Amber's POV
I watched Maya train with Athens in amazement. Never had I seen such a fast-moving session. Watching Mortou and Joe, was a sight to see as well. Both men are as big as mountains going at each other like leviathans. It was nothing I had ever witnessed before.
"Amber, would you like to see your friend?" Jewel Maya's daughter asked me.
"My friend?" I turned a curious eye on her as I held Ronan on my hip.
"The stallion," Jewel's smile was bright. Her brown eyes danced with eagerness.
"Oh," my eyes got wide realizing that she was talking about the wild one we had saved a few years back. "He is still here?" My surprise lacing my words.
"Of course, my mom gave him a few more mares too." Jewel smiled.
"Hawk, I am. going with Jewel a moment." I said over my shoulder as Ronan and I fell in step behind Jewel.
We walked to a spot near the barn that had An old golf cart parked near. "Jump in," Jewel said as she slid into the driver's seat.
Backing out, we drove around the backside of the barn. Following a well-worn path to a spot that had a shed, a huge tank of water, and some container with hay.
Jewel whistled and then we waited. The ground started to vibrate, making me nervous. The sound of a distant horse squealing in delight could be heard as the rumble got louder. cresting the hill in the distance was my stallion friend in all his glory. Still in his prime, black and white coat shining brightly in the desert sun. He surged to the front breaking away from the rest of the moms and babies. He pumped his legs faster as he came up the hill to us. Skidding to a stop he snorted as he eyed Ronan. I handed him to Jewel, walking to the stallion with my hand outstretched. "Hello, friend." I smiled at him.
The stallion eyed Jewel holding Ronan, as he snorted their way. "Hello," he took his nose to bump my palm.
"I am happy to see you are free still." I smiled.
"Thank you, is that your foal?" He tossed his head toward Ronan.
"He is." I smiled. "I see you picked up more mares," I giggled.
"Yes, the woman Maya sent them out to me." He puffed a little.
"I am happy to see you with a big herd." I grinned. "And still free." I stroked his soft muzzle.
"Still free." He shook his head. He nickered, the latte-colored mare I remembered being with him came forward out of his herd. She was very pregnant-looking. The mare nuzzled me. "Hello," she cooed as she rubbed her soft nose on me. I stroked her forehead placing mine to hers. "I am. so glad you guys are safe from those men." I smiled.
"We need to get back if we are to make it on time to training." Jewel shifted Ronan in her arms who had been quietly watching everything.
"I must get back to my training," I sighed stroking both of them letting them feel my love.
"We will see you again," The stallion brushed against me.
"Say hi to our son," the mare turned to filter back into the herd of colors
"Your son?" I glanced around looking for him.
"He is with Maya at the barn, he wanted to help you." The stallion spoke as he took the mares closer to the water trough.
I looked back at Jewel, "Where did the foal go that came with them?" I asked taking Ronan back into my arms.
"He asked Tvso to come to the barn. He wanted to be your riding horse." There was an odd look to her. "You speak to them?" She titled her head to the side to ask.
"I do one of the gifts of being a part dragon," I grinned.
"You have dragon in you!" She squealed with a mini happy dance.
I shook my head and settled back into the cart. Jewel raced around the other side and jumped in as she started it up.
***********
Back at the morning training, I handed Ronan to Jewel as she settled down with him under one of their trees nearby. Hawk, strolled toward me as my stomach danced every time I watched him walk with a sword in hand. "I see that look Ma Chàñte," his voice low and husky. "Later," he kissed my cheek.
Walking over to Athens and Maya I stood, "Ready to learn." I grinned, as excitement bubbled inside of me.
"Today, we will check your form and test out your style," Athens spoke smoothly and clearly.
Athens handed me a stick the same length as my sword. I noticed Maya had the same. She readied in position and so did I. "Go!" Athens yelled.
I watched Maya move as my senses adapted to her speed. We countered each other every time our sticks met we backed up to eye one another. A grin formed on Maya, as she lunged again. I countered. We were locked together face to face. "You are very good!" huffed Maya between breaths.
"Thank you," I panted. "You are great as well." I grinned.
We backed up, both of us smiling at each other. We went at each other again, this time locking on again as we were closer to Athens. I swung her, she let go as she launched a surprise attack on Athens. I followed her. Maya was laughing as she lunged and I followed with major giggles.
"What the hell is this?" Athens's words are loud and shocked as he backed up to our advance.
"You said I should practice attacking a random!" Her words filled with delight. "I have back up too!" There utter joy in her words.
Athens disappeared. Reappearing behind her and next to me. Yanking both of the sticks out of our hands. "Both of you do not get sticks now and both of you have to run two laps around the training grounds!" His words stern but you could hear the amusement.
"Two laps!" Maya groaned.
"Your lucky only two! The fact you tried I have let you off with just a two-lap warning." His face stern though his lips were tipped up holding back a smile. "Now go!" His command sending us both into a run.
