CHAPTER 9: THE DATE

974 Words
Ada's POVThe wedding went on as planned. My sister looks very happy. I turned around to see Uno with someone else and somehow, I felt.. nothing.   I don't know how long I stared at them, but a sad voice whispered in my ear. "Is that the owner of the broken iPad?" Yohan asked while giving me my phone and purse back.   "Yeah, that's him." I said, then I turned my eyes at Yohan. Shrugging my shoulders to push away my despair and smile widely, "Let's go." Then I pulled Yohan's arms and walked out of the church.   On our way to the venue, I can feel Yohan's eyes glancing at me. So, I answered his unspoken questions. I inhaled enough air before talking.   "We started dating when we were in college. Everything's going well until we had our internship. We spent most of his time practicing and making blueprints, going to their sites while I, on the other hand, had my internship on our campus TV."   But then we pulled over in front of the restaurant. "I'll tell you some other time the rest of that tragedy." then I smiled at Yohan.   We entered the banquet with Yohan's hand on my lower back for assistance, and there I saw my sister and my parents talking with our relatives. I grabbed Yohan's hand and walked closer to them.   "Hey, if it isn't my favorite niece." said my Uncle Drew, smiling widely.   Annoyed and jealousy flashed Kelsey's face, "Really, Uncle? I'm here too you know." then we all laughed. Kelsey continued with her speech, "Didn't I ask you not to steal my moment?" she looked at Yohan then she looked back at me again.   Only then I realized that we are holding each other's hands.   I quickly let go of his hand and almost yelled, "I did not." Then I turned to introduce Yohan to my family.   "By the way, Wynowitzs, this is Yohan, my officemate. Yohan, these are the Wynowitzs."   Yohan smiled and offered his hands for a handshake. My father is the first one to accept his hand, then my uncle, my grandfather, and lastly Marcus. A warm light hug for the ladies of the family.   My eyes are left wide open when I hear Kelsey ask sheepishly, "Is it just me, or does the air here smell as sweet as candy?" Then my father answered, "No sweetie, it smells like sugar." and they all laugh, including Yohan.   But I rebutted, "No, it smells like a burning wedding gown!" Then again, they all just laugh at my response.   The dinner party started with a speech from the newlyweds’ parents and of course the best man and the maid of honor. After the speech, there came the food, the gifts, and the dance.   The wedding band started to play music when the organizer asked the crowd to sing a song. And yes, there goes my little sister pointing at my head telling everyone that I want to sing.   Kelsey pushed me forward on the stage while everyone was clapping their hands. My mother also dragged Yohan in front shouting, "Don't forget the date! Don't forget the date!"   Now we are both standing in front of the crowd. Yohan asked if he could borrow the guitar, "Do you know Lucky?" he asked me smilingly. Oh, how I wish I could just disappear right now. "Jason Mraz? Sure." I said then he started singing.   "Do you hear me? Talking to you.. Across the water, across the deep blue ocean under the open sky, oh my baby I'm trying.." he has a voice.   My turn, "Boy I hear you, in my dreams.. I feel your whisper across the sea.. I keep you with me in my heart.. You make it easier when life gets hard.."   We finished the song smoothly and everyone was amazed by his voice. Well, count me in. He has a bloody good and sexy singing voice.   We walked down the stage, hand in hand when one from the crowd shouted "Another Wynowitz wedding next year!" I snapped and withdrew my hand while everybody clapped their hands.   Want to know who it was? It was my Uncle Drew.   It’s already past 10 p.m. when we left. I can sense the awkward feel between Yohan and me inside the car but decided to just ignore it and talk.   "I'm sorry.." we both speak the same words at the same time. We looked at each other for a couple of seconds in amazement and we both laughed.   The whole trip was filled with chatter and laughter until we reached my apartment. We got out of the car and he walked me in front of my doorstep.   I looked at him straight to his eyes and said, "Thank you for accompanying me today."   Yohan smiled, put his hands inside his pants, and looked at his shoes before looking at me. "It was fun actually. Being surrounded by fun people."   "I'm sorry you have to deal with the Wynowitzs."   He laughed loudly before responding, "Not really, I had so much fun. I became close with your Uncle Drew, and you're indeed his favorite. I'd like to accompany you again." he patted my head and he continues, "You go inside. I'll be leaving now."   I nodded my head and opened my door. "Take care. Thank you." Then I went inside my house. As I closed the door, I realized that I am still holding the pink paper tulips that Yohan gave me.   I don't know what got into me but I found myself staring at the paper flowers he gave me and I just whispered, "Thank you."
