Byron wandered nervously around the living room, making certain everything was in place and looking its best. Then he checked the dining room, stopping to straighten the silverware beside one of the plates. “I’ll go crazy before he gets here.” He smiled ruefully, going back into the kitchen to take another look at the lasagna. It was gently bubbling, just as it was supposed to. As he closed the oven door, there was a knock on his front door. He started, his pulse racing, took a deep breath, and went to let Jonah in. “Smells delicious,” Jonah said while handing Byron a bottle of wine. “Thanks,” Byron replied. “For the wine and the compliment.
