Riley - POV
“The Lycan Wolf realm is planning to recruit female fighters. I know you have combat skills and a black belt in karate, so you’re an excellent candidate to act as our mole among them,” Nick said, grinning. I despised that grin.
“I’m not a she-wolf. They’ll figure it out when they see me walking through the realm,” I replied. Nick sighed and rolled his eyes.
“This potion will turn you into a she-wolf, and you’ll also be able to transform into a wolf. The dose will last until a month after you report back to us,” Nick said, pushing a bottle of blue liquid towards me.
“When do I begin my mission?” I asked.
“You’ll need to move to the Lycan Wolf realm right away with a backpack of clothes. We’ve created a fake ID card that says you live in the southern regions of the Wolf realm. Remember, the Alpha of that region is named Killian. In the Wolf records, you’re an orphan,” Nick explained.
“Can I meet my family before leaving?” I asked. Nick considered my request and nodded. It made me happy, though I didn’t show my emotions in front of him.
The guards walked me out and drove me to a different location, blindfolded, so I couldn’t see the route. When the blindfold was removed, I saw my parents chained in a prison. They smiled brightly when they saw me.
“Are you okay? Did they hurt you, sweetheart?” Dad asked.
“Don’t worry about me. They’ve given me a task, and once I complete it, they’ll release you,” I replied, trying to control my emotions. My mother studied me closely.
“Can you tell me what the task is?” she asked.
“I can’t reveal anything, Mom. But trust me,” I said. She nodded and smiled.
“I have faith in you, Riley. You’ll get us out of this situation,” Mom said confidently. Dad nodded in agreement. I smiled through my tears, feeling both pain and joy at their faith in me.
“Enough, we need to get going,” the guard said coldly. I kissed my parents on the cheeks before leaving, blindfolded again. The guards led me out of the truck, my hands still handcuffed and restrained by magic.
Finally, the blindfold was removed, and I saw Nick standing there, smirking in a black leather jacket. He had a gorgeous but tyrannical appearance.
“I hope you enjoyed reuniting with your family,” Nick taunted. I scowled at him. He’d only allowed the visit as a final warning. Then he asked me to drink the potion in front of him.
“Remove the handcuffs. We need to wait for the potion to take effect before teleporting you to the Wolf realm,” Nick ordered. The guards and a witch in a black cloak began preparing the teleportation process.
I felt dizzy as they removed the handcuffs. The dull magic stored in my body flowed through my veins, and I felt my vampire magic fighting the potion. I controlled my power to let the potion work.
“My name is Fifi, and I am your wolf for the time being,” purred a voice in my head, startling me.
“So you can hear the temporary she-wolf?” the witch asked. I nodded, trying to stand on the snowy ground.
“How can I hear the wolf? I’m a vampire, and wolves despise us,” I whispered to the witch.
“Wolves don’t despise vampires; it’s the human side of the shifters that does. What you’re hearing is the wolf who agreed to work with us. In exchange, you’ll share your power. That’s Fifi’s deal,” the witch explained.
“Wow, this is incredible,” I whispered. The witch gave me an amused look with her onyx eyes, partially visible behind her mask.
“Keep moving. We need to teleport you without alerting the Lycan Wolf realm’s guards,” the witch said, leading me to a magical circle. I followed with my backpack. Everyone else had disappeared, presumably on their own tasks.
The portal sucked my body in, and I felt nauseous as it spat me out. I landed hard on the ground and groaned. Teleportation was rough.
The snowy weather vanished, replaced by sunshine and a clear sky. As a hybrid, I could walk in the sun, unlike my mother, who needed a blue topaz pendant to survive outside. I dusted myself off and slung my backpack over my shoulder.
“Hey, what’s your name?” a deep voice called out. I turn to see a handsome man standing and staring at me.My heart skipped a beat. I quickly regain myself.
“Riley Laurier. I’m from the southern region, here to take the military entrance exam,” I replied. The man gave me a suspicious look, but I kept my face straight and didn’t sweat under his gaze. His intense emerald eyes reminded me of someone I’d seen before.
