"Just how...? Why? How an Earth did I end up engaged with this moron?!" - I thought while I curtsied and held Barak's hand to open the ball with our dance. My eyes lingered at the Prince of my dreams over his shoulder and couldn't comprehend how did everything got f****d up so much is such a short time. Barak's touch felt so uncomfortable that I couldn't focus properly on dancing. I wanted to get rid of him and escape, so I did what a lady must do in a situation like this. I've tried to elegantly stomp on his feet. Barak grinned and spun me around to the rhythm of the music.
- Nice try Lady Blackwell!-he said mockingly and he tried to stomp me, but I avoided his clumsy footwork.
- Is this all that you've got, Lord Wolfie? - Barak smiled mischievously and the rest of the dance went on trying to stomp on each other's feet. By the end of the song, Barak managed to knock one of my foot from under me and I felt that I'll fall if he doesn't catch me. In his eyes I saw that there was not a single nerve in his body that wanted to catch me.
- What would the Princess think about your dancing skills if you let me fall now?! - I've asked between my teeth and before my body touched the ground I heard a loud applause. I've opened my eyes, that I shut previously preparing for the pain, and saw Barak's grey stare.
- Crafty witch. - he said and pulled me back on my feet. My heart bumped in my chest and I wanted to hit him so much! We bowed and headed towards our assigned roles. I went to Princess Amelia's side while Barak joined Prince Arthur.
- Nara! - Amelia greeted me in a friendly manner and I've nodded politely, bowing a bit.
- Happy birthday your Highness! - Amelia pouted and crossed her arms around her chest. I could somehow understand Barak's obsession with Amelia. She had a very curvy body, with voluptuous chest and thin waist. Her hair looked like cashmere and her eyes shined like sapphires.
- Stop being so formal Nara! No one else is near right now! - as soon as she said this many noble ladies approached her greeting happy birthday to the Princess. When no one noticed Amelia looked at me annoyed and I shrugged mouthing "I told you so". Since I know my mind, as the daughter of Blackwell it was duty to provide company to the Princess and if needed to protect her even if it would cost my own life. The same went to Barak towards Arthur. This was the only reason we had any kind of relationship with each other. Our mutual duty. When Amelia finally escaped from the ring of noble ladies she asked excitedly.
- What do you think about your engagement?! Isn't it exciting?! - I sighed.
- I'd rather say surprising. I haven't expected this decision from his Highness's part. - Amelia smiled playfully and we heard the butler announcing that the chef is about to bring the cake. I've accompanied Amelia to the cake, Barak and Arthur were already there. I bowed to Arthur and wished a happy birthday, while Barak kissed the hand of Amelia with impeccable manners. I could see the pain in his eyes when he had to release her hand. They cut the cake and the party continued till dawn. When it became too overwhelming, I went to one of the balconies to get some fresh air. I was watching the kingdom and the lights of thousands of houses. Enjoyed the peace and silence while I took a sip of my champagne. I looked at the bubbles and tried to find a way out of this misery when I heard his voice.
- I can't believe this... You are everywhere. - I sent the remaining champagne down and turned towards Barak.
- Excuse me? You are the one interrupting my peace with your useless mumbling! - he scoffed.
- As if I wanted to share the same air as you do! - I saw some people gathering behind Barak, they smiled and thought we had a little private meeting between lovers.
- Lower your voice would you? People are staring! - I said with a sweet smile batting my eyelashes at him.
- Why are you pretending to be a fine noble woman? I've seen you skin a rabbit! - he said and I grabbed his arm, pulling him further from the door.
- Hands off! - he said and when people couldn't see us, I released him. I took off my gloves and set them on fire with a pocket match I had in my purse.
- WHAT ARE YOU DOING? - he asked and watched as the clothing disappeared into thin air.
- Shut the f**k up! I'm trying to think a way out of this!
- Easy, we just tell our parents that we don't want to marry each other. - he said leaning against the railing of the balcony. I felt my eyes widening at him. "Is he seriously an i***t?!"
- Were you perhaps hit on your head too many times already? Haven't you seen their happy faces! Also, it was what the Emperor said! It's like an order! If it was up to us they would have asked our opinions don't you think? - he groaned.
- I hate to admit this, but for once since you were born, you are right. - "Don't hit him, don't hit him, don't hit him..." - I thought and noticed the match which was still in my hand. -" f**k! Don't set him on fire don't sent him on fire don't set him on fire!!!!"
- What are you thinking about? You have a very disturbing smile on your face. - Barak said and I took a deep breath.
- I'm chasing murderous thoughts away. - I said and he chuckled.
- So you were also thinking about throwing me over the rails? - he asked and I laughed.
- No, I'm more sophisticated, I wanted to set you on fire! - Barak grinned and pulled his sword.
- What makes you think you would be able to touch me? - he asked and I smiled sweetly.
- What makes you think you can lay a finger on me? - Barak grinned and put his sword away. I sighed.
- Why do I have to be satisfied with you? - Barak scoffed and looked at me from head to toe.
- Are you complaining? Look at yourself!
- What's wrong with me?! I'm a beautiful and fine lady!
-Yeah, well, you have a pretty face that's true, but despite that. You look like an ironing board, and you are crazy with those inventions! For the love of God your whole family is made out of freaks! - I grabbed something from my purse and pointed at Barak.
- I dare you to repeat what you just said! - Barak looked at the pen in my hand and took a step towards me saying mockingly.
- A bunch of freaks! - I clicked the pen and it got longer, hitting Barak right into his stomach. He grunted and leaned forward holding his stomach.
- What the hell?! - I put the pen away and offered a hand.
- You seem unwell Lord Wolfie, do you need a hand? - he looked at my extended hand with fury and if we wouldn't hear Arthur's voice coming from the ballroom, I swear he would've bit my hand. But this way he just took it before the royal kids found us. Amelia had a cheeky grin on her face seeing us holding hands and Arthur smiled with content.
