Chapter 27

Anna’s POV

I am now 22 weeks pregnant. The baby is getting big. The last ultrasound says he is 8 pounds already, and I still have about a month to go. Dr Robert said I will probably deliver early because I am from an Alpha bloodline. Even though Blake’s dad took over as Alpha of Dark Hollow, his blood is still that of a Beta. I have been keeping myself busy since leaving the hospital. I have been doing light training with Aunt Opal. We have been working on building up my endurance and some light weight training. I have completed my competency test and received my high school diploma. I have been helping Tara get the baby's room ready. I also volunteer at the elementary school. Crystal Lake is the vision my dad had for Dark Hollow. It’s unfortunate that people are so greedy that they take from others, then don’t even know what to do with what they took. I officially became part of Crystal Lake about a month ago. We was not sure if it would affect the baby, if done before 16 weeks.

Lucia met her mate a few days ago, and they have been taking it slow. She is about a week behind me so we are going shopping to get stuff for the baby today. Tara wants more clothes and Trevor insists that Lucia put together a room for the baby at his house. She said she could just use the stuff she already has, but he wants a room ready to go, so she doesn’t have to travel or worry that something is at her house and not his. She has also set up a small space for Camilla at her house. They laugh about having a ready-made family. Since they have discussed their issues, things have been much better for them. Their initial meeting was not one to share, but that was the past. They have also had sessions with Dr Connie to help move forward with everything, even Trevor dealing with his brother’s death. We are all meeting at the garage to go shopping at the mall in town. There is me, Lucia, Tessa, Aunt Opal and Tara; we have about six warriors with us, a total of three vehicles.

We go to a couple of baby stores. Tara had named her baby Lawrence and Lucia named her baby after her Dad, Luca. The baby’s room at her house is blue but the room at Trevor’s house is gray. They also made a room for Camilla in pink. Tara has made Lawrence’s room a woods theme, so there are browns and greens as the color scheme. Lucia picks up stuff for the baby and Camilla. She just needs to accept Trevor because she is Camilla’s mom already. She would never leave that baby. We stop at a few more stores, then get pampered with a manicure and pedicure. We eat lunch then head home.

It is wintertime now, and we have not gotten our first snow for the area yet. The air is cold. Luckily, as werewolves, our body temperature is higher. Lucia and I tend to go from hot to cold with the pregnancy too. We have been having the driver adjust the air from heat to AC during the hour drive. As we are driving back to the pack, we come across a car blocking the road. We don’t see anyone around, just a smoking car with the hood up. We are about 5 miles from the pack, just outside the territory.

“Something is not right” Aunt Opal says

Both she and Tessa pull out their phones to call their mates. We are just outside the range for mindlinking. I see Lucia doing the same and talking to Trevor. As they are talking, we see people come out of the woods and surround all three vehicles. We couldn’t recognize a scent on them at first, but now the putrid stench of rogue permeates the are as they get closer. A man walks in front of our vehicle

“We only want Lucia. Give her to me and no one gets hurt”

“Why do you want her?” the warrior driving us yells out

“She is carrying precious cargo and our Alpha wants his baby” he says

Lucia gasps and starts to cry

“How did he know I was here? How did he know about the baby?” she starts to cry

“You have two minutes to give her to me or we will attack and take her. No reason you all get hurt for her” the man says

He says that, and then he is attacked by a wolf. The four standing around the car drop to their knees. The others surrounding the other vehicles are attacked by other wolves. The warriors in the car behind us get out to help take down the rogues. The car in front of us rams the abandoned car in the road and makes a path for us to get to the gates. Our driver takes us straight to the packhouse. They make sure we get inside and are secured before going back out to help the others. The pack was put on lockdown. Uncle Derrick did not know how many there were of them or what their intentions were at the time. So he locked the pack down for safety. We all go to the safe room in the packhouse. About an hour later, the door is opened by Thane with Uncle Derrick, Dr Robert and Trevor all behind him.

We find out that Alpha Clarence and Blake were told that Lucia was here, and she was pregnant. They sent rogues to bring her back to Dark Hollow. There was a total of twenty rogues and four pack members. We captured three of the pack members and two of the rogues, the rest were killed during the fight. The warriors have brought the survivors to the cells for interrogation. Dr Robert wants Lucia and I taken to the hospital to make sure the babies are alright with all the stress. I guess my baby wants to be part of the drama because as we were coming out of the safe room, my water broke.
