Chapter 6: Trying To Find the Threat

1090 Words
Scarlets POV: As we get back to the room after dinner, I start to rack my brain on just how to find this so-called mate that is threatening everything I have worked hard to achieve. There is no way I will let some nobody just take away the years of hard work, lies, schemes, and deceit that I have done and make it all for nothing. After telling Maverick I am going to take a bath and retreating to the beautiful on-suite; Internally, I shrieked, “AHHHHHHH, this can’t be happening!!!!” Celeste: I tried to warn you ahead of time, but nooooo you never want to listen, do you? I mean, yeah, Maverick has been by your side for the last 2 years and, yes, he made promises, but think about it. Your only a Delta and Maverick is an Alpha. Do you really think that he would reject his mate, which would in turn make him weak overall. Hmm? Shut it Celeste, he made a promise to me, proposed to me, and took me all the way to the states to inform his uptight father there is no way I was going to allow him to just walk away and postpone everything. The invitations have already been sent and RSVPs are coming in. I just have to find out who this little good for nothing b***h is that thinks she can just waltz in and take what I, not her, I have worked so hard for. Time to start investigating, but first let me make myself irresistible that he will forget about her for tonight at least….. Auroras POV: After Maverick left my office, which by the way, was extremely difficult not to look up from my computer and admire his chiseled and defined facial features, and don’t get me started on the way his suit just seemed to be made specifically for him. I know the mate bond is something sacred, but he has made his choice in this life and so have I. To focus on my career and hopefully find a man or now a second chance mate, even if they are rare to come by, to start a life with. A knock sounds on my door and as it slowly opens Missy sticks her head inside, “Aurora, are you okay?” Yes Missy, I’m okay for now at least. What am I going to do, Missy? I never intended on finding my mate. I mean I just started my career here and now that I have gotten into the swing of things, yeah, it would be nice to have someone to come home to, but Maverick of all people. Yes, we grew up together but we both have changed, and I am not sure he has changed for the better. Well, if you ask me Aurora, I think maybe, just maybe you should give him a chance to show you just the type of man he is or has changed into. All we both know is what the tabloids have shared, and we both know how reliable they can be. I guess you’re right Missy, maybe I was too quick to judge. However, there is still one small problem; his fiancée. Welp enough about Maverick and my so-called Goddess-given mate, let’s tackle these spreadsheets so we can at least get out of here on time today. Scarlett’s POV: While taking a luxurious gardenia and peach blossom scented bubble bath in the marble stand-alone bathtub that was sized perfectly for Maverick and I to be in together (which should have been where we both were right now), I began to think. How can I find this needle in a haystack in an office building? There is no way that his mate is the oversized Hepher that came to drop some files off, or could it be. Celeste: More than likely, Scarlett, did you not feel how Maverick tensed up when she walked into the office? I mean there are no clearer signs. It was the same with you when you found yours, even though you had no respect for our gift, hmph. Celeste, not now. I am trying to think of how to find her and eliminate her from ever seeing Maverick again. Okay. I mean you are not completely wrong. I did feel how he tensed up and then suddenly wanted to speak to his father about a few additional items, so he said. Hmmmmm, it must be so just how can we get rid of her. I got it! I am going to invite her to lunch and just see how much of a threat she may be. That is to say she isn’t already taken and wants to reject him first. Hahaha, that would be hilarious, since he now wants to think things through, and she were to reject him first, it would be perfect, to say the least. Then I will be the one here with the shoulder for him to cry on and to pick up the pieces of his shattered heart. Then we will get married, and I can work on taking over control of the company once and for all. I think as I laugh to myself and sink back into the glorious warm water to relax. Auroras POV: Missy and I had just finished all the spreadsheets that were due by the end of the day, and we were walking out of Xanders Financials office building when Missy looks at me and says, “You know what? Let’s go out and celebrate. I mean it is Friday evening and we just got done with all the spreadsheets to start next week off fresh, and we or you could rather really use a girl’s night out. What do you say, Aurora? I thought about it a moment... Did, I really want to go out tonight after finding my mate, but he is off at a hotel with currently. His fiancée. What the hell I said to Missy? Yes, let’s do it. I could use a night to let my hair down for once and you never know I might find mister right out there that is not already attached. Laughing, Missy said," That’s my girl, so my place or yours. Where should we leave? Let’s plan on leaving mine, it’s closer to the nightlife. Anyway, and you can just spend the night afterwards at my place. I do have a spare room after all. Sounds great and looks like my uber is right on time, Missy says.
