Chapter 1 I Think You've Mistaken Me for Someone Else
As soon as Teresa Haze opened the door, she was stunned by what she saw. The house was in a mess, as if there was an earthquake not long ago.
Several men in black had their backs on Teresa and cornered Elva Dern, a petite and fragile girl, in a threatening manner.
"Hey!" Teresa immediately dropped the cake before she rushed in and shouted at them, "Who are you people?"
"Teresa!"
Elva staggered and threw herself into Teresa's arms, trembling and crying, "They were here for Jasper..."
Teresa was surprised as she looked around at those men in black and asked, "What's going on with Jasper?"
One of the men in black said coldly, "He stole an important file from us and disappeared."
Teresa retorted angrily, "Then you guys should go and look for him. What the hell is this about? She's just a girl! Pick on someone your own size, bastard!"
The man in black snorted coldly, "Yes, we are looking for him NOW."
Elva shook her head with tears in her eyes, "Jasper went to work in the morning, and he didn't come back. I don't know what he did or where he went..."
Teresa gently patted her on her back, then turned to glare at the man, "Do you hear? She doesn't know!"
As soon as Teresa finished speaking, she actually heard a click.
Just as she subconsciously wondered what that sound came from, the next moment, she saw the vase not far shattered with a loud bang!
The debris shot across her cheek, making her feel a sharp pain.
It was a gun!
Teresa understood and looked in the direction of the fire in horror.
Teresa didn't notice that there was still a man sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed in the living room. He sat expressionless with an indifferent and cold look on his face.
And the gun in his hand was aimed at her at that moment.
Teresa froze, not daring to move again.
"You're too noisy."
The man had a straight nose and thin lips. His deep-set emotionless eyes stared at her, making her feel like she was being targeted by a predator. His chiseled face, combined with his attractive facial features, made him a stunningly handsome man.
Judging from the vibe he had, he must be a successful and powerful man with tremendous means. People who faced him would only bow down at his feet.
However, the words that came out between his beautiful lips were unexpectedly gruesome.
"Since both of you don't know his whereabouts, it makes you useless to me."
The man coldly pointed the gun at Teresa and Elva and ordered, "Take them out and kill them."
Teresa's mind went blank.
She could tell that this crazy man was not joking.
A man in black came over and started pulling them. Elva was so frightened that she collapsed on the floor and failed to struggle.
But Teresa didn't. She tried her best to think of a way to get them out of this chaotic puzzling situation.
"Wait! How much is that file worth? I can pay you back!"
She was talking to that mysterious man.
Unfortunately, the man didn't look up at her, as if he hadn't heard it.
He put away the gun and casually took out a cigar from a cigar box. He lit it up, drawing heavily on his cigar, and puffed out a cloud of smoke.
But the man in black who held Teresa sneered, "Money? Mr. Brolin doesn’t want money."
Mr. Brolin?
It sounded quite familiar to Teresa, but she was too nervous to think through it now.
Seeing that they were pulling Elva's arm, Teresa thought of something and she hurriedly shouted, "You want Jasper, right? She is Jasper's only sister. If you leave her here, Jasper may come back!"
Teresa stared at this Mr. Brolin and swallowed nervously, hoping that her words would make a difference. "But if you kill her, Jasper will never come back. He may sell the file or go to the media. Mr. Brolin, you don't want to see it happen, do you?!"
Hearing this, the man finally laid his gaze on her, "Wait."
His cold voice stopped all the men in black.
Mr. Brolin stared at her with a fierce look in his emotionless eyes, "Are you threatening me?"
Teresa swallowed in horror, "No, I... I’m just guessing..."
The man didn't speak anymore. He took a puff and blew a ring of smoke. Through the misty smoke, he squinted at Teresa coldly.
This woman had a pretty face, but she looked so fragile that she was not aggressive at all. She was supposed to be doted and loved on, yet she stood firmly there, protecting another girl and struggling to survive.
It was so rare to see someone having courage and composure when they confronted him, which surprised him and aroused his interest.
Suddenly, a woman's image came to his mind and perfectly overlapped with the person in front of him.
A fierce look came into his eyes instantly. He put out the cigar and stepped toward Teresa before he rudely picked up her collar and dragged her into the bedroom.
Then, he slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
Before Teresa could react, she was thrown to the ground.
She exclaimed in pain and rubbed her arm, and then she saw a pair of shiny black leather shoes standing in front of her.
Looking up, she saw him looking down at her with a sullen face.
"Do you know that I've been looking for you for a long time?"
Teresa was terrified and dazed, aware of the great danger that was coming, "I don't know you..."
The man crouched down and took out the gun again. He raised her jaw forcefully and said coldly, "That's not what you said when you tried to climb to my bed five years ago."
Teresa shivered and couldn't help but keep staring at the gun for fear he would pull the trigger.
"I think you've mistaken me for someone else, Mr. Brolin! I was still a student five years ago!"
"I don't have time for this." He expressed his impatience with the action of loading his gun, "Any last words?"
Teresa, who was in a desperate situation, was terrified, but she was also angry at his arrogance and arbitrariness.
"What do you want me to say? I have no idea what you are talking about at all! If I really did whatever I have done to you, how come I didn't recognize you?!"
The man's face darkened at her retort, and he pulled the trigger without hesitation.
"Ah!" Teresa covered her head in fright, trembling all over. The loud bang was so close that she felt she was almost deafened.
She didn't feel pain at all, which surprised her a bit.
When she looked up, she realized that the bullet did not hit her but was shot into the mattress next to her.
She turned to look at this Mr. Brolin and found that he had tossed the gun aside and gave her a look of mockery and disgust.
"Real class act. Even a gun can't make you tell the truth."
He picked her up and threw her on the bed, and then he pressed down on top of her and said fiercely, "Let me see how much longer you can last."
"What are you doing?!" Teresa was alert instantly.
But her stiff resistance was useless to the absolute strength of this man.
Finally, she was stuck on the bed with both of her wrists locked by the man's hand.
He then began to unbutton her shirt and said coldly as he stared at her, "What do you think I am going to do?"
