I've heard stories of how ruthless he is but he's never been that way to me. He's always shielded me from the rough part of his life and so all the rumours I've heard never mattered.
As long as he treats me well.
As long as he loves me and protects me as his own.
As long as he doesn't hurt me.
Then it all doesn't matter.
But now that I know it was all a scam, I had to wake up to the reality of the monster he really is. I can't help but think of the things he is going to do to me if I don't get any help tonight.
I was taken into a dark, quiet space, and walking further inside where a lantern was lit which only illuminated a small part of the room just enough for me to see his shadow. He was sitting on a chair in the middle of the room and I don't let them drag me to him. I walk on my own and just when I arrive at his front, someone kicks my legs from under me and I fall on my knees in front of him.
I huff, biting my lips as the pain on my knees intensifies.
"I finally get to see the real you." I chuckle as I raise my head to look at him and the next thing I knew was a flash in my vision as he hit me across my face. Hard.
My head jerks to the side, the stinging pain on my cheek forcing a groan out of me. The metallic taste of blood on my lips didn't bother me. I stare up at him and grinned, like the maniac that I am.
He leans closer to my face and I remember If this were a few days ago when I knew nothing, I'd have felt a series of butterflies in my tummy for being so close to him but now, what remains in my belly is disgust.
And fear.
But I would never show an emotion like that on my face.
He grabs my hair and pulls it tight as he leaned even closer to my face. "When did you find out?"
I try to ignore the pain. "Find out what? How you've been fu-cking my sister or how you want me dead?"
"Well I'm glad you now know I want you dead. You know how fu-cking disgusting it is to pretend to love you when all I want is to pull out your heart?"
Now I couldn't smile. Even if that was the plan. A frown covers my face instead.
This amount of hate and blood lust, where was it coming from?
"Is this how you truly feel about me?"
"Do I have to prove it to you?" He smirks and finally releases me from the pain of grabbing my hair. "You should've known better than to call off the wedding like that. You made me look bad you know."
"Then you should've hidden better." I fired back.
He laughs at that and I flinched when he brought his hand to grab a part of my hair and play with it the way he usually does. "Next month, there will be another wedding." He informs me. "You'll have no chance to run then."
"Unless you're willing to marry a corpse, the wedding will only happen over my dead body."
His eyes held a smile and he leans in close once again until his lips were rubbing against my ear. "I don't mind." He whispers and pulls away.
"I wouldn't mind killing you myself either."
"Not before I do."
"Like you have a chance." I chuckled, shrugging off the hand of one of his men holding me down then I met his eyes, In a challenge "I need you to watch just how I'm going to destroy you and f**k up your whole life."
Amusement enters his eyes and he leans close again and whispers. "Then make sure you do it slowly. So it's fun. And also, make sure you don't chicken out and beg on your knees and with your p**** because now, the sweet life you've known is gone. I'll bring to your doorstep something so hellish you will wish for death and not get it."
My heart clenchs in pain at his words but the defiance in my eyes only grew and the surge of anger of how foolish and blind I had been to not see he was hiding a hatred as deep as this for me consumed me.
One thing I know for sure is that he will pay. He must!
"Now, since you've promised me this much fun, I shall spare you." He suddenly brings out a deadly looking whip and threw it to the side.
My eyes narrowed deeply as I stare at it. Was he planning to use that on me?
The amount of disbelief that crossed my eyes was more than the time I found out he had something with my sister.
Was this the monster everyone talked about? The one I refused to believe him to be?
He was finally showing me himself and it scares me so much that I almost married a psychopath monster because this was what he is.
There was a sudden commotion outside and my lips curl as I stare at Ryan. I got to my feet immediately before Dad burst in, looking angry with his veins popping.
"What do you think you're doing Ryan Waylon?!"
"Father." Ryan stood, surprise evident in his eyes as he greeted.
"Ariel?" came Dad's voice, along with the guards he brought with him. Or rather, reinforcement. They were pouring in one after the other.
"Dad!" I ran towards him and hugged him but I didn't cry and I didn't hide behind him. It was a sign of weakness which Dad wouldn't be pleased with.
Dad noticed the red on my cheeks from where I was slapped and anger clouded his eyes as he stepped forward and the next thing I knew, Ryan's lips were bleeding from Dad's punch.
"What did you do to my daughter?" Dad's cold and dangerous voice never cease to make me shiver. If it were anyone else, their hearts could've stopped beating once they heard his voice.
"It was just a small reunion between Ariel and I. You see, I needed to know the problem to fix it which is why I invited her here to talk."
"To talk? In a place like this?" Father steps closer to him and I can't see their faces but I could feel the brewing tension between them. "I really hope you didn't do more than I think you did."
"Absolutely." Ryan smiles and I scoffed at him, linking my arms with Dad's.
"I'll take it from here then." Dad didn't bother to say a goodbye as we left.
Once we were in the car, it went quiet.
This was the first time we were meeting after canceling my wedding. I wonder what he thought of me now or if he feels any resentment towards me.
"I'm sorry, Dad." I uttered but he just kept staring out of the window without looking at me.
It continued to be that way until we arrived home. Mom rushed out to meet us and I expected her to yell at me or maybe hit me lightly but she hugged me first, crying.
"My poor baby,"
"Mom!." I hadn't cried ever since. Infact I refused to but now, I couldn't hold back anymore. The tears poured out like a river and I saw Dad leave us to go inside.
"It's okay." Mom patted my back. "I know just how you feel. I know how awful that feeling of betrayal is that's why we don't blame you. You didn't have to run from us."
"Thanks Mom." I hugged her tighter and later, we linked our arms as she led me inside.
A maid was waiting for us in the living room. She bowed her head a bit as she said. "The master wants you."
I swallowed hard and glanced at Mom who threw me a reassuring look.
Honestly, I'd have preferred Dad yelling at me after what I did than him being as silent and indifferent for as long as he has been.
It means nothing good.
I followed the maid upstairs to my father's study and I'm surprised to meet my sister in there.
She was kneeling, shaking with sweat running down her face and body. It looked as if she had been like this for a long while.
"Avery..." I whispered. A worried look crossed my eyes but even as I stare at her, it was awkward. It was almost as if I was looking at a stranger.
"Have a seat Ariel" Dad told me sternly and I hesitated a bit, glancing back at Avery who didn't dare to meet my eyes.
"Explain everything that happened." Dad ordered the moment I finished taking a seat in front of him.
"It's my fault." I breathed.
"I didn't ask whose fault. Tell me everything. Is your sister Avery really sleeping with your fiancee?"
"He's not my fiancee anymore. I'm not going to get married to him."
"Then you must have a good reason."
"Which I do not wish to say."
All of a sudden, it was as quiet as a graveyard. I know I was only making this worse but knowing Dad's wrath, Avery would really be having it if I told him the whole truth.
He threw a newspaper at my face and when I took it, of course there was the headlines I was talking about.
Golden's heiress runs away at wedding.
Golden's heiress accuses sister of sleeping with her fiancee?
The Golden sisters head over heels for thesame man.
And so many more provoking Titles.
It's worse than I expected.
"I'm sorry." I whispered.
"I didn't ask for your apology Ari. I need to know the problem to fix it and if you refuse to say when I ask again--"
"She didn't lie!" Avery Interrupted from where she was kneeling and I looked at her with wide eyes.
"It's true." She whispered. "I was sleeping with him even though I knew it was wrong. I feel in love with him Dad..."
"And you don't feel any shame?" Dad's eyes narrowed deeply at her and she lowered her head which I was grateful for.
"I do. And I want to apologize to sister properly. I shouldn't have been such a b***h I'm sorry."
Dad glances at me but I avoid his eyes and stare at the wall instead. Perhaps it was more interesting than the drama unfolding. I don't know whether to feel angry or not at this point.
What was she trying to do?
Does she really feel sorry?
Or am I just the one overthinking this as one of the schemes girls pull?
Whichever it was, I knew I wouldn't be able to see Avery in thesame light ever again. She hurt me bad and I'm not sure I can forgive her.
"Well, thank you for helping me recognize trash." I finally said to her and heard Dad begin to tap his fingers on the table in a slow rhyme.
I met his eyes and the storm I saw immediately made me swallow hard.
None of us spoke and the silence went on like that as we were both waiting for Dad to come to a decision.
He looks at me and the iciness in his gaze has my heart dropping. "Ryan will apologize to you and the wedding will be scheduled for another day."
My eyes as well as my mouth, slowly began to open in complete disbelief. "No!" I yelled. "I will not marry that monster!"
"You were crazily in love with him up until yesterday."
"Until I found out he is trash. I don't feel anything for him anymore and you're NOT going to force me into a marriage with him."
Most of the time, being as docile as my sister gets me nowhere. Dad loves to be challenged but I'm afraid, this one isn't something he would enjoy.
His eyes narrowed. "I wasn't giving you a choice."
"D-d-dad--"
"Both of you can leave."
I saw his eyes. He was dead serious about this marriage with no room for talks.
I scoffed and exited the room angrily with one sentence going through my mind.
What am I going to do now?
"Ari..." Avery calls after me but I ignore her until we reach the living room.
"We need to talk!"
"I don't have anything to say to you."
"I know you don't, but I do."
I scoffed and folded my arms, giving her a look of disbelief. "What? You want to fake apologize more or you want to rub it in my face?"
She opened her mouth to speak but Mom appeared.
"Girls, keep it down. I advise you get yourselves in a room and sort your problems out."
"We'll do just that." Avery starts to drag me with her but I took my hands out of her grasp and follow her into a room to well, hear out whatever she had to say.
I expected all kinds of things from her when the door was closed but I didn't expect the silence that passed with just us staring at each other.
I sighed in frustration and sat my ass on the bed, running my fingers through my hair.
"Dad forcing you to marry him is not for the company. You know how much he loves us." She started and I shoot up a brow.
"What else if not the company? I hear we are in a kind of financial crisis after the last bid and the marriage will bring in just enough fund to settle our debt."
"What do you think would happen if we don't get it?"
"Thanks to you we will lose the company and become poor."
I wasn't about to admit the marriage going all wrong was my fault.
"You think Dad cares about the company more than your happiness?"
My brows pulled together and I could see there was some serious s**t going on. What does Avery seem to know that I don't?
"Tell me what's going on then."
"I don't know if I should."
"As long as it concerns this family."
She sighed and sat with me, deep worry lines appearing on her forehead. “I know how much you hate me right now but you have to listen to me. Dad is in some serious shit.”
