A soft whistle from the door made Kendy turn her head to look away from the mirror in front of her where she had been putting on her make-up for the evening. She smiled as she look at her brother, dressed up handsomely in a dark blue tux.
“Wow! Look at you! All dressed up. Who would have thought you’d clean up so good like that? I’ll have the most handsome partner at the do tonight.” At 1.85 meters, he was just a little over her exact 6 feet, and his light brown hair with those dark blue eyes was quite a combination to make any girls heart flutter.
Her sarcasm had the desired effect, making him chuckle as he stepped up behind her to pull up her zip, lifting her dark auburn-brown curls that reached almost to her waist, out of the way to be able to do so. “You don’t clean up half bad yourself, sis. No, that came out wrong, you look amazing!”
“You only say that because your my brother and it’s your job.” Turning away from him as she spoke, Kendy walked over to the closet to put her short-heeled, dark green evening shoes on, shaking her head in regret as she did so. She hated wearing small heeled shoes, preferring no shoes, or high heeled if she had to choose. However with her height, she could rarely find a man who could dance with her when she did, so sticking to smaller heels was easier.
Rudi’s eyes followed her. In a black, tight fitting dress that reached to her ankles but a slip that showed more leg than what most girls got blessed with and the see-through lace for sleeves, exposing the cream-colored skin of her shoulders and arms, Kendy was truly a vision. Even as her brother he could appreciate how truly beautiful she was.
As if reading his thoughts, Kendy continued. “It’s time you get yourself a girl. Anyone that catches your eye will be lucky to have you, you know.”
“You’re starting to sound like mum. Not that anyone will care tonight as long as their perfect daughter is there.”
His voice was dry, but Kendy knew her brother to well. It wasn’t that their parents loved her more, it was just that, with her abilities, they tend to be more protective of her than him. And, just like it was difficult for her growing up as the only girl between boys, it was difficult for him being the only one NOT a sup. “Ruds...”
Stepping up behind her, he softly put her chosen emerald necklace on that matched her eyes and complimented her shoes. “Na, just leave it for tonight sis. I’m a lucky bastard to have to most beautiful girl on my side and that’s all I need to make me happy.”
The entrance of Ilona put an end to their discussion at the moment. She had borrowed one of Kendy’s shorter cocktail dresses of light blue and white. It was a typical teenager dress and fit the girl perfectly. Shaking his head, Rudi spoke ruefully. “Between the two of you, you will leave quite a few broken heart tonight if we’re not careful. But if you are both done, we should go.”
The younger, less experienced girl blushed at his words, casting a quick, uncertain look towards Kendy who gave her a reassuring smile before walking towards the front door. She didn’t bother to lock up, she had other ways of protecting her little place and anyway, with Mystique there, no sane person would try to enter.
She let Ilona slip into the bakkie first, before sliding in next to her. Rudi was doing the driving as Kendy didn’t have a car. She rarely drove and therefor didn’t own a car. Rudi could easily have owned a better car than this one, but like most things as with her, he preferred not to use their stepfather’s money but to rather earn his own. As a final year in Electronic Engineering, he already had his own side business where he was earning some money of in between schooling, but it was different from what their parents had envisioned for them both.
The car ride wasn’t silent for long. As always, Ilona couldn’t see the reason for silence and in moments was chatting away in a combination of both Icelandic and English until Rudi switched on the radio. She then quickly joined the music, making up her own lyrics as she went, making Kendy smile in fascination at the strange girl who had so unceremoniously joined her life.
It wasn’t long before the three of them pulled up in front of her parent’s house. They had used the sea-shore road, making the drive shorter than the one through the forest their mum had used so many, many years ago when they had first traveled this way. She had just reached towards the handle to open when the door was opened from outside by another figure.
“Daniel!” For a moment Kendy could only stare in surprise at their father’s twin who had appeared as if out of thin air.
The older man was also dressed in a tux like Rudi (who in the interim had walked over to stand next to his sister) and was smiling at Kendy. He was huge and literally towered over both of them as he stuck his hand out towards Rudi to shake. “Hey, my girl, didn’t think I’ll miss my own birthday party now did you?!”
“The party’s for my birthday, not yours Dan, in case you missed that. Anyway, you didn’t respond to Sheara’s invite, so no one was sure if you will come or not.” Her father’s dry tone left no space for argument as he too stepped towards them. Even at almost 200 years old, the two men were so close in resemblance it was hard to tell them apart. Kendy was probably one of the few who could, having spent months in a cell with Daniel years ago, she knew that where Darius’s eyes turned gold for his dragon, Daniel’s turned black. She suspected the only other person to know who was who, was her mother.
Walking over to her father, she gave him a kiss on the cheek before whispering “Happy birthday, Daddy.”
“I see you brought your friend?”
“O yes, Dad, this is Ilona. Ilona this is my father, Darius and his brother, Daniel. Dad, I invited Ilona. I thought Deme and her, well, they could have a good time, while we did whatever Mum has planned.”
“And who said your mum didn’t have plans for her youngest son too?” Sheara’s voice was a bit further off, and Kendy walked over to her, pulling Ilona behind her to start the introductions, leaving Rudi and the two older men to their devices.
As Kendy had predicted, Ilona was quickly swallowed up in her younger brother’s friend circle, consisting mainly of wolves and including Aria’s daughter, Adrea. That left her to her own devices, she hated parties and she was just contemplating slipping off to the beach for some alone time after a long chat to Aria about healing. Getting up from the chair, she bend forward to retrieve her purse that had fallen from the chair, she suddenly became aware of a presence that radiated power and fury.
In a second her body was surrounded in a purple light of protection as she turned around to meet whatever the threat was, head on. Instead of a murderer that she had expected, however a very told and very handsome, dark haired man stood with eyes that was flashing in gold and flecks of red flames. Not only was his eyes clearly showing how close he was to shifting right then and there, but his hand was literally shaking when he grabbed hold of her upper arm in a grip that would leave marks later.
Forcing her to walk next to her, he almost dragged her out of the house. No one else had seemed to have noticed anything, but Kendy didn’t want to make a seen. So she waited till she was just out of earshot of the house before speaking.
“What the HELL do you think you are doing?!”
“I should think it is VERY clear what I am doing! How dare you?!” The voice of the man in front of her was filled with anger and she could sense with her powers how close he was to losing absolute control. But she didn’t care, not tonight anyway. She was at her parents’ house for damn sake!
“No, how dare YOU, Aakesh?! How dare you just waltz in here after all this time and then pull me out of my parents’ house like that? How dare you even show up here after everything?!”
“How dare you dress like a fuckin w***e?! How dare you show your body off like that! You should be ashamed of yourself!”
In a flash of movement, she raised her hand, but before the hand could reach his face, another wrapped around the wrist, pulling it down, pulling her closer. For a moment she could just stare at him. Where his hands touched her arms, sparks filled her and as his lose arm wrapped around her, pulling her in, her body touched his and every touched ignited something inside her. Something that had been suppressed and left untouched for too long. As their eyes met, she knew what was going to happen and even then she tried to avoid it, turning her face way.
But Aakesh would have none of that, and in another of his lightning fast movements, his hand wrapped in her long dark curls, forcing her to look at him. The moment their lips met; her resistance crumbled. All her ideals, all her thoughts of not giving in, was lost as her mouth opened without thought to have his tongue enter and taught hers.
