Chapter Two

949 Words
Amelia's Point of View I shook my head from side to side, trying to herd my thoughts into a sensible direction, but it just wasn't happening. My feet were glued to the floor and I couldn't do anything except stare at this God-like creature. To make matters worse, Vay was acting more crazy than I was. Neither of us had ever seen a young male wolf, but I couldn't understand how that would lead to us displaying such random behavior. And through all of this time, Mr Fantastic was looking at me with such intensity, it made my stomach flip over and my mouth go dry. I wondered how he had the strength to stand there given how wounded he was. As if he could hear my thoughts, he suddenly pitched forward and crashed into one of the dining tables. The table collapsed beneath him, and he fell to the floor in a mass of deep cuts and broken bones. Seeing this man so broken really unsettled both myself and my wolf. Before I even had time to think about what I was doing, I let out the mother of all screams before throwing myself on my knees next to his almost lifeless body. The swing door from the kitchen smashed against the wall but after a few seconds my Mom hadn’t appeared. I looked over my shoulder and saw her pressed against the counter. She looked like she was trying to retreat into the woodwork. “Mom! Do something!” I yelled, despite the fact that I’d already ruined my voice with my earlier screaming fit. My Mom said nothing. Her head was shaking from side to side in some kind of denial. “I-I can’t.” She stuttered. The look on her face was one of complete horror. I caught a glimpse of recognition fly across her features, but it was gone in a blink of an eye. "He's one of us." she said quietly. Well, it didn’t take a genius to figure that out! His bare feet and lack of clothing was a dead give away. “So?” I screeched, putting more strain on my voice. “Surely that will make it easier to heal him?” My Mom had been given a gift by the Moon Goddess. She had magic in her fingertips. As long as your heart was still pumping the blood around your body, she could save your life. A gift that she used freely on anyone that needed it. Except, it appeared, on the man that needed it most. 'Do not let him die, Amelia! Do NOT let him die!' Vay shrieked from the corners of my mind. She sounded absolutely wrecked. She was completely terrified. I could hear her teeth chattering together from the shock of seeing this man hurt so badly. “We don’t know who he is...” My Mom was wringing her hands together with indecision. I had no idea why that would make a difference either way, but I didn't have the time to argue the point. “Please Mom!” I begged her. “He’s a young man. Surely he deserves to live?” She started rubbing her temples. That small action was all it took for me to totally lose my cool! I started to growl loudly. “Jesus Christ Mom!!” I snarled, snapping my teeth together. As soon as the words left my lips, I clamped my hand across my mouth. I had never done that to her before. Much less over a total stranger, but I couldn't control the rage in my body that was coming from my wolf. I could feel my claws starting to grow out of my fingertips. 'Vay, you need to get a handle on yourself, or we'll end up hurting the one person that can save him!' “Alright! Alright!" My mother seemed to have sprung back to life. "But you need to go out into the kitchen and out of the back door. As soon as you hit the treeline you RUN, do you hear me? Once I’m done and everything is safe. I’ll mind-link.” “I’m not going to leave-” My mother put up a hand to silence my protest. Which was probably a good thing because I wasn’t sure if I would have finished that sentence with the word "you" or "him." What the hell? “Do as you're told, Amilea!” She snapped. “Or I’ll leave him to die.” I looked at her aghast with my mouth hanging open. Surely she wouldn’t do that. My Mom was breathing hard. How could she be so angry at me for wanting to save the life of one of our own kind? “Amelia?” My name sounded sublime when it came off of his tongue. I twisted myself away from my mother towards the whisper that had come from the dying wolf. His eyelids fluttered open, revealing a pair of arctic-blue eyes that took my breath away. I felt tears dripping from my chin. I wanted to know this guy's name so badly, but before I could ask, I was roughly shoved to the side. “GO!” My mother roared at me. Her eyes were black, glittering dangerously. I looked at the man on the ground and was astounded when I saw him nod his head before closing his eyes. “Last chance.” My Mom said in a cool voice. “Leave now or he’ll bleed out.” It took everything I had to turn away from him, but I did. And it’s the biggest regret of my life so far. I didn't see either of them again.
