the car lurch forward. Elise nodded her head and looked out from the car window as they passed the gravel road, "Why my brother isn't coming with us as well?" She asked him, her tone almost sounded accusing. She didn't want her brother to feel like he was left alone. Elise didn't fail to notice her brother's face fall when the King only asked her to get ready to go out right after their breakfast. She felt helpless at that time really. She couldn't say no to the king and at the same time, she couldn't suggest to the king to let her brother tag along as well. She didn't want to look like a damsel that needs her brother all the time. The fact that her brother came all this way for her made her feel worst. Arthur's hands tightened around the steering wheel. He didn't expect her to ask that, "Because there's no seat for him" He uttered, keeping his eyes on the road. He wanted this 'date' to go as he planned. It has been a century since he tried to woo a woman so he doesn't know if what he had planned for her would impress her. What kind of excuse is that? "Is that so?" Elise tried her hardest to not scoff at the King, "I saw you had vast collections of cars. You could have easily picked a car that had a seat for him, your highness" She said, crossing her arms against her chest and turning her head to look at the King. Arthur chuckled softly. She had him there, "I could have but I didn't want to," He said, glancing at her briefly, "I like you, Elise. More than you know, actually. Frankly, I just wanted to spend some time with you. Just the two of us" He continued, raising his shoulders to shrug as if he had said something casual. It is important that she knows that he is interested in her. He didn't want her to think all of his efforts to woo her are just an act of kindness by the King. From the corners of his blue eyes, he noticed that her cheeks had turned a lovely shade of pink. His fingers itched to stroke her cheeks, ever so lightly but he that urge in. He blatantly admitted that he liked her and if he does that, it will only make her feel uncomfortable. "You- you like me?" Elise asked, pointing a finger to herself as her heart hammered against her chest, "You said-" "I am not the one who likes to beat around the bush, Elise" Arthur interrupted her abruptly making her voice die in her throat. She continued to stare at him with wide eyes, almost as if she was in a daze."I like you in an intimate way. There, I said it. I am interested in you" Arthur continued, glancing at her again. It felt like her brain cells were frozen to digest that. The King likes her. He said that himself. A gasp left her lips and she looked away from him, feeling like her heart would jump out from her chest, "I am flattered but you can't your highness" She said, her tone was edgy, "We can't be together" She shook her head firmly. Arthur's heart sank, "Why?" He asked, all the traces of happiness were completely wiped off from his tone, "Do you have someone else in your mind?" He asked her. The last time when he asked her, she said she didn't fall in love with anyone yet. Did she lie? Perhaps she was too afraid to admit it to anyone? Arthur tried to ignore the sudden pang of jealousy in him as he drove the car. A dry chuckle left her lips and she shook her head, "No. I am not interested in anyone" She shook her head, "It is because of who you are, your highness" She said, "You're the King of the Werewolves. You should be mated to a she-wolf, someone who is your kind" She continued while still looking outside the window. "And who said that?" Arthur asked her challengingly, "I am the King, my people should be able to accept whatever I do. Especially when it comes to my private life" He argued. If she thinks he will give up on her that easily over an argument then she is wrong. He had waited a hundred years for her. And those days were the hardest for him. "Your people might have accepted me into their pack but it doesn't guarantee that they will accept me as their-" She paused, struggling to find the right words to say, "King's interest your, highness" She cringed at how it sounded. "That doesn't matter, Elise" Arthur shook his head. She is worried about his reputation just like how she was worried about it in the past life, "What matters to me is if you like me the same way I like you or not. So tell me, how do you feel about me?" He asked, tightening his grasp around the steering wheel again. His knuckles turned white at the pressure and it was really a miracle that the steering wheel didn't snap into two. A prominent shade of pink colored her cheeks and she tried to cover it with her hands, "Ah this is uncomfortable" She said to herself making Arthur smile. "Well?" The King pressed, wanting to hear what she thinks. Elise cleared her throat, "We only met a few days ago. I don't think the time is sufficient enough to like someone" She said, surprising herself at how calm she sounded even though on the inside, she was trembling. How he could be so blatant?! The smile in Arthur's face faltered, "You're not even attracted to me in the slightest?" He asked her, stomping on the gas pedal to go as fast as he can. Elise eyed the speedometer but didn't comment on it, "I might not a werewolf your highness. But I am a female, and you are the most attractive man I have ever seen" She admitted to him after a long internal debate, "But that is what it is, an attraction. It could never progress into a relationship if that's why you're hinting" Elise added quickly, not wanting him to misunderstand her. Arthur was relieved to hear that, "You don't know what will happen in the future, Elise" He said. It was destiny for them to be together. Elise might not know about it yet but he definitely knows that she will be his and he will be hers."It is enough for me to know that you are attracted to me. Now you should start thinking about what we should eat for lunch cause we're dining out" He said, changing the subject easily. Elise couldn't forget what he said but she exhaled sharply, somehow relieved that they wouldn't be talking about it anymore. She looked up when she felt the car slowing down, "We're going to human settlements?" She asked, her eyes widening when she saw a mall in front of them. "Yeah" Arthur nodded his head, "I heard someone opened this really nice place to play some games here," He said, a smile creeping up to his lips. "Games?" Elise parroted. "You'll see" He grinned to himself, pulling the car into a parking lot."Here, it doesn't matter if I am King or if you're a fox. Here, we blend in with humans and live like them for a short while" He said, looking up at her. Elise didn't say anything to that. She just gave him a mere nod and started to undo her seatbelt before throwing the door open to step out of the car. "Wow, this place is crowded" Elise commented, taking in the hefty amount of cars parked there. "It's Saturday. This is how humans unwind after a long week" He said, locking the car. He casually grabbed her hand and tugged her towards the main entrance of the mall. Arthur noticed that a few human males were looking at Elise with lust in their eyes and he hated the fact that he couldn't do anything to them. Werewolves are not by any means is to hurt an innocent human. It was absolutely against their law. "Do you need anything?" Arthur asked Elise to distract himself, "There is a boutique here and I heard the dresses are nice. Do you want to check it out?" He asked her, his eyes fixating on her beautiful face. Normally Elise would love to do that but today she didn't want to go there, especially with him, "Um, I am not looking for new clothes now" She said, shaking her head. Arthur could sense her discomfort, "Okay, do you mind picking a few shirts for me then?" He asked her. He wanted to wear what she likes. He watched her as she bit her lower lip in hesitation, "I guess I can do that" She agreed reluctantly, "But aren't all your items of clothing are specially made for you? Why would you shop at a mall when you have a whole team of fashion designers devoted to you?" She asked him curiously. "Well, it is nice to wear something different once in a while, don't you think?" He asked her, "Besides, you're the one who will be picking it out so it adds value to it" He added, smirking at her. Elise couldn't help but blush at that. "You have to stop that," She said, trying her hardest to sound firm so he would get the message. "Stop what?" Arthur questions her. He knew exactly what she was talking about but he just loved to mess with her like that. Elise looked at him incredulously. He must be joking or pulling her leg."Stop talking as if I am your girlfriend or something" She said, "It is really uncomfortable" She looked away from him, focusing on everything but him. First, he admits that he likes her and now he is treating her as if she is his girlfriend. Does he think that he owns this world just because he is a king? Arthur smiled to himself again. He didn't want to say anything that could possibly ruin the 'date' they are having so he pulled her towards the men's section where are the wide array of t-shirts and shirts were hung on the hangers neatly for the customers to choose. "Go on, choose a few for me," He said, pushing her forward gently. Elise slumped her shoulders before slowly lifting her eyes to the various shirts that were displayed on the racks, "I am not really good at this" She shook her head, "It might not match your taste" She reasoned, hoping she can avoid this uncomfortable situation. "I'll wear it as long as you're the one who chooses it," Arthur said, "Now quick, the sooner you choose the shirts, the sooner we will leave this place" He added, mirth and mischief dancing in his eyes. "Fine" Elise grunted but then she realized she might have sounded a little rude, "Your highness" She added quickly. Arthur frowned, "Elise, I told you to call me by my name," He said, looking to his left and right before leaning closer to her, "We're at the mall and you're calling 'your highness'. Do you want these humans to find out about our world?" He whispered with hard eyes. "Of course, not" Elise denied right away. Her eyes darted around the area and zeroed on a light pink shirt, "Oh, that's a nice shirt. I'll be back in a while, Arth- never mind" She quickly skipped towards that shirt, not wanting to waste any more time here.
