Inspiration is one thing and you can't control it, but hard work is what keeps the ship moving. Good luck means, working hard. Keep up the good work- Kevin Eubanks
Noah's pov
BRRRRRRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGGGG.
I rolled onto my side, using my left hand to smash the button at the top of the alarm clock. The sound is utterly dreadful, and it almost rendered me deaf. As a force of habit, I had woken up two hours before the wretched thing blared to life. My eyes drifted to the white letters, I could see just how early it was.
Three am, it read. Why am I always up by this time? I asked myself. I’m meeting up with Kaiden's most skilled omega today, we were supposed to meet up the day before but she canceled, said something about a cramp in her legs. I didn’t mind, it gave me time to pack up my stuff from the hotel, locate my new home and settle in.
Thankfully, it’s a furnished duplex with eight bedrooms, two living rooms, one large kitchen, and a soundproof basement- for private operations. I ran a hand through my hair. I’m going to spend hours with a woman I don’t even know.
This is should be interesting.
Speaking of women, my mind ran back to the only woman that had been on my mind since we f****d. Alexandria, damn. A lovely name for a sexy omega. I would love to meet her again. I know she only agreed to one night, but she tasted so good, I just have to hit it twice.
My c**k twitched, coming to life as more thoughts of our copulation flooded my mind. She was beautiful, her skin glowed under the moon’s gaze.
And her p***y, s**t. I've f****d a lot of women in my life, but I haven’t had anyone quite like her. She knew what she wanted, and she wasn’t ashamed of it. She was confident in her movements, and most certainly not easy to command which I admire so much.
But she was also obedient to my commands.
She struck me as a woman an alpha would have to fight to mark, but I'm up for a challenge. Get your head out of your d**k, Noah. You're here for a job, not to fool around with a woman you might not even see again. A voice in my head reprimanded, setting me straight.
I looked down at my morning wood, the temptation to jackoff ebbed at my skin but I refuted it. I should distract myself with some work, I'm expecting that troubling omega by eleven. This means I have time to go for a run, refresh myself and read up on the case.
I should’ve memorized the road to her house or at least what the house looked like. I flung the covers to the side and hopped to my feet. There's no way I could take notes of her address, she’s supposed to be a one-night stand, that would’ve been creepy. But also, when I left, my brain wasn’t working. I had f****d a dark-skinned goddess with unruly grey hair, and I had cleaned up the mess we made by her door, and her- place I shouldn’t be thinking about.
I flicked the light on to my bathroom, I need to go for a run to clear my head. I don’t think it’ll help if I'm to be very honest with myself. My reflection stared back at me; my eyes were at their normal color. Streaks of red lines were painted across my neck; I can’t remember her dragging her nails there but I don’t mind it. It'll fade away in a few days
I can’t believe I'm still f*****g hard. I can’t go jogging like this. This is a town with the majority of its population being creatures who love to stay up at night to enjoy the rays of the moon. I have no intentions of flashing people I don’t know.
Well, then I know what I must do.
I stepped in, closing the glass door behind me. The showers went on automatically. I walked under the spray, letting the cold water wash every last trace of arousal out of my body. A cold shower at three AM, perfect. My bones are going to feel this later but who cares. I wash my hair and skin, trying to derail every thought of Alex.
After thirty minutes of ice-cold torture, I stepped out of the stall. My erection had gone down painfully, a little price to pay to achieve some peace. I toweled my body dry, switched the lights back off, and headed into my bedroom to get dressed. My phone buzzed, the screen lighting up to show the caller ID. My thoughts immediately went to Celian.
In a few strides, I was standing next to the table.
“Celian, is everything alright?”
“I’m fine. Nona got shot, she’s in a terrible condition, but we got the guy. And the kid, she’s traumatized and scarred, I mean it, there’s this big gash on her back and... and...” he sounded out of breath.
So, what I'm hearing is that everything is good. “Nona will be fine. Get her to Meredith. And take the kid there too. I think we have a healer for a reason.”
“Right, I forgot about her,” he said, sounding slightly relieved.
My eyes rolled; this kid shouldn’t have this much responsibility. But Rick is on a family break, Celian was the only one left. With him being Rick’s trainee, he was the perfect choice. “Anything else?” I asked, my voice coming out a little impatient.
“Yes. We have another case.”
“Okay, you have a good team on your hands.”
“That is true, sir. But this is a code red.” he lowered his voice to whisper, I almost didn’t hear him. I'm grateful for my enhanced hearing.
Alarms in my head went, the hair on my skin stood, and it wasn’t from the cold.
“A code red? Are you sure?”
“Yes, sir. I believe a bloodbath at the Saint Bonadieus church falls under the category of red, or am I wrong?” he said, his tone holding a hint of doubt.
I squared my jaw. A blood bath...... at a church? “What have you got?”
“Absolutely nothing sir. The perp left nothing, besides the blood of their victims-” the line shook, someone had grabbed the phone from his hand.
“He left a note. I'm going to email it to you because I can and I will. And I don’t care how busy you are sir,” she added. I chuckled, Jackie. “It’s in an unusual language, and I refuse to input it into our database.” a smart techy. She looks like a computer geek, but doesn’t sound like it and can throw a mean punch. A perfect asset to my team.
“Send me what you’ve got. I have some files to read, so I’ll just add this to the list of things that I have to do.”
She hummed. I heard some clicking sounds from her end, and then a ding from my phone.
“Thanks. I'll get back to you guys, and by the way, Jackie?”
“Yes sir.”
“What are you doing at Celian’s house?” the line went dead. My shoulders shook with laughter. I have only been gone for two days now, and they seem to be handling things pretty well. I’m sure their first code red without me will turn out okay.
Time to start my day.
I threw on some loose-fitting grey pants and a large wife beater. I'll let the wind dry my hair. I spent the next couple of hours, translating the note the killer had left and it was encrypted to the very last letter, it was a message to the alpha of Riverton. I sent the translated copy to Jackie, and then picked up the binder sitting on the desk.
I need to channel all my focus to this case, if someone is going after the alpha of Riverton, then I feel sorry for them. He is one man no one can touch.
The binder was fully detailed from the first murder to the most recent one. The killings started at the beginning of the year, it’s July now. And the killer has taken over, am I reading this right? One hundred wolves in total, from a town of four thousand. That is very impressive.
Kaiden’s police force is incompetent. Unbelievable. No wonder he needs my help.
My stomach grumbled, s**t I forgot to have breakfast. The sun has already risen; I should be expecting that omega at any moment.
I strolled out of my office and down to the kitchen, I halted when the doorbell was rung. That must be her. I can’t wait to see the woman that has been driving Kaiden insane. I thought only his mate could do that. I twisted the knob, forcing a smile to my face so I don’t scare her off.
“Hello-” I bit my tongue in utter shock. What is she doing here? I'm sure her expression mirrored mine.
“Excuse me, but isn’t this- hold up.” she pulled out a paper from her back pocket, my eyes ran from her head to her toes. She looks divine. As beautiful as the sun rising in the early hours of the day.
“I didn’t get your last name..” she said mostly to herself.
I raised a brow. “It’s Grayson.”
“f**k!”
