Chapter 6 Greene only got as far as the edge of Las Vegas. He stopped at the first station he reached to gas up the Volvo. At that point, he still thought he’d get at least part of the way back to the LA basin before he stopped for the night. That was before a half-mile or so farther down the road, when he noticed a homey, old-fashioned-looking motel with a vacancy sign. He made a snap decision and swung into the lot. Jest was probably right. It would be stupid to drive now, tired and with too many questions and uncertainties buzzing around in his mind.
