THE USE OF YIDDISH IN THIS SERIES
The Bar Nahum family uses many Yiddish expressions in this series. They do this, not because they are Jewish, but because they work in the theater. Yiddish is the universal language of show business.
It’s totally beyond the scope of this book to teach anyone the rich, vibrant scope of Yiddish. Learn it on your own; your life will be immensely richer because of it. Even a few words peppered into your vocabulary will make you much more expressive.
One of my online reference sources has been the Yiddish Dictionary Online. Another great source, which I believe is now out of print, is The Joys of Yiddish by Leo Rosten. Find it if you can. It’s the funniest dictionary you’ll ever read.
