Chapter Twenty

Amelia's Point of View "Luna Amelia, I'm so sorry if I interrupted something." Trudy said to me apologetically. "You weren't to know Trudy." I replied kindly. In fact, I couldn't even be sure that she had interrupted something. I wasn't honestly sure what would have happened next. I really needed to get some rest. Everything confused me. She beamed at me in relief. "I have prepared your guest room. I hope it is to your liking." Her smile relaxed me. I was worried I had offended her earlier. If I had, it looked like she had forgiven me already. "I'm sure it will be perfect. Lead the way and I'll follow you." "Ok, we're just going to the top of the stairs and then we'll take the elevator to the fourth floor." "Fourth?" There were four floors to this place? Why would anyone need so much space? "Yes Ma'am. The fourth floor is where the Alpha resides. The third floor is occupied by the Beta and his mate and by our Gamma Nathan." I caught something in her voice when she said his name. Perhaps she had a bit of a soft spot for him. Or maybe they were mated. "The second floor holds our guest rooms and conference room. Below ground there is a pool, a gym, a boxing ring. I think Raya is planning on giving you a tour a little later." Wait, so only four people occupied this place? Five if you included myself. Extravigent! "So where do you live?" I asked, curiously, as we started to make our way up the stairs. Trudy was taking her time, which I was incredibly grateful for. My body was incredibly exhausted. Putting one foot in front of the other had started to become more of a challenge than I was used to. "We have serving quarters just a few minutes' walk away from here." She sounded happy with what she had. "Good grief! This whole place must be ginormous." "The pack house lies within one hundred acres of land," she explained. My brain struggled to visualize how that would look in size. One hundred football fields maybe? I shook my head from side to side to try and clear the fog. I stumbled as I became light-headed. "Are you ok, Luna?" Trudy asked, trying to steady me on my feet. Her voice sounded miles away. "I think maybe I just need to lie down for a while." I reached out for the handrail but missed it completely. Trudy grabbed the front of my shirt to stop me falling backwards. The force she used to stop me falling backwards pulled her off balance and we both fell forward. My head slammed into the stairs with an alarming c***k. Ow! "Oh my Goddess!!" Screamed Trudy, her voice filled with panic. "Gamma Nathan." She yelled. "I'm ok, Trudy, I'm ok." I slurred, sounding anything but. "Luna!" Nathan shot up the stairs like a rocket. By the time he'd finished speaking the word, he'd already picked me up off of the stairs and gathered me in his arms. Although I couldn't feel much, it did not escape my attention that Nathan was shirtless. It made me feel uncomfortable to be that close to him. "Trudy, what the hell happened?" Nathan barked. "Alpha Peyton is going to lose his s**t! She's only been here five minutes and she's already bleeding." Trudy started to stammer out an explanation. "She was just really unsteady on her feet, sir, she almost fell backwards. I managed to catch hold of her and tug her forward, but I'm not very strong." I understood the frustration in her voice. Trudy was innocent in all of this. Thanks to her, my injuries were only minimal. NAthan should be thanking her, not chastising her. I wanted very much to open my mouth and tell him what a hero Trudy was, but nothing came out. I was so tired. "Right, let's get her upstairs." Nathan decided, jumping up from his squatting position with me in his arms. The movement was so fluid it didn't even jostle me. "Shouldn't she go to the hospital?" Trudy asked worriedly. "No. Of course not!" Nathan told her in no uncertain terms. "The Alpha is there. Her wolf will be able to take care of this in no time at all." 'I'm trying my best,' Vae called, disheartened. 'But I don't have much energy to work with. We've not eaten for a while' "Come on," Nathan beckoned to Trudy. "I'm really not sure..." Nathan let out a growl. "I am your superior, and I am giving you an order. Help me get her into the elevator or, so help me goddess, you will be punished for this." 'What a charming bloke he is! Hard to imagine why he hasn't found a mate yet!' I might have been losing consciousness, but one thing was still crystal clear. I didn't want to go anywhere with a male wolf by myself. Nathan was holding me very close to his chest but my left arm was hanging free. Using the last reserves of my strength, I reached towards Trudy's arm and gave it a gentle squeeze. She looked at me helplessly. I nodded and gave her a weak smile. "Yes Gamma," She bowed her head and scuttled off in front of us. "Honestly, Luna," Nathan said gently. "Are you trying to get us shot?" He looked down at me and smiled. This whole Luna thing was starting to get out of hand. Especially if it meant that someone like Trudy got into trouble just because I couldn't walk in a straight line. I heard Trudy push the call button on the elevator. Thank the Moon Goddess! I didn't care where I was going, as long as I could lie down when I got there. An unexpected and furious roar erupted out of nowhere, causing all the windows to shake in their frames and the skylight to rattle. The sound was so thunderous it caused my teeth to clash together. A c***k formed in the wall to the side of me. Jesus Christ I had never heard anything so visceral in my life. "Damn." Muttered Nathan, as a force greater than a hurricane ripped me from out of his arms. "WHAT THE f**k IS GOING ON HERE?" Peyton bellowed with a voice drenched in violence. "She fell Alpha." Nathan said. His voice lacked the confidence it previously held. It looked like Trudy wasn't the only one that was going to get a bollocking today. "You touch her again Nathan and I'll f*****g kill you." The volume had drained from his voice. And yet he sounded more deadly than he had. He stepped into the elevator as Trudy followed. "It's ok my love," he told me as he buried his nose in my hair. I felt him kiss the top of my head right before I passed out.
