Prologue
Faking it with my billionaire husband
Prologue
“I’m sorry, but it's terminal. There isn't much more we can do for your mother.” I heard the doctor's words, but they were not making sense in my head. I wanted to scream or shout or something. But nothing was coming out of my mouth. I just sat there paralysed to the spot I was sitting in.
It was not real. It couldn't be. My mother was dying of cancer, and there was nothing that anyone could do about it.
Why was this happening?
The doctor had a kind face with these big, round, sympathetic eyes that made me want to burst into tears.
“Are you sure that there isn't anytime else you can try? Please? She is my mother. I can't lose her.” my words came out all choked up, and I felt sick. She handed me a box of tissues and offered me water. I shook my head but took the tissues and dabbed at my makeup-stained face. Damn tears!
“Maya, I understand this is hard for you, but there is nothing more we can do, other than make your mother as comfortable as possible.
I stood up and shook my head in denial. No. This was not happening. I refused to believe it. My mother was the only person I had left in this world, and without her, I'd have nothing and nobody.
